  4. Oops, sorry I missed one: According to Luke 23:46 Jesus did go to Paradise the very day He died; "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" Jesus, however, did not say that He would be there for all three days. What Jesus was talking about in John 20:17 was His final ascention to the Father until the time of His 2nd coming. His work was not yet finished, He needed to prove to the disciples that He had indeed been resurrected. warm regards -bud
  5. Hello SDA, What Paul is speaking of here are the rewards given to all believers at the Judgment Seat of Christ. This event will occur immediately following the rapture or resurrection of the church after it is caught up to be with the Lord in the air as described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Remember, at the 2nd coming in Revelation 19:8, the Lord returns with His bride at the end of the tribulation, she is seen already rewarded. Her reward is described as fine linen, the righteous acts of the saints
  6. Well, what about when Paul wrote: "I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far." Philippians 1:23 Or what Christ said in Luke 23:43 - Jesus answered him,

    Baptism

I would like to add that Jesus was baptized when he was an adult. If baptism is necessary for salvation, why wasn't Christ baptized as an infant as an example? After all, infant mortality was quite high in those times, so the sooner the better, right? warm regards -bud

    Baptism

If baptism is necessary for salvation, would the Apostle Paul have proclaimed: "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel..." 1 Corinthians 1:17 Or would this same great man of God have stated: "I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;" 1 Corinthians 1:14 John the Baptist's message was: "Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:2 After people repented, then they were... "... baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins." Matthew 3:6 Listen to what the Ethiopian eunuch asked Philip as they discussed the subject of baptism: "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Acts 8:36-37 The Bible teaches that baptism should occur after salvation, not as a requirement for salvation. When the Philippian jailer asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Paul answered: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house... And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway." Acts 16:30, 31, 33 First, they believed, then they were baptized. Baptism always follows salvation! Here's another example: "And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized." Acts 18:8 In Acts chapter two, Peter preached. When he finished: "... they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." Acts 2:41 Again, they were baptized, not to become sons of God, but because they already were sons of God. When Philip preached to the people of Samaria, first came salvation, then baptism: "But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." Acts 8:12 Soon after in that same passage, Simon, a deceiving sorcerer, followed the same path: "Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip..." Acts 8:13 Just before his death, the thief on the cross next to Jesus put his faith in Jesus Christ. Obviously, he was never baptized, but he still went to paradise. Why? Because salvation is through faith in Christ, not through baptism. warm regards -bud

    Baptism

I agree. Infant baptism is not biblical and has no place in the church. What makes this practice especially disturbing is that the Bible does not record a single occurance of an infant being baptized. On the contrary, every mention of baptism involves people old enough to hear and receive the gospel. Newborn infants can not repent, believe or confess their sins. Therefore, they are never qualified to be scripturally baptized. warm regards -bud
  12. A good c/p on the topic: The Bible says that one third of the angels rebelled against God. Satan (Lucifer) was the angel in charge of this rebellion. These angels were punished by being banished from heaven. Satan hates man. Man has a relationship with God that angels could never have. Man was made in the image and likeness of God. Satan is jealous of this and hates us for it. He wants to deceive human kind into rejecting God, so that man will share the same punishment that he is destined for. Satan knows that one single lie wont be effective in deceiving everyone. So he came up with several. Some men would be deceived by Ghosts and reincarnation. Others would adopt an evolutionary philosophy, that the world created itself without God. Others would be deceived into believing in pagan gods, etc... I believe (and the Bible says) that Satan sends fallen angels to earth to deceive us. Satan wants us to doubt the existence of God. He wants man to share in his punishment. Part of this deception is the appearance of "ghosts". Satan wants man to believe that these are the spirits of people who have died. That they have overcome the chains of death and returned. This is opposite of what the Bible says happens when we die. By being presented with these spirits one tends to question if the Biblical destination after death is the correct one. Because if ghosts exist, then clearly heaven does not. The truth is these "ghosts" are not the spirits of men and women, but rather fallen angels masquerading as our loved ones. If man believes that he becomes a ghost or is reincarnated at death, he will exclude the possibility of heaven as his eternal home and God as his Father. Some "ghosts" have appeared to humans claiming that they want to "help" them. They posses a knowledge that only that person could know. Which is convincing to the person involved. But what that person fails to realize is that angels have existed since God created the world. Angels are "older" than us, and older than our loved ones. They can easily retain knowledge about that persons life that "only they could know". 2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us that Satan and his angels are able to disguise themselves as helpful spirits. They Can Sound Spiritual. Christians need to avoid so called "divine or spirit-guides." God has given us His Word to guide us and not personal divine messengers. Demons masquerade as angels of light. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Again, 2 Cor. 11:14 Demons will quote scripture (Matt. 4:1-11) and they can pronounce Jesus' name. It is error to believe that demons cannot and will not pronounce Jesus name. "And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, saying,

