  1. "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil" (Matt 4:1-2).

After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist He was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert to be temped by the devil. Jesus was being tempted as a man, not as God. Jesus came to earth as a man to live His life with the same limitations as you and I. Satan wanted him to come out of His human condition into His God nature to deal with His hunger. It was Jesus' first real test to be a human being.

Some people think God would never lead His people into the desert to be tested. Some would even say this is the devil's doing. The fact is, both statements are true. God actually uses Satan to test His servants to help develop obedience in their lives.

Jesus had to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit in His life just like you must in order to have victory over temptation. God was testing His obedience. He was not allowed to be God in this situation. This would be true for the rest of His life. The miracles He would perform were the result of seeing what the Father was doing and obeying His commands. Jesus said we would do even greater works than He did because we have the same access to the Father as He did.

God led the people of Israel into the desert to learn something about themselves. They learned about their level of obedience when life became difficult. "Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands" (Deut 8:2).

When God leads you into the desert, He is allowing you to learn something about yourself. We all need to learn how we will respond to temptations in our lives. As we press into God during these times the roots of our faith are forced deeper and deeper into the soil of His grace.

Do not fear being led into the desert. This too is the way of God.

  2. ...with a group that studies strange happenings. If they only knew of the strange things going on around these parts they would probably give me a larger salary for having first hand experience. I thought that weird rainbow suit would attract the trout and give me a covering so I could get close enough to hear what was going on with Dave. He seems to be way out in left field these days and no one can penetrate that armor he has around him. Best to just go on to DC and wait until things cool down a bit. I wonder what will happen when he hears about...

  3. .....Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of a young woman just standing there. Curious he turned to get a better look. She smiled ever so faintly at him. Her blue eyes had concern in them that reached his heart. She brushed a whisp of her long dark hair off her face and began to walk toward him. Thoughts of Esther crossed his mind, then he knew. No matter that his mother-in-law got on his nerves, this lovely woman before him was a gift from God. Her consistant love for him, even when he did not deserve it, moved him to want to be a better husband, a better man of God.

"Please excuse momma, David, she's been pretty upset over all this. She may grumble but she's been concerned about you."

He tried to laugh but his head hurt to much. "Where are the...

  4. But we aren't supposed to be concerned about our own personal safety, are we? We are given challenges in this life, and this one is mine. Up until now I haven't done very well with this challenge...but the challenge was given to me for a reason...perhaps to learn to love, unconditionally...I just don't know how.

Your statement, "We aren't supposed to..." can keep us bound in feelings of fear and uncertainly. I can see you are beating yourself up because of what someone else is doing. Stop! Everytime you begin with a we aren't supposed to feel this or that etc... tell the Lord. "Lord, I am afraid or Lord, I feel..., but I know Your word says perfect love casts out all fear, yet, Father, I am afraid. Please help. Show me how to respond to this person. I give it over to You Lord and thank You for Your loving hand and guidance. In Jesus name amen."

I don't believe the Lord sets challenges before us. A challenge is something we strive to conquor and thus the glory goes to us. The glory should always be God centered. He will and does put us in places so when we turn to Him, He gets the glory. Don't turn serving the Lord into a personal challenge. Let Him be your shoulder to lean on, your source of strength in time of trouble.

He gave us law enforcement for those who don't fear Him...they will certainly fear the law or pay the piper. Hopefully, with our prayers, that will send those who oppose us to the Bible and knowledge of a loving, forgiving God who loves us all, but hates sin. Your part in this love process for those "hard to love", ...forgive them, pray for them.

    Be blessed.

  5. More than once those who seem to rub us raw emotionally have sent me running to the Fathers arms. I have learned that He sometimes uses them to not only help us to learn to obey His command to love, but to draw us closer to Him. More than once I have also cried out something like, "Lord, I have had a rough day, please close the mouth of the lion for awhile."

I am sure I, too, have gotten under someones skin more than once. Glad he teaches us love is patient, love is kind... :-)

  6. ...Dave finds himself being pulled up a dark tunnel. His life flashes before him. There is a peace around him for a moment then he looks up. The brilliance of the light at the top of the tunnel has him mesmarized. There was an anticipation to see what was ahead as he is almost to the top of the tunnel. Then as he is just about to see what is there fear strikes him and he begins to fight in a panic. "No! No! I'm not ready yet!" he cries out. A noise like a turned over trash can startles him. He looks around and stares right into the face of...

