As someone not born Christian, my only view on this topic is directly related to Jesus words: Mat 3:15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be this way for now, for this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then John let him. If Jesus felt that it was necessary for Him (Jesus) to be baptised, I don't see why following his footsteps could be wrong. Fulfilling righteousness is never bad. God bless.
