  1. I don't know if we are "supposed to" hear more from the enemy (or our own flesh) than from the Holy Spirit, but I sure do! When I first got saved, I heard from the Holy Spirit all the time, every day. Literally. But now, it's very few and far between, and the voice of the enemy is relentless.
  2. How does a person handle a bank teller who is openly rude, and does not post your deposits (perhaps she is pocketing them?). I bank at a bank close to my job, so when I get my paycheck, I go straight there to cash it and deposit some money. There's a teller there who is always openly rude to me. She is an elderly lady who has just somehow taken a dislike to me, no matter how nice I am to her. I don't keep much money in my checking account, except to pay for purchases online, or subscriptions online. I deposit money in my account to cover these things. So a couple of months ago, I needed to order something online. I deposited the money in my account on Friday, so I could order it over the weekend. Well, I checked my account online over the weekend, and it was not posted. After calling the main office, I found out that the teller had supposedly given me too much money when she cashed my check, and so, without telling me, she took the money out of my account to cover her mistake. I felt that she should have called me and I would have brought the money back in cash, because I needed that money in my account to cover my online purchase I needed to make. I was very upset with how this was handled, because in the past, I have had a LOT of money embezzled out of my account at another bank, so I am naturally very suspicious of anything weird going on in my account without my knowledge. I reported this anonymously at the main office, so that the lady would not get in trouble herself, but that hopefully everyone would be made aware that this was not the thing to do in the case that they gave too much money back when someone cashed a check-they should call the person instead. Ok, fast forward to this last Friday. I deposited money in my account, got the reciept, and checked my balance over the weekend.....and again, the money is not posted! I deposited it early Friday morning as soon as the bank opened, so yes, it should definantly be posted that day. I feel like this woman is possibly pocketing my money or something! How can I handle this in a Christian manner? I don't want to go in there and fly off the handle at her....it could have been a simple mistake, but I don't see how it could be, because I have my receipt right here saying it was deposited. I have the right carbon copy in front of me..... How would Jesus handle this problem? I think this woman is really "messing with me"..... I hope I get an answer from someone tonight because I plan on going down to the bank to show them my check in the morning, and that teller will probably be working.
  3. Actually, I talked to others yesterday who didn't get a write-up either. Only a select few did. So far, no other news to report about what happened. Today is my last day-taking my vacation next week, so I'll be off for 9 days. Badly needed!
  4. No, I did not talk to her before I filed the complaint.....I probably should have, but I was so incredibly mad that I knew if I went straight to the "problem", I might say something that I'd regret. She knows it's me, because the yesterday she asked me if I had found the number to file a complaint. She had heard that I was looking for it.....so she will know it's me. Today, the other manager I had told came and told me that the assistant store director came to him and told him about the complaint...obviously they had just gotten it in. He said "Yes, I know about it...".....the assistant store director said..."Is it valid?" and he said "Yes, it is..." So it looks like tomorrow is the day that everything will hit the fan. Really dreading it. Oh, and I talked to yet another girl who did NOT get written up for missing the meeting.
  5. I really appreciate everyone's replies, but the topic was just meant to ask whether I did the Christian thing by reporting that the Christian manager showed favoritism by writing me up, but not the other people who also missed the meeting. It was not meant to downgrade her or my workplace.....yes, the company is very strict on attendance, but that's beside the point. All I want to know is if I behaved in a Christian way, since Paul said that we are not to take another Christian to court......... I don't want anyone at work to "run over me", but I do want to handle situations like this in a Christian manner. I want to be treated fairly, like I treat other people myself....at least I try very hard to!
  6. I adore this job, other than the VERY strict rules, especially about attendance. Absolutely NO room for being sick, leaving early because of sickness, etc. One girl got written up because she had to go to the ER for an asthma attack. If you call in because you're broke down on the freeway, they say..."oh, it's Ok-we'll see you as soon as you get here", yet they are taking POINTS and will write you up, believe me. My manager that wrote me up obviously knows that I am the one who called that complaint number, because she called me over to her today and said "I heard that you were looking for that number to call...did you get it?" I'm not sure if they have done the report yet though. I don't want her to get in trouble, I only want to be treated fairly. My other manager that I had discussed this with said that any kind of complaints like these are used as a "teaching tool", meaning that she would not get in trouble at all, but this will be used to teach her to handle situations more fairly in the future. No job is "secure" these days, even if you own your own business. I cannot imagine ever finding a job that I would be paid the money I'm paid, and get the benefits I have with this job either. It's a wonderful company to work for, even though it's so strict.
