That would probably be more eye-for-an eye old testament justice.
I feel that we do not have the right to take a life, even of a murderer, only God has the right to take a life. Self defence and war excluded
"we", as individuals, do not have that right... in that you are correct.
where you are wrong is that "we", as a society, have the GOD GIVEN RESPONSIBILITY to do just that.
But what if "we" take the wrong life?
if "we" take the wrong life, we are not accountable for that person's death. if the person is executed because of false testimony, then the person who bore false witness (committed perjury) is held accountable before God. "we" are not accountable because "we" are carrying out the sentence that God commands to be carried out.
but if "we" do away with the death penalty because of the fear that some may be wrongfully executed, then "we" are accountable to God for every life that an un-executed murderer takes in the future.
Can't "we" just leave him in jail?