  7. I am so glad this topic came up. I have been studying the beauty of holiness for several weeks now. I found there are two different references to the beauty of holiness. One is reference to the Lords presence and one reference to our becoming holy. There has been a tugging in my spirit to study it out more. Then, when this post appeared I asked the Lord to help me understand the verse in question concerning favor. There was no way to grasp that without reading the entire Psalm 90 and then seeking the Lord on the subject. I actually said to Him, Lord, I don't want to just post my "opinion". Help me know what to say. I was tickled at what His reply was at first. It was in essence, "You have been given My Spirit, so your opinion now lines up with Me."

    I then wrote this below:

"Because of the scriptures that led up to this one I would say in this passage favor could be viewed as loving mercy to a people that desire to be in the centered in the beauty of holiness. Those of us who have been corrected by the Lord know the joy of His great mercy and the fruit that follows in our lives as we desire to know Him in the beauty of holiness."

However, I wanted to run it by the Bible first, before I posted it, so I looked up Psalm 90:17 in several different versions of the Bible. Then, I went to Matthew Henry's Commentary and much to my joy it bore witness to what I wrote. I especially like what his commentary had to say in closing on the subject.

" Instead of wasting our precious, fleeting days in pursuing fancies, which leave the possessors for ever poor, let us seek the forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance in heaven. Let us pray that the work of the Holy Spirit may appear in converting our hearts, and that the beauty of holiness may be seen in our conduct."

  8. A little baffeded the sheriff just stood and looked at Dave a moment. Maybe he should check the system to see if his finger prints came up. It just didn't seem likely that he could remember his first name before the storm but not now. And he never heard of an amnesia case where the victom could only remember part of their name. Something didn't seem right about this guy. He took his cell phone out of his pocket and...

  9. Because of the scriptures that led up to this one I would say in this passage favor could be viewed as loving mercy to a people that desire to be in the centered in the beauty of holiness.

Those of us who have been corrected by the Lord know the joy of His great mercy and the fruit that follows in our lives as we desire to know Him in the beauty of holiness.

  11. So I have been at this job location for about three months now. I am a team leader of the cleaning crew at a school house. I am no one's boss, but I do pass orders down from my boss to the employees, and sometimes I have to make decisions and tell people what needs to be done, if need be. My position must mean that I am automatically hated, cause these past three months have felt like 3 long miserable years. There are 4 people that work there besides myself. They all know each other, all talk with each other, and all take up for each other. Well, I always ask them to do something in the kindest way, but they always make excuses and have a bad attitude. I usually have talks with them and get things sorted out. Usually it's nothing I can't work out, though I admit the way they disrespect me hurts.

(BUT!...) My main problem is this one lady, who decided that she hated me and the ground I walk on, with all her heart, when she first laid eyes on me. I can not figure it out guys. I have tried my best to treat this lady the best that I can, and she disrespects me, spreads lies about me, gossips about me, calls me names, makes smart remarks, and down right refuses to listen to anything I have to say. Today I put my foot down and told her just how terrible I think she has been to me. And I warned her that if her behavior continues, she will be fired.

This conflict has affected my self-esteem. I am already insecure about certain things, such as possibly being a pushover, or being looked down on. And the way she speaks to me in such a condescending way, really gets to me. She says I don't have a brain. Funny she says that. I'm only 20 years old and have already worked my way up to a position above hers. I am also a high school graduate, and will be a college student in January. She calls me a liar. I asked her to name one time I have lied to her, and she could not say anything. She makes extremely insulting personal remarks. One night when I asked everyone if they are ready to clock out, one employee happily said "Yes sir!", cause it was time to go. In a hateful voice she said "Humph! I wouldn't say "sir"." She says I'm nothing but a little boy. Hmm...little boy eh? I travel 22 miles to work everyday, working 40 hours a week, and have to deal with the garbage that spews from her mouth everyday? It takes a man to even walk back into that place.

