What? How do you get Jew or Hebrew even in prophetic terms when Daniel 11 is clearly speaking of hellenistic rule at the hands of the Greek empire (in this case very specifically the Seleucid kingdom whose ruler at the time in verse 37 has been shown by history to be Antiochus E)? I think this is a highly improbable conclusion given the context of the passage of scripture you have quoted! I do not think Daniel 11 can be used for that claim...i dont think this passage of scripture supports it directly. You would need a better reference i think. So, having said that, I am of an open mind, what is your reference to show that Daniel 11:37 is an Israelite/Jew? At present i cant recall a passage of scripture where paganism is linked prophetically with a Jew...are there any references for such a view that would correlate with this text? BTW, are we now all in agreement that the little horn of Daniel 7 and 8 are of the same heritage...or at least have the same goals? We have 24+ pages of replies here i cant recall if there was an agreement reached on the original question? (or are we still debating that point?)

funny you should say that...a text immediately comes to mind... Revelation 18:4 has the phrase "come out of "her" my people!!! where and what do you think the "her" is in this passage of scripture? The following are all quotes from Revelation 18 Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!a "She" has become a lair for demons All the nations have drunkc the wine of the passion of "her" immorality The kings of the earth were immoral with "her" the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy from the extravagance of "her" luxury In fact, this is so very specifically talking about a "her", that gender is used 18 times in just 8 verses in this Chapter!!! I think it is very much an institution...a religious one and not an invidividual as such. (there may be an individual at times manifested as the leader, but the real entity of the A/C is not a human individual its the devil himself!) The reference in Revelation 18 is a parrallel with Exodus Chapter 3 vs 10. God calls his people out of captivity into the promised land! 7The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the affliction of My people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their oppressors, and I am aware of their sufferings. 8I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. 9And now the cry of the Israelites has reached Me, and I have seen how severely the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10Therefore, go! I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt.”f Now if we just simply look at those two things... Captivity = in spiritual terms, we are captive to Satan and to Sin Promised land = in Gentile terms, we modern christians are spiritual Israel. Why? because we are Gentiles were not the original chosen people. We have no historical birthright to that which was given to the Israelites, however, we do have a spiritual right to it and that is the key link here! We are being called out of this world of sin (the Her) into the promised land (which is heaven) by Him (The God of Heaven and Earth).

