Looking forward to koinonia on Sunday. Be travelling away this week.

No-one will be doing a sermon.

We don't do sermons at our ekklesia (assembly).

    We do paraklēsis (exhortation).

    We do oikodomē  (edification).

    We do diakonia (ministry).

    But we don't do sermons.

    No sermons.

How do you like them apples?

Hello Michael37! Do you all speak Greek as well? Maybe you could give us more detail about how your Church actually operates. Those one liners simply leaves too much to conjecture, as the reactions here prove!

    Care to share more please?

    Cheers!!! :)

What is faith? For everyone it's your own. One begins to believe after a miracle happened in his life, the other believes simply because it's sincere. How to strengthen faith? In my opinion, it is a duty not only for the pastors, but also for the duty of things. People use anointing oil to create a higher spiritual atmosphere, smells, sounds. The atmosphere is also important for the emergence of faith, is not it?

    Hello Jerusalemgift! Welcome to Worthy.

Hebrews 11:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)

    By Faith

11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Actually I have alot of good cholesterol...HDL.   Not sure if that makes my cholesterol range better even though the number sounds high.

Below a 2.5 ratio of HDL to LDL you are in great shape. 3.0 is good. Above that and you need to control it. Divide LDL by HDL to get your ratio. They (the Med profession) say below 2.4 and you can actually reverse heart disease. Not so sure about that though. HDL cleans up LDL in the body so the more HDL the less LDL, but too little LDL and you risk other problems.

Personally, I don't worry too much about all this since our days are numbered to begin with!

Yes, I am hesitant to take statins from what I've read.   Do you use regular instant oatmeal?   Or is there some kind of steel cut oatmeal?  I don't know if there is a difference in absorbtion.  I wonder if other whole grain cereals would work as well?

I am trying to eat more fruit as a snack, too.  And a couple of Amy frozen meals I like have no cholesterol....like Pad Thai and Tamale stuffed with roasted veggies and beans.

I use Quaker Oats, Old fashioned. I'm sure instant works as well. Once you get the LCL levels down, you don't have to eat it every day. I do well with just once a week, even less at times.

As for what else works, I don't know. The Oatmeal works so well I never had any need to find another alternative. Someone above mentioned coconut oil, which is what I use when I need to heat something in oil, which is rare. It's good for greasing casserole dishes since it's the only oil that doesn't change chemical composition when heated. Lots of other benefits as well.

    Cheers Debp!!! :)

Hi, my cholesterol is a little high.  Hoping I won't have to take a statin for it.

Are there any side effects with statin  drugs?   Are there some generics that aren't too expensive?  Thanks for any input!

Hi Debp. My cholesterol used be in the 200 plus range, and I was prescribed Satans, ooops, I mean statin's. After researching these drugs I threw my prescription away and stated eating oatmeal each morning. My cholesterol is, and has remained below 160 since for several years now. Takes about a month before you notice results. Here's why it works. Only about 20% of cholesterol comes from what you eat, the rest is manufactured by the liver. You need cholesterol.  The liver also eliminates excess Cholesterol into the digestive tract as waste, but gets reabsorbed through the intestine. Oat meal captures cholesterol in the digestive tract and carries it out of the body so it can't be reabsorbed and that is what lowers your cholesterol levels, or so I've been told by a Doctor. Regardless, oatmeal works, so before you go on expensive meds, give it a try.

    Cheers!!! :)

Slavery is not good, being in debt is not good .. If you work for someone you are their slave so to speak .. My grandmother told me before labor laws in the early 1900s late 1800s of some of her uncles/friends worked as children in the cotton mills and got whipped when they ''cut up'' by the bosses . The mill had a village houses owned by the mill, a company store , and gentlemens agreements not to hire good help to other mills .. Some sailers signed on crews understanding that if they didn't obey commands or do their jobs they would be whipped and/or thrown in the brig .. Long ago you defeated enemies and either killed them all or took slaves ''they were the law''.. Their was no great cash flows and your pay was provision for service . Israel served Egypt as slave for quite a while , when they were delivered from the Egyptians they had developed a slave mentality , When the Amalekites attacked them in the desert , God not only protected his people then but preserved the Amalekites for later .. God wanted Israel to take care of business .. He waited until Israel became self reliant, tuff and strong then sicked them on the Amalekites to kill everything men, women, children even all the animals .. Payback ..

It's sad about the African slavery but remember the first president was Jon Hanson a Moor and black, many other notable Americans were black but history books lie about it .. .. The American slaves were captured, shipped and served as slaves but they come to know the Christian religion and Jesus, the civil war payed back our nation with great loss of life while black Americans suffered they/most grew strong in faith .. One of the worst slave owners in SC was  William Ellison jr who was black, owned plenty of slaves, and could be pretty ruthless .. Uncle Tom ''Josiah Henson'' was actually a great, one of the greatest Christians ever in America imo and his full story needs to be told .. The only way it can be justified is God meant it for their good and salvation like Joseph . The good news will be at the judgment seat of Jesus

Brujaq! I had no clue! Great post and historical facts! :o

First off, I have ocd if that helps with anything.

I'm having this weird thought that God will make someone sexually assualt me as discipline. I'm paranoid about it. Im scared about it. Also, weather I'm choosing a YouTube video or playing a game, well pretty much anything, I think if I make a certain choice, God will let my DAD sexually assualt me. My head hurts over this thought. I'm probably the only one here with this kind of thought. Please help.

You have OCD. What you wrote about your fears seems to definitely confirm OCD behavior. What kind of help are you getting for this condition, and if not, why not?

Also, are you a born again Christian? Have you been baptized (full immersion) in water at your church?

As has been said multiple times to this post of yours and the other on discipline, NONE of what you fear is coming from God. God does not torment people, He judges and corrects and heals and saves people through Jesus Christ.

Well, what about how neurotransmitters effect love, does science say it's a drug or does God. Is even introversion/extroversion deception? Thank you for your post.

    Hello Heb 13: 8! Again, Proverbs 3: 5.

How positive are you that "neurotransmitters"effect love, and not the reverse? Can God's Love come from neurotransmitters? Not very realistic, since God's Love existed before He even created neurotransmitters! :o

Heb 13:8, you are relying on your natural "habit" of trusting your intellectual understanding of things before trusting God's creation of them. and is a major source of struggle in accepting faith. We ALL go through this, and continue to deal with these contradictions between the flesh and the spirit. Just keep seeking and you will understand. Just as you now understand things you did not at a previous time.

But to make sure you allow God to keep you safe in your explorations, do your seeking based on His word, as in the verses in the previous post so you do not unintentionally fall into the trap of evil. (Matthew 10 : 28 and Luke 12: 5)

    Cheers!!! :)

Hello Heb 13: 8! Be careful here. Every single approach to psychology is based on a unifying core belief that we each are capable, through professional psychological council, to heal ourselves. This is after all the emphasis of psychology. This is also in direct conflict with God's word.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23 New King James Version (NKJV)

21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

    Blessing and Admonition

23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify[a] you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This link will give you 20 versus that conform God is our ONLY healer, not ourselves. Please consider these before you get too deeply involved with the deceptions of psychology.

    https://www.ibelieve.com/faith/20-bible-verses-about-healing-that-only-god-can-give.html,  especially #10.

    10. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. – Proverbs 3:5-

Anyway please consider these verses to guide you in any exploring of the science and philosophy of men! :o

    Cheers Heb 13: 8!!! :)

  12. 45 minutes ago, Behold said:

Well of course what you said is not true.

For example, God does not INTEND for a person to be born, so that they can go to hell and end up in the lake of fire.

God is not in the business of bringing some into the world with His INTENTION of them going to hell.

If God was like that, he would not be a Loving God, He would be a horrible manifestation of Evil....Cruel, Unjust, and mentally Ill......similar to the way your poison theology would paint Him and falsely accuse Him.

    Be careful.

Behold, Of course He is a loving God. There is no higher definition of Love than God. Did He not know each and everyone of us from the beginning? Did He not give us free will to chose? Did He not know our choices before we did? Absolutely. Is He not the greatest form of perfection possible? Of course He is. He is forever the same, never changing, immutable. Is He not Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent? Of course He is.

How then can anything occur without His knowledge of it and plan for it? Is His ways not higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts?

You wrote "For example, God does not INTEND for a person to be born, so that they can go to hell and end up in the lake of fire. God is not in the business of bringing some into the world with His INTENTION of them going to hell."

I agree, these things are not His intention,  They are man's intention by sinning against God. Because God already knows the choice we will each make before we make that choice, does not take away our free will, nor does it prevent Him from using our choices for His purpose. He wishes no one should perish and that evil should be destroyed, but we, through Adam, sinned against Him and fell from grace, and we each everyday sin continuously against God. It is our free will to do so. None of us are worthy, and if not for Christ we ALL would be born into eternal separation from God, according to God's will; the wages of sin IS DEATH, death to any knowledge of Him.

