  1. In context: Judges 13:3-5 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: 5 for, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head These verses apply to the woman who was about to conceive. That is what I mean by cherry-picking when verses are taken out of context!! No, her child shall not drink. Ever. Because he needs to be "good". And drinking is not "good". So that's what it means when it says that no razor shall come to his head. Is razor now a euphemism for alcohol? "and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink." That's what I'm talking about. Not sure where "razor" came from. The woman was told to abstain from strong drink because she was about to conceive. This says NOTHING about her child not being allowed to drink when he grows older. Please try to read what it says. You are making assumptions but are not backing these assumptions up with scripture. Sure I'm backing it up. I have already posted it. It says "For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb."
  2. This article is just full of assumptions. For example Noah drank wine in Genesis and it made him drunk, yet when Timothy is advised to drink wine, it is claimed in this article that 'wine' simply refers to unfermented wine juice. It does explain this by stating that the word 'wine' can have different meanings but who is to know what meanings apply and when? It feels like an article of selected cherry-pickings written by somebody whose motive is to prove a point first and then manipulate scripture to prove that point, rather than working the other way round. I feel that the author is thoroughly against alcohol and is claiming somewhere along the line that Bible translators got it wrong and have been mis-translating for centuries. Judges 13:4 So be careful; you must not drink wine or any other alcoholic drink Proverbs 31:4 And it is not for kings, O Lemuel, to drink wine and whiskey. Ezekiel 44:21 Neither shall any of the priests drink wine Luke 1:15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. Numbers 6:3 he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of fermented drink In context: Judges 13:3-5 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: 5 for, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head These verses apply to the woman who was about to conceive. 3. Thanks. Looks like an awesome app but they do not seem to have one for Linux.
  4. Actually, there are lots of places in the Bible that say not to drink at all. Well I am always happy to be corrected. Care to mention any that instruct a blanket ban on drinking alcohol for everybody? Also care to explain other passages that would appear to contradict? Pr. 20:1 for start Also, this article explains what seems to be contradictions. http://lavistachurchofchrist.org/LVanswers/2008/04-10b.html This article is just full of assumptions. 9. Thank you. That helps some. I'm trying to find some that describe what angels do for us, if anything.

  11. Wrong. Jesus' forgiveness is perfect. Being saved means we have a future relationship with God exactly as Floatingaxe said. It is what Christ said was the whole purpose of His coming here was. You are correct. To say that Jesus death only covers "past sins" makes no sense and the Bible doesn't say that. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the death penalty for "SIN" Man stands before God condemned, not on the basis of whats he has done, but on the basis of his inherent sinful condition, that condition in Romans is known as sin and is directly connected to the death of Jesus on the cross. There were two things that happened on the cross. Jesus blood was shed for the remission of sins AND He died to deliver us once and for all from the bondage of sin, our sinful nature. The blood of Jesus forgives us for what we have done. The death of Jesus delivers us from what we are. The salvation of a believer is connected in the death of Jesus, from about Rom. 5:12 to the end of Romans 8. Paul deals with how a believer is delivered from the bondage of sin. That is why we are eternally secure. Sin carries a death penalty and the death of Jesus paid that death penalty once and for all. It forever satisfied God's justice against sin. But it is up to man to appropriate that by grace through faith. Some of what you said is true, and some is not. Jesus did die to pay the price for any sin we could ever commit, but not everyone benefits from that sin atonement. Some don't benefit because they never accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Some only experience short term benefits because they start out with the Lord and backslide and die in that condition. Some start out saved, backslide like the prodigal son who was lost and dead, and then they return to the Father and are now found and saved again. The same blood atonement saved that person both times. If you were saved yesterday and haven't been saved today, you better get to praying. As a matter of fact, if you haven't been saved in the last 5 minutes, you had better be accepting Jesus. It is the only way we can get to Heaven under your explanation.

  13. Wrong. Jesus' forgiveness is perfect. Being saved means we have a future relationship with God exactly as Floatingaxe said. It is what Christ said was the whole purpose of His coming here was. I am not sure what to do with that comment. I would just say you are wrong and so is Floatingaxe. Feel free to respond by telling me I am wrong again so we can go around in circles. Ok, how is Jesus' forgiveness not perfect. How is being saved not mean a relationship with God?

  15. Exactly. I'm not sure how anyone can miss that.
  16. Upon becoming a BAC, Jesus' righteousness was imputed to us! Then lo and behold, we are required to maintain that righteousness! Let’s start here … with the definition of WHO is righteous ... “… let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous” (1 John 3:7) And note … only BACs are capable of being righteous: “… you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.” (1 John 2:29) And note ... the reverse of the above verse is not true. “… whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” (Acts 10:35) We are to choose to be “(slaves) of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16) “… so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.” (Romans 6:19) “... let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness” (Revelation 22:11) “... the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God” (Romans 14:17-18) These requirements are only re: the word "righteousness". There are many other things involved to be considered righteous in God's eyes! And they're all explained in the NT, which the churches choose to ignore ... TOO UNPOPULAR! Exactly. Only Jesus can be righteous. Therefore, if being unrighteous causes us to lose our salvation, we are all going to lose our salvation the moment we get saved and go on about our lives. Therefore, none of us are going to heaven except those who die immediately after being saved.
  17. I am entering into an open discussion. Please present YOUR views as to WHY there are dozens of warnings written to churches about: SIN RESULTS IN ETERNAL DEATH. Now, to be fair, these verses are strictly talking about habitual unrepented-of sin! I.E. a lifestyle of good olde fashioned old-man type sinning! And this has been done historically by some who erroneously have been indoctrinated into OSAS! I.E. that is why OSAS is from the pits of hell. Sin results in "death" which Jesus took our place. When we are saved, we accept what he has done for us and our sin is forgiven. Okay, great, this is what is taught in Kindergarden. But, the little kiddos who are guzzling milk are not reading Scripture. I have progressed past that stage ... I indulge in the occasional beer. It's taught because it is true. You make poor points here.
  18. As I have said before, if you could lose your salvation, none of us would be saved. We would have to continuously ask to be saved because as soon as we got saved and went on about our lives, we sin again and there goes our salvation. Christ's salvation is perfect. I did nothing to earn it and there is nothing I can do to lose it.

  20. Read 2 Timothy 2:13 and you will see that nothing threatens the loss of anyone's salvation. If we could lose our salvation, we'd all be going to hell. None of us are good enough to hold on to salvation. But Christ's forgiveness is perfect. He'll never let me go according to 2 Timothy.

  22. I'm looking for some Bible verses that talk about or describe angels. What are some that you know of?
  23. I explain it to someone this way. If I have a secretary that I dictate something to, she writes it down, types it up, runs it off, etc, who wrote it? The Bible is very much the same way. Yes, man physically wrote it on paper but the words are from God. Much of the Bible was physically written by David, Moses, Paul, etc, but they were writing for God very much like a secretary would.
