Third Stage of Holy Marital Union: Jerusalem – A Covenant of Government
God’s first established marital relationship was personal, with individuals. His second was familial (soulish), with the clans and tribes of one nation. His third was international: with the nations of the world.
Nations interact by means of their governments, which governments are centered in their capital cities. So God chose and developed one city, Jerusalem, to become the capital of His people Israel, and He entered into a marital relationship with it:
Ezekiel 16:3 … “Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem: ‘Your origin and your birth are of the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. 4 And as for your birth, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling. 5 No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you; but you were cast out upon the open field, for you were loathed on the day that you were born. 6 And when I passed by you, and saw you weltering in your blood, I said to you in your blood, “Live!” … 7 I made you thrive like the sprout of the field. And you grew up and became magnified… 8 When I passed by you again and looked upon you, behold, you were at the age for love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness. And I swore my troth to you and entered into a covenant with you,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘and you became mine. … 14 Your fame went out among the nations… 15 But you trusted in your own beauty, played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by; it became his. … 26 …harlotry with the Egyptians… 28 …with the Assyrians… 28 …[even] as far as the Chaldeans… 31… Yet you were not like a harlot, because you scorned payment; 32 [But were like] the wife that commits adultery, who takes strangers instead of her husband! … 38 So I will judge you as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give you blood of fury and jealousy. … 60 Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish unto you an everlasting covenant. … 62 Yea I will establish my covenant with you. Then you shall know that I am the LORD.’”
Jerusalem was the city of “the throne of YHWH.” 1 Chr. 29:23 Upon that throne sat the kings of the House of David, who was the progenitor of Yeshua: YHWH Incarnate. During the Millennium, He will become “King of Kings” (Rev. 19:16), and reign over all the nations of the earth from out of Jerusalem:
Psalm 2:5 [The LORD] shall speak unto them [the nations] in His wrath… 6 “Yet have I anointed My King upon My holy mountain of Zion.” 7 … “The LORD has said to me, ‘You are My Son: today I have brought You forth. 8 … I will make nations Your inheritance, Ends-of-Earth your possession.’”
Isaiah 24:23 … For the LORD of Hosts will reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem…