As you can see with the paragraph above, I am taking her personal insults to heart. When you hear something so much, you wonder if it's true or something? It brings back bad memories of how tough school was for me, when I felt like I was always the one taking the blunt of everything bad. Like I was the one on the outside looking in. I give my best to this lady, and she spits in my face. I seriously wanted to quit so bad today, but I can't. You may think it's just one person, how can it bother me? It bothers me, badly. Because I have gotten along with everyone I have ever known. I have so much to offer, but she tries to tear me down. And what makes it worse is she spreads lies about me to people who don't even know me. I don't know how much more I can take. Good news is, in two months my boss is transferring me back to my old job in my town, since I am taking classes in January. But I don't want to just "suffer it out." To me, I have 2 months to make the impact I feel God wants me to make. I know I have made progress with the other employees, to an extent. But I want to get things right with this lady. But her cruelty and refusal to cooperate has me deeply discouraged.

My heart goes out to you. We all encounter being mis treated after we become Christians sooner or later. The work place is notorious for it, especially in the times we are living in. A wise pastor once said, "Don't let their wrong attitudes affect your attitude." I cannot tell you I have always kept my cool and turned the other cheek. More than once I have muttered under my breath only to have someone hear me and spread it all around. The devil just loves that because he can try to use it to discourage us or cause us to wonder if their wrong opinions about us are actually right. It is when we are in such places that the devil tries to sneak in and take our lives. But be assured, if you hold fast to the word of God and do as the Lord said, you are not displaying perfection, you are being changed by a loving God that says when we are weak, He is strong. He can display Himself in your life and be glorified in all you say and do. And you will soon see as you get through this that He has strengthened you and made you a better person. He may even use this to heal all those broken places from your past that keep cropping up. Our God is an Awesome God! He can take anything the devil throws at us and make it turn out for our good!!! Rest assured He sees your need and He is there for you even if it doesn't seem like it at times. Read Ephesians 6 each day before you go to work, out loud, and apply the promises to yourself. You keep right on walking in love and pray for those who mistreat you. Even if they don't change right away, you will. You are on what I like to call proving ground. It is the place where the Lord can show us who we are in Christ. Be blessed!!!

  12. He comes and goes, but I don't think he's been kicked out of the heavens yet and forced to remain here.

DON'T LET THE DEVIL DECEIVE YOU. DONT JUST LOOK AT ONE SCRIPTURE, READ EVERYTHING IN THE BIBLE ON THE SUBJECT. HERE ARE TWO VERY KEY SCRIPTURES FOR BELIEVERS TO STAND ON.

M't:4:1: Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

M't:4:2: And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

M't:4:3: And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

M't:4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

M't:4:5: Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

M't:4:6: And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

M't:4:7: Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

    M't:4:8: Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

M't:4:9: And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

M't:4:10: Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

M't:4:11: Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Eph:6:10: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Eph:6:11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph:6:12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph:6:13: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    Eph:6:14: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    Eph:6:15: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph:6:16: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Eph:6:17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

    Eph:6:18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

  13. We are at the end of the final tribulation, we are just under 2 years from the day of the rapture which will take place on MAY 21 2011, this is in the bible and this is what god has reveal.

I saw this May 21, 2011 nonsense on a very reputable Christian web site. I sent them an e mail and asked them about it. It was a link to their site, and I thought maybe they were unaware of what it said. I was right. They apologized for this un-biblical link and had it removed.

  14. Well yeah we teach them the Bible.. like today's lesson was about Friendship in the Bible and we looked at David and Johnathan.

But I mean in terms of Acronyms and little things they could remember as they go about their day.

How about putting memory verses to a melody they like, or have them make up their own melody.

  15. "Some limit the speaking in tongues to merely preaching in other languages." ---herald2

herald2, I have often wondered about this. I have heard many try to reason away the gift of tongues at Penticost by saying they were just speaking in other peoples languages, not an unknown tongue. Has no one ever considered #1 when they came out of the upper room the people outside at first thought they were drunk #2 would anyone think a person was drunk just because they spoke another language #3 the Bible says one will speak in an unknown language and another interpret so everyone will know what was said #4 so how come it is not clear to many Christians that when they came out of the upper room speaking in tongues that their tongues were being interpreted to the people in their languages.

