The Forming of the Body of Christ. The Whole Counsel of God.
The Whole Counsel of God - (Ephesians)
While Paul was on his way back to Jerusalem he sent for the elders of the ekklesia in Ephesus because he was nearby on the coast. He told them that bonds may await him but he desires to see and pray with them before he sails once more.
`They all wept freely, and fell on Paul`s neck and kissed him, sorrowing most of all for the words he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.` (Acts 20: 37 & 38)
He told them `I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.` (Acts 20: 27)
Paul had taught his disciples -
- That Jesus is both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2: 36)
- That Israel was still in God`s purposes and they would one day rule the nations. (Old Testament scriptures)
- That this new ekklesia was the Body of Christ, another purpose of God.
`...to create in Himself one new man from the two, (Jew & Gentile), thus making peace.` (Eph. 2: 15)
- That Jesus is the Head of this ekklesia.
`(God the Father) seated Him (Jesus) at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
And put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be Head over all things to the Ekklesia.` (Eph. 1: 20 - 23)
- That Jesus would come for the mature Body of Christ and catch them away. (1 Thess. 4: 14 - 17)
- That the Body of Christ would rule with Christ in the third heaven.
`God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made to sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.` (Eph. 2: 4 - 6)
