Reply to sister When evolution goes from species to species, that is simply a zoomed out version of the tiny changes we observe in the lab. It just takes millions of years. Firstly, a fish doesn't just, evolve into a man, but a series of tiny changes make a difference. Some 500 million years ago, fish started to live in the limit between ocean and dry land, and that place favoured the mutations that were adapted to the climate. They evolved the ability to breathe air over time, and their fins turned into legs (all that is microevolution) However, a million years down the line, those few fish that lived between land and ocean became what we know as reptiles, and you could say that is macroevolution as you see a cross species change.

Reply to Oakwood Evolution can be tested using the fossil record and sedimentary rocks ect. I suggest you read my post about the proof of evolution above. And just in case you wanted labratory proof, we have observed change is organisms in labs. I suggest one of your reasons for denying evolution is that you can't see it. Large changes take place over millions of years, some people call it macroevolution but I myself do not use those terms as it sometimes acts as a separation when there is none. Man made global warming also gas been proven 100% true, but what does the bible say against that (just curious, you guys know the bible better than me). Evolution is not a lie, is true. Your sentence doesn't make sense. A lie is a false statement, but evolution has been proven so therefore it is not a lie. Do you really want unprovable illogical myths taught in schools or proper scientific fact? Evolution us a fact, therefore it is doing children a misjustice not to teach it. There are plenty of intermediate fossils such as Archeopteryx which is a transitional fossils between dinosaurs and birds. Archeopteryx had fingers which birds do not, but wings that birds have and dinosaurs don't. Tiktaalik is a lobe finned fish from the devonian period. It possesed many features of tetrapods like gills and lungs. In our own species, evidence like Homo erectus is an intermediate fossil. And as for evidence evolution is false, please suppy me some. I have looked lot and cannot find any. Please lay out a logical argument (and please don't use a fictitious poorly written story made up a few thousand years ago as evidence as that does not count. That's like me using The harry potter books to prove the existance of wizards and magic broomsticks) In fact, religion (not just christianity) is the one destroying and brainwashing people with dangerous lies. It has held back pioneering science like stem cell research because 'god does not allow it'. That really is the most futile and pathetic excuse I have ever heard. Come up with a better myth, or even better, do some proper science. Thinking for just a few minutes a day will cure people of religion. The only reason you refute evolution is that you do not understand it. Religion is just an alternative for those who don't understand science.

No evidence at all supports creationism. Macroevolution is simply a 'zoomed out' version of microevolution

What Some Atheists Really Believe....

Old carbon dating techniques and machines were slightly off sometimes, but moderrn dating is much more accurate. I will now challenge you to prove evolution is not true, since you seem to refute all logical evidence I present to you.

Our intelligence and whether we want a higher power to exist are irrelevant. There is no evidence to prove a higher power exists.

Man is in no way abive the animal kingdom. We are animals, yes we posses higher intelligence than most animals, but that only comes from a 1% differnece in DNA from chimps up to humans. This is quite an interseting topic, so I will elaborate further. If we make up an arbitary definition of intelligence for now, let's say intelligence is the ability to build, compose poetry, do maths and science. Let's make that our definiton of intelligence for now. Chimps can't do any of that, so everything that separates us from chimps, comes from a 1% of DNA. Humans have built skyscrapers, looked into outer space and created technologies like computers, phones, appliances ect. The most brilliant chimp ever would probably be able to do some hamd signals or something, so the difference between hand signals and a skyscraper, comes from one percent DNA. So, imagine that there is a species 1% different from us, in the direction that we are different from chimps. Think about how intelligent they would be! So I wonder, that if we as a species are simply too stupid to understand some things around us. But one thing we do understand is evolution. It is clear from carbon dating that other animals were around millions of years before humans, and it is clear that the differnce between their existence is millions of years from 'one day'. Please don't get any information from answers in genesis. It is a deluded, misguided site/ museum whose arguments have been disproven. As for evolution from one species to another, macroevolution is just an extension of microevolution. Macroevolution encompasses the grandest trends and transformations in evolution, such as the origin of mammals and the radiation of flowering plants. Macroevolutionary patterns are generally what we see when we look at the large-scale history of life. It is not necessarily easy to "see" macroevolutionary history; there are no firsthand accounts to be read. Instead, we reconstruct the history of life using all available evidence: geology, fossils, and living organisms. Once we've figured out what evolutionary events have taken place, we try to figure out how they happened. Just as in microevolution, basic evolutionary mechanisms like mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natutal selection are at work and can help explain many large-scale patterns in the history of life. The basic evolutionary mechanisms — mutation, migration, genetic drift, and natural selection — can produce major evolutionary change if given enough time. You might think that microevolution is too small to influence macroevolution, but it isn't. Remember that evolution has been at work for 3.8 billion years.