I pray in tongues. Rarely a day goes by that, when I an praying in my own language, I will soon be praying in tongues. Tongues is for edification of the church and a sign to unbelievers. Very often I am overwhelmed by the Lords presence when I pray in tongues. Sometimes I am even moved to sing in tongues. I am edified and refreshed and whatever heavy load I may have been carrying just seems to lift off my shoulders. And sometimes the Holy Spirit Himself will move me to pray in tongues for something. This precious communication gift from our Lord is something I cherish.......never the less....the world will know us by our love for one another.

May all we do and say be done in the love taught to us by the Holy Spirit. :noidea:

  16. hi,

I became a christian(recommitted) three years back. I had a lot of emotional issues because of my disobedience till now, but now it is nearly all gone.

So God is going to come back. What do I do till then?

I read the Bible as much as I can.

    What else should I do?

Please give me specific answers. Don't tell me to be good or be God's child. How do I be all that?

Also more importantly, should I wait upon the Lord till then. Please say,"Yes you HAVE TO wait upon the Lord till He comes" or "no, you needn't". Any supporting verses would be useful.

    Thankyou for your time.

    God Bless You.

P.S.:In case you think this is a silly or even an impudent question, I come from a Hindu family from India. I live with people who'll chuck me out if they get to know I believe in Christ. So I do not exactly have a role model to follow. I've no idea what to do as a christian. Please guide me. Please pray that my family be saved.

    Occupy  Luke 19

  17. Bill Bright went home to be with the Lord several years ago. Here is an excerpt from his devotional that is very needful for so many struggling Christians. If you are one I pray this will help you get free.

    (Romans 7:25; 8:1)

    Dear Friends,

Are you having difficulty living the Christian life? Well, if you are trying in your own strength, give up! It is impossible.

One of my very dear friends was always the leader of any Christian cause in his city. He appeared to be radiant and joyful in every situation where I had observed him. One day I was passing through the community, I had a few moments at the airport, and decided to give him a call. I said, "How are you doing?"

He said, "I'm miserable. I wish the Lord would take me home." I was shocked. I'd never heard such words from this man.

Then he went on to say, "You think I'm a victorious Christian. I'm not. I'm a miserable sinner. I've been unfaithful. Ever since I became a Christian, I've put on an act. I've tried to convince people that I am a very wonderful Christian, but I am a hypocrite, constantly failing the Lord. I have tried everything I know to be a victorious Christian, but nothing works for me."

I felt impressed to read to him from Romans 7, where the great apostle Paul says. "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.... What a wretched man I am. Who will rescue me from this body of death?" (vs. 15,24, NIV).

He responded, "That is my biography!"

But Paul went on to give the solution in the last verse of that chapter: "Thanks be to God -- through Jesus Christ our Lord!" The Living Bible says, "Thank God! It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord. He has set me free."

I explained to him that there is no possible way he could live a victorious life in his own fleshly effort, no matter how many masks he may wear or how many resolutions he may make. The only one who could live the Christian life is the Lord Jesus Himself, living in us through the enabling of the Holy Spirit.

After reviewing the basic highlights of Romans 7, I went into the glorious passage of Romans 8, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (NIV).

This is a great liberating truth that needs to be known to all Christians who are struggling to please God in their own flesh. There is no way I can live the Christian life unless the Holy Spirit enables me, no matter how long I pray, fast, beg or plead. I am not capable in my own strength of pleasing God. We need the Helper -- the Holy Spirit. And He is available. But first I must recognize that my old "Bill Bright" was crucified with Jesus.

Yours for helping to fulfill the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns, Bill Brifgt

  18. Hearing His Voice...if you ask His to open up your understanding of His word as you read it...He will. Hold tight to it and don't allow the cares of this life choke it out of yours...it keeps getting gooder and gooder all the time!!!

    John 14:17

the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 16:12-14 (New King James Version)

  19. I have alwyas believed that salvation could not be lost and i have seen great scripture supporting both that it can and cannot be lost.

what do others think and what scripture leads you to think this?

The Lord has this to say about those who are not in right relationship with Him.

    2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

To the Church in Laodicea (NIV)

14"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm
