"What things has Jesusauthorisedus to pray for? The thingsin the Lord's prayer: the advance of God's Kingdom, our daily bread (necessities, not luxuries), forgiveness ofour sins, etc. But not much else."
I totally do agree with you. Jesus taught us how to pray.
7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9“This, then, is how you should pray:“ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts,as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
I don't think that is wrong to pray for something else but always remembering not to "put God to test" doing that.
5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
6“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourf down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
7Jesus answered him,“It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
A friend asked me: what does it mean "And I will do whatever you ask in my name"?