The story of Noah's ark is just unreasonable to me. A 150 metre ship, built by a family of unskilled people, managed to sail underwater for a full year while extreme currents and waves rattled the water and managed to run aground safely on a mountain while carrying 14,000 passengers. That is simply illogical. In fact, a ship called the Wyonging, built by the best shipbuilders in the world, was 30 metres shorter than the ark is said to have been, twisted apart in the ocean current killing all 14 crewmen. Surely the much bigger, much heavier and much lower quility ark would have done the same. If you visit the grand canyon (which I have not had the pleasure of doing yet, unfortunately) you will find that the fossils of each animal time period are in layers, as the sedimentary rock built up. In a worldwide flood, you would expect some animals to swim up to a higher level. Apparently not a single one of them did. Another myth attributed to the ark story is a massive land bridge. The ark apparently ran aground on a mountain in the middle east. The animals from say, Australia or Britain would need to get back to their habitat. They can't all live in the middle east forever. Apprently, god created a land bridge, connecting the place of the ark's landing to all the places the animals needed to go. Some animals have short lifespans, and that journey would have taken years, so you would expect fossils of Kangaroos or Koalas to be along a 'road' from the middle east to Australia. There are none.

There is so much evidence for evolution, I cannot explain all of it to you without taking days, but I will explain a few things. The fossil record shows that organisms change over time. We can use carbon dating to check how old a certain fossil is, and we can use DNA and recognition testing to see what the creature is. When we look at lots of different fossils of the same creature from different times, we see that it has changed. For example; horses. Horses are one of the animals we have a complete record for by looking at fossils. 60 million years ago, the horse was a dog sized creature that lived in the rainforest. Slowly they evolved until they are the plain dwelling, 2 metre high animal we know and love today. For ease of reading I will put a diagram of this below. Peppered moths Before the industrial revolution in Britain, most peppered moths were of the pale variety. This meant that they were camouflaged against the pale birch trees that they rest on. Moths with a mutant black colouring were easily spotted and eaten by birds. This gave the white variety an advantage, and they were more likely to survive to reproduce. Pollution in industrial areas blackened the birch tree bark with soot. This meant that the mutant blackmoths were now camouflaged, while the white variety became more vulnerable to predators. This gave the black variety an advantage, and they were more likely to survive and reproduce. Over time, the black peppered moths became far more numerous in urban areas than the pale variety. Darwin's birds Darwin studied the wildlife on the Galápagos Islands. He noticed that the finches on the different islands there were fundamentally similar to each other, but showed wide variations in their size, beaks and claws from island to island. For example, their beaks were different depending on the local food source. Darwin concluded that, because the islands are so distant from the mainland, the finches that had arrived there in the past had changed over time. Sedimentary rock is created when layers of sand, rock, fossils ect are compressed and turn to rock. This however takes millions of years to form. If you have a large surface area of sedimentary rock (going upwards), then you shall find that the fossils of particular animals change, and get more like the animal we know today when you get nearer the surface. That is just a bit of the evidence for evolution, there is soooooooo much more. I challenge you to find anything that supports creation as the origin of life and species. Again, I do not mean to offend anyone, and we are all entitled to our own opinion. Have a nice day ?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but there isn't really a debate any more. Evolution has been proven 100% true by many pieces of evidence such as the fossil record, DNA ect. A more interesting question would be if it's possible that a supernatural creator oversaw evolution, perhaps helping it along a bit. I myself do not belive in god, as there is no evidence to prove he is, but I am always open to new ideas and evidence. This is what I find a little annoying in some (by no means all) religious people. They will not change their minds even if all evidence points the other way. That is the beauty of science that we base our conclusions on actual evidence.

Thanks for your interesting answers, I may post some more questions soon

Just before you tell me this should be in another section, I can't post in those yet so please bear with me. I have some questions for you guys. Do you think evolution is true? If not why not? Should a killer who truthfully repents be allowed into heaven? Should a kindhearted atheist or person of another faith be allowed into heaven? If a person you care about is ill (and I hope that never happens) would you just pray for them or would you take them to a doctor? If you say you'd do both, then which do you think would have more effect? Would you be happy in heaven, if somebody you loved was in hell? Who's prayers does god answer? And if it's ultimately his will what happens anyway, then why bother praying? If god spoke to you and told you to kill somebody, would you do it? Is god always watching you? How about when you're on the toilet? If Christianity was proven wrong, what would you're reaction be? Why has so much of the bible been proven wrong, like the flat Earth theory? Is the bible literally true, or just morally It is not at all my intention to offend anyone, and I apologise if I did. I simply wondered what your answers would be. Thanks again and have a nice day