if they are represented by the same person, how then can that "one" entity give power to someone else who is (as you say) himself? The name game is what i think you are doing in trying to explain away what are very obvious facts that are well supported by the book of Daniel. As Charlie says, everything must agree with the timeline and order of events given in Daniel chapter 2...even the subsequent chapters in the book of daniel. They all ellaborate on the overall picture given in the statue of chapter 2. There is not even the slightest room for movement on that model. The only part of that model that is not specifically given is exactly how long the final period of time (illustrated by the feet of iron and clay that is then struck by the rock formed without hands) takes. Only the Father knows when this will be. You use the words "catching up" for the rapture...i agree. This is exactly how the second coming is described..."we will meet the lord in the air". His feet will not touch the ground. I have an interesting question to ask those who believe also in the additional secret rapture... which part of the coming of the messiah (for there are two listed in the bible) is the secret rapture...the first or the second?
-
To just correct your history...Seventh Day Adventist did not predict the second coming was in 1844. That has never been an SDA doctrine! It has nothing to do with SDA church anymore than the history behind the reformation linking all Christians with Catholicism! Ie we are not catholics! Btw, I am really glad there are other commandment keeping Sabbath keepers here.
-
If I were to keep my answer short and simple... A time where no one world power dominates...some are strong, some brittle. They will not unify anymore than clay mixes with iron. I would argue that is the time we are currently living in ...realistically the time since the pagan Roman Empire broke up a few centuries after Christ.
-
Yep I think this too. With the addition that the manifestation of the A/C happens in the time of the feet of iron and clay...although I believe Charly is right it's not stated in Daniel. We make to connection when moving forward into the book of Revelation. (Which is usually studied with Daniel). I am of the opinion, like Charly says, one can't go straight to Revelation...it does one's head in. I differ a little though in that I believe a deep understanding of the Sanctuary is vital before even starting the book of Daniel
-
Yes good thoughts, however, there is a fundamental problem with your interpretation that needs clarifying...God is described using those same words throughout the Bible (He, Him, I Am, etc) and yet there is strong debate over whether or not he has a body like ours ( most claim he is spirit). So that is not an argument in favour of the A/C being human. What it does describe is the way he manifests or reveals himself. The bottom line...the A/C is Satan himself. This is the Bible teaching...I think we are arguing over scraps here. I think we all agree Satan is top dog of the future A/C narrative.
-
antichrist could not possibly have come yet as Antiochus Epiphanes? The antichrist is not yet revealed in Daniel...he doesn't reveal himself until near the end of time. You all believe he already exists...he is a sentient being...how then can he be human? Clearly he is not human because if he is, the he is almost 3000 years old! It is impossible for the A/C to be a man (or women). Can a human be a representative or the way in which he manifests himself...absolutely. Could he posses a human to achieve that goal...I suppose he could...but one would have to also ask, does he need to?
-
i do believe in a rapture...i think we both agree with that doctrine. To be honest, i think all Christians believe in a rapture...that is part of the Gospel! What i do not agree is that it is a secret! My understanding of the Second Coming of Jesus is that it will be a loud and very public world wide event. "He shall come with a shout", "the blast of trumpets", "Every Eye shall see Him"...there is nothing secret about any of that! What i find highly unusual about the secret theology...people take the passage "he shall come as a thief in the night" to mean it must be secret, stealthy. I wonder if that could also be a translational issue as there are an overwhelming number of other bible passages that clearly refute that interpretation. Anyway, clearly the "thief in the night" text means something different to how its often interpreted! I think the real meaning is that we do not know the day in which our house might be robbed by a thief, so we must always be ready! To put this in second coming terms, it simply means, "no one knows the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man shall come in the clouds of heaven, no one but the Father in Heaven", we should "build our house upon the Rock"...not on the sand! Can i just edit what you said about AE...there is no such doctrine as AE is the Little Horn! It was not a man...it never has been a man, it is never even spoken of as a single man. The historical record for the Seleucid Empire does not even support that view...its just plain wrong! The Little Horn is so much more than an individual...its an idea, a false Gospel. I think that when one studies the prophecies in Daniel, it is very clear that the Little Horn rises out of the Christian Church itself...and what better way to setup and A/C!. This does not mean that men cant be elevated to positions of power of the Little Horn, however, the point is, its a major world influencing power. The reason a lot of Christian denominations claim it [the little horn] is represented by Catholicism is obvious...the combining of Church and State, and then the abuse of power to persecute Gods people during the Dark Ages, more than adequately fulfils that belief! I am not hear to earbash Catholics though, i have an Aunty who is Catholic, she is a wonderful person who attends prayer meeting and also Mass every week. I am actually looking forward to Charlie77 taking this one on and proving that the Little Horn and the A/C are not come out of the Catholic Church. I would love to see a different take on this to the traditional one...I honestly wonder if there is any credibility in the idea that the A/C may not even be denominational!

