Relevance of the Lord’s Prayer to the born-again believer?
On another forum I was extolling the Lord’s Prayer in in terms of its’ greatness in a post. This is a prayer I have been saying ever since I was a little one.
Another member messaged me privately and put forward the following position regarding the relevance of the prayer to those born-again:
Basically, he quoted Luke 11.1 where one of the Lord’s disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray as John also taught his disciples… Now John was under the Law of Moses; he wasn’t reborn in Christ and did not have the Holy Spirit inside him because Jesus had not died on the cross and rose from the dead yet. So, John would have taught his disciples to pray under the law of Moses, instead of as those under the law of Grace through Faith quoting Eph 2:8.
When compared with the way in which we are taught to pray in the NT, taking the above position into account – is the Lord’s Prayer still relevant to pray for the born-again believer?
