Oh, we talk about this at work sometimes. So, for my first post (and hello, everyone!):
Just for kicks, I re-read the Gospel of Matthew, and I didn't find anything on civil unions for gay couples there. Perhaps I missed something? Unless he's referring to when Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust, you've committed adultery? Well, he said nothing about looking at a man the same way, is that what Obama is saying? Or when Jesus said divorcing a woman for any reason except adultery is wrong, but said nothing about divorcing a man?
Maybe I'm spitballing here, but perhaps Obama doesn't really know what's in the Sermon at all.
Actually, I know a number of gay community members who have told me they dislike Obama because he doesn't really support gay marriage, or won't. One of them said words to the effect that they find it ironic that Dick Cheney, by virtue of his daughter, supports them more in this issue than Obama does. But then, I think Obama's biggest problem is that he doesn't really seem to support anything at all except golfing. He strikes me as the type of guy who wanted to become president just so Disney would put up an audio-animatronic of him in the Hall of Presidents at Disneyworld.
