The Forming of the Body of Christ. Rome.

Practical Advice - (1 Timothy & Titus)

The Apostle Paul is coming towards the end of his ministry and he desires to pass on to the younger men practical advice for ministering among believers and for holding fast to sound doctrine.

Timothy was like a son to the aging Paul. Thus he entrusts Timothy to the oversight of believers at Ephesus and Titus to Cyprus. Guidelines are given as to the conduct of those whom would be given responsibility among the believers.

`Remind them (believers) to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing humility to all men.` (Titus 3: 1 & 2)

Paul is re-arrested and taken to Rome. (AD 66)

There he writes to his `son in the Lord` his final words. He is concerned that Timothy would fight the good fight of faith and pass on what he has been taught to others who will then also make disciples.

`And these things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach other also.` (2 Tim. 2: 2)

The Early Believers to the Present Day.

Paul is executed in AD 67. Three years later, AD 70, was destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. This caused many Jews and believers to be persecuted and thus they spread throughout the region and beyond. Apostasy set in its first form of legalism. From there other errors and heresies developed -over many centuries.

-         Bishops instead of apostles.-

-         Division of Priests and Laity.

-         Connection to the State.

-         Tradition instead of the Holy Spirit.

-         Sprinkling of infants.

-         Indulgences.

Finally the great truths, one at a time, came to be received. Thus over many centuries the whole counsel of God was clarified across the Body of Christ. Each truth would require a firm standing against the heresies. Many died as martyrs, yet each truth was steadily received by more and more believers.

Then in our day we have the full truth of Christ, His character and His purposes for -

- the Body of Christ, for Israel and for the Nations. (Eph. 4: 13, 1 Cor. 10: 32)

We have the distinctive truth of their different inheritances, known as

-         the eternal purpose of God. (Eph. 1: 9 & 10,  3: 11)

The church is so different today, the church back then was a body of believers who were in Christ. A lot has changed since that time. Today people think that the local church building is key to being a Christian. But the alarming thing about modern church is that just because you go to church each Sunday doesn’t make you a Christian. Just like when I go to the garage doesn’t make me a car!

Apostasy got off to a very early start, its gone from being a body of believers in Christ, of which were familiar with the foundational truths, that are to be found in the 7 Mysteries, and graduating from the milk to the meat. Today  very little of these truths and mysteries are mentioned let alone talked of or preached even. A very sad thing indeed.

We have the distinctive truth of their different inheritances, known as

-         the eternal purpose of God. (Eph. 1: 9 & 10,  3: 11)

having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 that in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

In theology, one meaning of the term dispensation is as a distinctive arrangement or period in history that forms the framework through which God relates to mankind.  Wikipedia

essentially that means God relates to man differently through different time periods- God's truth is not altered but his way of dealing with man, is different

(As to Paul`s times people have different ones and I only chose that one.)

Now as to man`s organisation, (what people call the church) we do NOT measure the Lord`s success of building His Body by `bottoms on seats.` The Lord Jesus said that He would build His ekklesia and bring it to maturity. (Eph. 4: 11 - 16)

We are joined in a spiritual organism which comprises of millions all over the world and across the centuries. A public meeting does NOT comprise the Body of Christ. Some who go to a public meeting maybe, and there are many other who do not fellowship that way anymore.

We must believe the Head of the Body not only knows what He is doing but is well able to bring His Body to completion. Then of course the Lord will be dealing with Israel and the nations and countless souls will turn to Him in the trib.

God has big purposes.

and that, seems to be missing in mainstream church. hence the 'emptiness'

this is something i have only really 'discovered' i do remember on rare occasion Paul's epistle and the parts of the body being preached in church, but it was lost on me, if it was correctly preached, because i had no firm foundation only being  confirmed was necessary to be classed as fully Christian in that i can take the holy communion, no foundational truths that i ever recall