    Church Scam

Here's a sad one: Jury Weighs Case of Alleged Church Bilking Fri Feb 4, 6:13 PM ET U.S. National - AP ROME, Ga. - A federal jury began deliberating Friday in the case of a preacher charged with bilking nearly $9 million from 1,600 churches in 41 states in just over a year. The Rev. Abraham Kennard stood trial for three weeks on 132 criminal counts, including money laundering and mail fraud. The jury in the case deliberated for four hours on Friday, then adjourned until Monday. Kennard, 46, shared his dream of building a string of Christian resorts with a tight-knit community of black ministers. Word spread, and soon congregations nationwide were raising the $3,000 they needed to invest in Kennard's company. For their small investment, the faithful were assured, they would eventually get their money back more than 100 times over

  20. Here is a Q&A from Watchmen Bible Study Group. Did Jacob wrestle with Jesus, and who was Melchizedec? Yes it was God that Jacob wrestled with, though I suspect God was going easy on him (ha-ha). Below is the Scripture. You will notice that word translated "man" is not "ish" as in regular every day man, but rather, "Enowsh" which is a mighty man, a just man, a man above men so to speak (The Companion Bible has an excellent appendix on this called "synonymous words for man "). It is simply saying that God came in the flesh and dealt with Jacob. When God is in the flesh, who is He? You are correct, Jesus (Yehoshua - there are various spellings for this word but you know that it means "God with us"). Melchizedec was also Jesus (Melchisedec (Greek) {Heb 7:1-5}) and spelled: (Melchizedec (Hebrew) {Gen 14:18-20}) Gen 32:24-30 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man [Enowsh] with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. (KJV) Peniel: Hebrew word #6439 Penuw'el or (more properly,) Peniy'el- Penuel or Peniel = "facing God." warm regards -bud

  24. What horrifies me is that my children are being taught in school (their history book devotes 4 PAGES to Mohammed and Islam and only TWO SENTENCES to Jesus and Christianity) and by the mass media, that Islam is a religion of peace. It is NOT. I would rather have children AND adults know the truth than to be fed a lie that exposes them to danger. Islam is a dangerous and wicked belief system, and the reason why we don't see more news stories like the one from New Jersey is because Islam, for now, is a minority religion in this country. Mohammed taught that when you are weak, you speak of peace, but when you are strong you give the unbelievers three choices: (1) Convert. (2) Become subservient to Muslims. (3) DIE BY THE SWORD. I do not wish to "tolerate" a religion that teaches that. And yet you say we should "LOVE other religions and faiths?" May I ask you, do you truly believe that Christ is the only way to heaven? If so, then you are loving members of other religions straight into hell by your "toleration" of those religions. warm regards -bud

    Jesus beard

There is a great deal we would like to know about Jesus that we are simply not told. But we do know He was a Palestinian Jew, and as such the color of His skin would be olive, and His eyes brown. Palestinian Jews had black hair and kept it carefully groomed. They valued a full beard. He wore a sleeveless undergarment with a girdle, the customary cloak and sandals, and carried a staff on journeys. That is all we know about His appearance or can guess with confidence. warm regards -bud