  7. Yes, this is true-He always does take care of us, one way or the other. I was at work a couple of days ago, and it was slow, and I felt God's presence all around me. And He said...."Do you trust Me to take care of you?".......... So there is no telling what could happen next!
  8. Well, I have no training-it's just a cashier job for a huge corperation, but I've been there a long time and the benefits are GREAT-it's the main reason I'm there. So yes, I do want to keep the job because of the benefits. Yes, they have a 3 strike policy....they said that if I am late, don't show up for work, have to leave early for an emergency, etc. in the next year, I'd be either written up again, or fired. Can't remember if it was 2 or 3 strikes. It's incredibly strict there-like a Nazi camp!!!
  9. Hello, and thanks for all the great replies! Actually, my boat has been rocked in that job ever since I started, and I'm just barely hanging on by the lifeboat! lol All I was worried about was if I did the CHRISTIAN thing by complaining about getting a write-up when the others didn't. No one else has mentioned a write-up, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one who even got one. IDK. I just kept thinking about how we're not supposed to take a Christian to court-that's all I kept thinking about. I'm not sure if the report has gone through yet, and the manager I reported was not there today. So I'm just waiting for the mess to hit the fan when the report comes in. Does anyone have any idea how this stuff works? I mean-will they send the complaint straight to her, or straight to the store director, or what? I've never reported anyone before, so I have no idea how it works at all. I reported it anonymously, so there's a chance that IF she wrote up a few others besides me, then she may not know it was even me who reported her....but I kinda doubt it. My work is definantly on a firing spree, so I'll be doing a lot of praying about this.
  10. I work for a large company, and today I got written up because I missed a meeting that I honestly did not know about-I missed the posted sign about it, and we are normally "reminded" about meetings, but this time we weren't. I was told that only a very small amount of people even showed up for the meeting, because no one even knew about it. As I was being reprimended, I asked if everyone who did not come to the meeting would get a write-up, and was told that "Yes-everyone who did not go to the meeting would be written up. Anyway, my manager who wrote me up is a Christian. Well, I signed my write up sheet and took the severe scolding and went on back to my station and tried to not let it ruin my day...... After I clocked out, I ran into another coworker who I had heard missed the meeting also. I asked her if she had already gotten her write-up and she said...."No....They said they were going to write me up, but decided not to instead-oops! I guess I shouldn't have told you that, huh?" Well, I was HOT!! I was not upset because I got the write up. I should have paid more attention to the posted notes, so I know that I deserve the write up. But I was mad because it looks like only a select FEW (me!) got written up, and others were let off the hook. I have no idea who else did or didn't get a write up besides me. All I know is that I got one and another person who also didn't go to the meeting did NOT get one. Well, I started crying I was so mad and worried about my job in this economy. I asked another manager for the number to a company that handles complaints in the workplace, and told him the situation. I told him that I felt like I was being discriminated against, and that if I got a write-up, then everyone else who missed the meeting should have too, or they should tear mine up.....because I cannot stand anyone to be discriminated against-not just me, but anyone! So my manager gave me the number and I called and left a complaint against my Christian manager. I just wanted to be treated fairly.....but now I'm stressing over that Bible verse that says not to drag a fellow Christian into court! Does this qualify as the same situation? Should I have just let her treat me unfairly like that, compared to others who did not go to the meeting?
  11. Ok, never mind-I found it. It's because the name Emmanuel is a sort of title, or description, rather than an actual name. Similar to Isaiah 9:6, where the coming Messiah is named Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
  12. This confuses me. Why does it say, in verse 23, that a virgin will have a child named Emmanuel, which means "God with us", and then in verse 25, He was named Jesus instead? It's one of the several reasons that my Hebrew friend refuses to accept Jesus as the Messiah, and I had no idea what to tell him.
  13. Thank you for the replies, but I'm looking for an actual book. My computer is a desktop, and look at the Strong's online, but I want an actual book, for when I'm in bed reading my Bible. Yeah, a laptop would be nice, but I don't have one right now.
  14. I'm looking for a Strong's Concordance that has the numbers in it, such as 3091 for Joshua. I have a Nelson's New Compact Strong's Concordance, but it just tells the verse for each word, but does not list a number. I've looked online, but have not been able to find one that will let me view the inside to see if it is what I want to buy. Can anyone recommend a Strong's exhaustive that has the numbers in it, preferably with a dictionary that shows what they mean too? Thanks!
