  1. I posted this same thread in US politics but i would like the opinion of non political Christians as well so i posted it here too. I'm torn between the Gospel and politics. Part of me wants to engage in politics but another part of me thinks its wrong. Consider the scripture below, especially the underlined part. Do the affairs of this life include politics? I would think so. Do politics end up in worldly and empty chatter? Does politics dispute with words that leads to the ruin of its listeners? Paul in other scriptures encourages us to be of one mind and one voice, and to have no divisions among us but politics divides us. This to me is just more evidence that politics are wrong for Christians. 2 Timothy 2:2 You therefore, my [a]son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him. 5 And if someone likewise competes as an athlete, he is not [c]crowned as victor unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything 14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly exhort them in the presence of God not to dispute about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the listeners. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who [g]does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for [h]it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like [j]gangrene. 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [a]agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be [c]made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

  3. That reminds me of another scripture. I'm not sure if Paul is saying we share in the benefit of his sufferings or if we will suffer ourselves as well. I do like the part where he talks about trusting in God who raises the dead. Perhaps our sufferings teach us to trust in God as well. 1 Corinthians 13 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are [c]ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. 6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; 7 and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are partners in our sufferings, so also you are in our comfort. 8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of our affliction which occurred in [d]Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. 9 [e]Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 10 who rescued us from so great a danger of death, and will rescue us, He [f]on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us, 11 if you also join in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons in our behalf for the favor granted to us through the prayers of many.
  4. I have felt insulted and hated and it hurt a lot. I talked to the Lord about it and remembered Paul's words about being strong in weaknesses and i then felt joy instead of sorrow.
  5. I'm not sure I understand your question. I think Paul is saying he was blessed for enduring hardship and the beatitudes say the same thing.
  6. I think woman should teach other woman the good things spoken of by the Apostle Paul. Of course it may not be politically correct. Titus 2:3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may [a]encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
  7. I believe this scripture is profound. What do you think? I think it may be very similar to the beatitudes that Jesus gave. Thank you. 2 Corinthians 12:10 Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in [d]insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
  8. James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [a]without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 127 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained [a]by the world.
