  1. I have wondered exactly who these "Men of Renown" were exactly. I keep thinking there might have been people like Hercules or the basis for Greek mythology, because I hear "renown" and think these guys were super-heroes or suchlike. And then I really wish the Bible would have expounded more on certain points, because I hate not knowing exactly what it's trying to tell me. I also wonder why God thought it was necessary to kill all but a couple or so of the animals. They were without sin, what did they do to deserve near-extinction? Okay, I know God's ways are the right ways, and I'm the one who lacks the big picture; I understand that. And I know God will someday say "Okay, here's why. See, makes sense?" Again, I wish I knew why NOW, dumb as it sounds. Maybe I feel that way because we just got two kittens running about the house. But He cared about the animals living in Ninevah and wanted them saved along with the people there as seen in the Book of Jonah. I dunno. I wish I wasn't so limited.
  2. Yeah, I'd love to see them try it in any neighborhood with a Jr. high school in it. Or a high school. Or South Central. Or Cabrini Green. ESPECIALLY South Central. You'd see scores of gang bangers having a field day with these guys. No drinking, prostitution, or drugs? That's 99% of the economy there. I'd fully expect the people trying to enforce these "laws" found duct-taped upside-down to a telephone pole the next morning with hot dogs stuffed in their mouths.
  3. Welcome~! You Sure Did Picked A Good And Quiet Topic To Put Your First Post In :24: Well, I have to start somewhere! Maybe some day I'll tell you about the last forum I posted in, that place was just weird. I actually find it odd that you have some people complaining that Obama is a Muslim and in the same breath talking about having spent years in Rev. Wrights church. Seemed a bit contradictory to me. But Obama, I think he's one of those people who believes he's Christian because a relative of his is, and it doesn't work that way. He's probably more sympathetic to Muslim causes than Christian ones, but I don't think he's a follower of Islam so much as I just don't think he's a believer in any religion at all. I could be wrong, but I think the last real Christian who was in the White House might have been Carter, although I'm unsure of what W believed and the extent to which he believed it.
  4. I'm sorry, "The Avengers" is a remake? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avengers_%28film%29 Well, the Wiki page says: So it's three very different ideas using the same name. But it's not a remake. The Avengers movie coming up has Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor in it, while the '98 one was a spy movie. Never heard of the 1942 one.

  6. Oh, we talk about this at work sometimes. So, for my first post (and hello, everyone!): Just for kicks, I re-read the Gospel of Matthew, and I didn't find anything on civil unions for gay couples there. Perhaps I missed something? Unless he's referring to when Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust, you've committed adultery? Well, he said nothing about looking at a man the same way, is that what Obama is saying? Or when Jesus said divorcing a woman for any reason except adultery is wrong, but said nothing about divorcing a man? Maybe I'm spitballing here, but perhaps Obama doesn't really know what's in the Sermon at all. Actually, I know a number of gay community members who have told me they dislike Obama because he doesn't really support gay marriage, or won't. One of them said words to the effect that they find it ironic that Dick Cheney, by virtue of his daughter, supports them more in this issue than Obama does. But then, I think Obama's biggest problem is that he doesn't really seem to support anything at all except golfing. He strikes me as the type of guy who wanted to become president just so Disney would put up an audio-animatronic of him in the Hall of Presidents at Disneyworld.