    Numbers 23; 19, Job 23: 13,  Psalms 90: 2, 129: 16, 139: 16, 147: 5,  Proverbs 19: 20, Isaiah 14: 24, 48: 8, Ephesians 1: 11, 1 John 3: 20, 1 Peter 1: 18-20.+

    Cheers Behold.

Hello Heb 13: 8! It's not that God allows it, He planned it. Yes, God is in control of everything from the smallest to the largest, and uses the will of each of us to accomplish His purpose. Absolutely nothing happens that was not intended by God to happen.

    Thanks for the reply,

I'm glad you had a life changing experience.  For me, I can't say that I've ever had any experience at all.  I guess my question is if someone doesn't have that experience, are they just as saved as someone who does?  Is it possible to live the Christian life entirely on what Jesus did for us or do we need other things, like God's love and presence in our lives?

    Hello JohnKing67! Welcome to Worthy.

Christ's Blood shed on the Cross to pay the wages of sin for all who believe in Him, God's Love and Presence are all one in the same, not exclusive of each other. It is no longer a matter of what you"need" once you become Born Again, but what you should desire; to become Christ like. Yes, it is an impossible goal to achieve on your own, but making every effort to achieve it none the less is more than doable for everyone who believes. You cannot attain that perfection on your own, however if in your heart you are a true believer, try to walk in the Holy Spirit as much as you are able, Christ will bring you to perfection. This is Salvation, God's Love, and His presence in you at all times.

John 14:20 New King James Version (NKJV)

20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

1 John 3:1 New King James Version (NKJV)

    The Command to Love

3 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of [a]God! Therefore the world does not know [b]us, because it did not know Him.

Romans 5:8 New King James Version (NKJV)

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 10:9-10 New King James Version (NKJV)

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Galatians 2:20 New King James Version (NKJV)

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Hope this answers you question JohnKing57

I do not like seeing professed Christians using insults towards anyone. I don't care if they are communists, Muslims, from a rival country, someone you oppose politically or criminals. We are to see each person in the image of God and treat them as such, because that is what Jesus expects. Any justification someone can invent "They deserve it!", "But it's TRUE!", "They do it too!" and so on is completely of no consequence and does not absolve the professed Christian of their willful disregard for the Lords command.

    Mark 12:30-31

About 20 yrs I came to believe that no one dies unless God allows it. I know that can be hard to see but I think it's true. So I guess it was Linda's time to go. I'm starting to get used to her being gone, but she was a good friend even though I only knew her 2 weeks. I have to get past this so I gave up trying to learn how she died.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I certainly need online friends since I have none in person. I'll be posting again soon.

Hello JTC, Consoling a person who is grieving is a very difficult thing to do since losing someone is always a shock and tragedy to cope with.  Through faith, you can at least have the hope you did not lose this friend to death, but to eternal life instead. Pray as well for God to send you a new friend, who is compatible and perhaps even a fellow believer.

As Debp already noted above, you will always have friends here as well to discuss things with you as you wish.

You are correct, no one dies unless it is God's will; our days are numbered.  I think this has to do with the grief God has for each soul lost to sin and enables us to relate to His grief, and therefore His Love for us.

    God heals all wounds.

Psalm 147:3 New King James Version (NKJV)

    He heals the brokenhearted
    And binds up their [a]wounds.

    Preach it brother! :) ✝️

I am often  baffled how pastors ignore swaths of Scriptures from the woes of Pharisees (Matthew 23, whole chapter) to take up your cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23) to the fact we are all a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9-11) and God lives in us (Colossians 1:27, 1 John 4:-5, 1 Corinthians 3:16) to Persecution (John 16:33, Matthew 24:9, 2 Timothy 3:12, Revelation 14:12) to the fact that the Lprd never wanted a building or temple (2 Samuel 7: 1-53, 2 Chronicles  7:1-30, Acts 7:46-51) but has made us His temple (Hebrews 3:6, 1 Timothy 3:15, Ephesians 2:22, 2 Corinthians 6:16, 1 Corinthians 16:19, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 3:9), and that fact we must suffer if we are to share Bis glory (Romans 8:17).

    Add also Matthew 5:20-26 .