  15. So you are saying that you don't believe God is His name or do you? Sorry, I'm confused. God is His title, not His name. His name is YHWH...... Yahweh, as far as we know. There are a couple of places in the Bible that calls Him Yah.
  16. lol...I have no idea what "Godspeed" means either-and I've wondered too!
  17. I've been studying this lately, and someone told me basically that the meaning of "to take in vain" means to mock, to belittle, to disreguard the importance of, or to make unworthy or make untrue.....they were referring to taking the Lord's name in vain by not saying it correctly....as in saying "God" instead of "Yahweh", or "Jesus" instead of Yeshua or the other pronunciations. Personally, I think that it does take His name in vain when people say "OMG" or other exclamations that use His name. I don't say any of it-I say "Oh my goodness!" lol As far as sneezing, to be on the safe side, I'd rather say "May God bless you!" rather than just "God bless you" because it just sounds less...demanding I guess the word is I'm trying to think of. Kind of like how I think Paul ended some of his letters by saying something like "May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ keep you safe" instead of just saying something flippant like "God'll keep ya safe!" It sounds disrespectful I think. Just my opinion though-it may be Ok.
  18. Thanks for the replies! I'll have to look for it, but one part in that site said something about how, since God's name is YAweh, with a YA, then the correct spelling/pronunciation of His SON'S name would not be Yeshua, with a YE....it would have the YA extension in it also, which would make Yashua or the Yahushua sound more right. Everyone here is much more knowlegable about this stuff than I am, but I do want to learn about it-things like this fascinate me. I would not want to be guilty of "changing" anything that God said was Truth, for a doctrine of man. I am going to save up and buy one of the original 1611 KJV Bibles where it has "Yahweh" instead of "God" and "Iesus" instead of Jesus. That would be interesting to read!
  19. I found this site and thought it was very interesting, but it's a little over my head. In this article, it talks about names of God and Jesus.... *edit links* And then in this article it talks about how Jesus' name was prophesied in Zechariah as the Branch of Joshua, meaning that His name is really JOSHUA, not Jesus! *edit links* There are several more good articles on the home page of that site.....but I'm pretty confused now about it all. I mean-are we taking the name of Jesus in vain by calling Him Jesus? Should we say "Yahweh" instead of God? What about saying "Abba"...is that still Ok? And how do you pronounce THAT? I've heard it two different ways! Well, when I tried to study that site, it was confusing to me....but I am now very confused about what it said when it talked about Jesus' name......it said that the name of our Messiah is actually Yahushua, which is from the name Joshua, NOT Jesus. It was saying that saying "Yashua, Yeshua, etc. are wrong, and that Yahushua is the correct way. I was thinking that the Greek version calls Jesus "IESous", so what is wrong with saying "Yay-soos?" then? But it said that was wrong too, because something about how Yahweh is from Hebrew, so we should say the name of Jesus in Hebrew too. They were implying that to say anything other than the Hebrew wording of Jesus is to take His name in vain. But if that is the case, then they could say that we are all taking God's name in vain, because no one even KNOWS God's name....we have just rendered it Yahweh from the letters YHWH anyway, so no one knows His true name! Does all of this even matter? Do you think it is wrong to render our English words to Jesus' real name? Or here's a scary thought-maybe many of our prayers are not being answered because we have not said His name right! Yeah, I know-that's a little paranoid....lol What do YOU say when you pray? Do you say God, Yahweh, Jehova, Elohim, Yeshua, Yashua, Jesus, etc. etc. etc.??
  20. The link provided is just strectching the plain scriptures. agreed! Anytime you see Yeshua spelled with a "Yah" at the front of it (Yahshua, Yahushua, etc) then you can ignore it. That spelling comes from a "movement" called Ephraimites, 2 House, 2 Stick, whatever.... I'm going to start a new thread about this, so we don't get too off topic here.
  21. Why not start with the Word? Seems like the best solution to me Well the word tells me that I don't have to keep the feast days, but I would like to know more, maybe I am missing something? I want to keep open mind I'm right there with you. I'm thinking that if we don't lie, steal, covet, commit adultery, etc...then doesn't that mean we are "keeping the Law?" anyway? So why not keep the Sabbath while we're at it? I think the whole key lies in the book of Acts, which is the EARLY church that the disciples started, according to how Jesus told them to do it. We all know that we are not saved by keeping the Law....but we do it anyway, out of obedience and love to God, right? And this is something to think about too.....the book of Galations talks on and on about not keeping the Law, right? Luke wrote Acts, didn't he? And who were the Galation people? Were they converted Jews? No, they weren't. They were pagans from what I understand-or at least Gentiles.....so they never kept the Law to begin with! So how could they talk about "going back to the Law" if they never kept it to begin with? It sounds like they were talking about their FORMER practices, not the Law of Moses at all. And what about the verses that says how we are to "keep God's commandments?" I found a website that talks about this whole thing about the Law, the Feasts, etc....it's very good! I'm directing you to the link that talks about Galations and examines every verse that talks about how we ARE supposed to keep the Law. If you go down to the bottom of the page, you can get to the home page, where there are a lot more great articles. I just found this site and have not read much, but it looks great and makes a lot of sense. Keeping the Law in Galations
  22. Yes, I know what it means to be saved.....my whole question was why was the Apostle's Creed "done away with" basically, and most Christian churches use the Nicene Creed? It was just a question....not a debate on salvation.
  23. Ever since I learned about the different Christian creeds, I've wondered why Christians don't go by the Apostle's Creed,(which was the earliest creed....supposedly straight from the apostle's mouths) not that long after Jesus' death and Resurrection instead of the Nicene Creed. I mean-what exactly was wrong with this original creed, that Constantine had to change what Christians are to believe to the Nicene Creed? And the Nicene Creed has been changed several times after the original one! The creeds are close in what is taught....except for the adding of the "Trinity" doctrine, which is NOT listed in the original Apostle's creed. Maybe this is not an important thing to worry about, but it bugs me a lot. Makes me wonder why we had to change it in the first place.......???
  24. I don't know a lot about all this, but I honestly think that we need to study the book of Acts, and go by what the EARLY, first Christians were practicing, rather than just what the Nicene Creed said, which was written in the 4th century A.D. in an attempt to unify the Christian church under emperor Constantine....... but was this creed just an attempt to unify the Christian church with pagan traditions from before Constantine converted....or was this the way that Jesus instructed the FIRST Christians to be in the early church? Are we following MAN-MADE TRADITION over what Jesus told us in the early church of Acts?????? Carefully study the book of Acts.....and notice the things that the disciples did in that book. They kept the Feasts, for one thing.....and it doesn't say anything about them not keeping God's Commandments. Jesus tells us in Matthew 15:7-9.... "Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 `These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' " I think the book of Acts is how we should live.....whether or not the "Nicene Creed" thinks it is right or not? I mean, I'm sure I'll get a lot of bad comments about this, but who was Constantine really? An ex pagan who was trying to convert as many pagans to Christianity in as many ways as he could.....and made a creed out of it! I'm nobody....I'm not a Bible scholar at all....I'm just a new Christian who wants to study the truth about what I believe.....and to me, that means to study the origins of the Nicene Creed, which is the "law" of Christianity. But that does not mean it's what God says is the truth. To me, it means keeping the Feasts (I've just started learning about this), and the 10 commandments.....which most every Christian keeps anyway-EXCEPT most Christians keep every commandment EXCEPT the one about keeping the Sabbath! Think about it....we all try to love God with all our hearts. We all TRY to love each other as we love ourselves. We all try not to lie, steal, commit adultry, covet, etc. etc......so here we are, all keeping the LAW! Yet when it comes to keeping the Sabbath, that's where people balk! They say..."Oh no! If I kept the Sabbath, I'd be under the Law,and fall from grace!" Makes no sense. So I do my best to love everyone, love God with all my heart, believe in Jesus, keep the Feasts and follow the 10 commandments,, and yes, I keep the Sabbath. I don't work on the Sabbath. As far as the sacrifices...of course I don't do them because Jesus took care of that when He became THE sacrifice for our sins. I eat any food I want, because Jesus said that what goes in the mouth is not what makes a man unclean. He declared all foods clean. So I don't worry about foods, although I still believe that some foods are disgusting, like pork because a pig will eat anything, even puke. Just because something is good, does not mean it is good for you. One thing that has always bothered me......all the "contridictions" that people find in the Bible, compared to what the Nicene Creed, or our pastors say, or our parents, grandparents, etc., etc...... Our God did not intend for us to be CONFUSED about what to do......Satan is the author of confusion, not God! God clearly tells us what to do in His Word, right? Yet we are confused by trying to incorporate the traditions of MAN into what God says to do........ NO WONDER no one can figure out what we are supposed to do! No wonder everyone is confused about Christianity! We are IGNORING what God clearly tells us to do, so that we can follow man-made traditions...and then we wonder why we are confused and have no idea what Christians are supposed to do! Either way.....just my opinion here. Thought I'd jump in.