yep this is absolutely correct Diaste. Almost all of the world kingdoms spoken of in the bible had many kings...this did not necessarily have anything to do with the time that a particular civilisations first king came on the scene. Its a bit of a silly argument to claim oh it cannot be AG because he was not the first king. It highlights however, what i have been trying to say all along...the world powers in Daniel 2 are not kings, they are kingdoms! The same goes for the little horn...those seeking fulfilment of this little horn in an individual are being fooled. It has always been an idea and representatives of that idea, not a single individual. If the little horn was an individual, then clearly we have a problem, because with the outrageous theories being randomly plucked out of thin air and tossed around on this thread, that individual must be 2000 years old by now! I think the biggest problem with some of the statements on this thread are from individuals who are completely confused about the way in which dual prophecies work. Dual prophecies have two time periods in which they are applied. In the case of Daniel, there is the direct correlation with the Jewish exile, but there is also a long distant future application. Thus people get completely muddled up...they forget that and start clutching at all sorts of straws trying to find answers. When an angel says to Daniel, this is about the end of time...its talking about exactly that...then end of time just prior to the second coming of Christ. The book of Daniel did not end in AD 70...the world did not end in AD 70. Almost all proponents of the Antiochus Epiphanes theory seem to land on that date for the coming of the messiah...it is seems to be the only way to make this doctrine work. Then we end up with the ridiculous "secret rapture" doctrine that the Jehovahs Witnesses made up when they simply could not get AD 70 to work! It ends up being so convoluted, so full or errors, one ends up having to write their own twisted bible translation to fix the conflicts...hence i present to you "The New World Translation" as point and example. Best to not try to explain away self evident theology in order to support crazy doctrines. It was not specifically AE who Daniel 8 is talking about...its the Seleucid Kingdom, it was a number of their kings who fulfilled that prophecy. AE was but one of them. Finally, the Seluecid kingdom is part of the Greek empire...I tire of having to repeat this irrefutable historical fact! It is now as self evident as our need for oxygen. One can attempt to deny this all one likes, the reality is 100% self evident!!!! "Seleucus the Victorious") was a Macedonian Greek general, a Diadochi of Alexander the Great and ultimately king who fought for control over his empire after his death" (wikipedia)

Thank goodness for someone with some sensible research...I was starting to think the crazies had taken over for a while there! Spiritualists were running rampant.

Where does it state Assyrian? Where in history can you find evidence in support of such a statement? The king of the North would still fit the Rome area anyway. I dont know if you realise this or not, however, latitude cooordinate for the empire of the A/C in Johns visions in Revelation was to the North...in Constantinople Turkey! The Roman Emperor Constantine made it his capital and this is regarded by many scholars as the time of the prophecy in Revelation regarding the little horn! Turkey is due north of Israel...I can post an image of a map if you like?
-
Actually i dispute that...I would argue that is not in fact true. Most scholars agree that Antiochus Epiphanes was well and truly on the declining end of the Seleucid kingdom...so much so that he in reality could not possibly fulfill all of the prophecy. The truth (which history proves) shows that Antiochus failed in almost everything he did during his reign..the ultimate embarrasment was at the hands of a single Roman politician in Egypt Popilius drew a circle in the sand around the king's feet with the stick he was carrying and said, "Before you step out of that circle give me a reply to lay before the senate." For a few moments he [Antiochus] hesitated, astounded at such a peremptory order, and at last replied, "I will do what the senate thinks right." Having said that, i do agree that AE fulfilled at least part of the prophecy (the defilement of Gods Holy Places) which took place soon after the fiasco in Egypt. My personal belief is that the reign of the "Seleucid kingdom" (of which AE was but one leader) does fulfill Daniel 8. The kingdom was actually at its greatest before his time under the leadership of Antiochus the Great in 200BC (Antiochus III)...approx 3 million sq kilometers. People must stop placing specific leaders names onto the statue in Daniel chapter 2...the statue is not about specific leaders, it is about kingdoms that are to come. If it were about leaders, then future kingdoms would all be over and done with in barely 4 generations...that did not even reach down to the time of Christ, so its not possible to be the correct way to view these visions!

I agree 100% with this Michael...and yet, if you look at the following and note what most translators have done on this its pretty clear there is a big scholarly issue Recall Hebrews 9:3 in order to provide the location within the Sanctuary the writer is now describing... 3Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, Now take a look at the list below of translations for Hebrews 9:4 (exhaustive list of modern translations) and count how many state Alter of Incense vs Censor! I count as follows; Alter of Incense = 19 Censor = 9 I note that of the 9, two are really the same bible translation (ie KJV and NKJV). However, I am of the belief that the KJV has the correct translation on this. Although, in the context of the mention of this in Revelation (ch 4, ch 7, ch 22:3&4), I actually do not think the translational differences even matter. Revelation is illustrating that the curtain/veil is now gone, we are no longer separated from the throne by sin, and thanks to the cloak of Jesus righteousness now wrapped around us, we may all come boldly before the throne! Hebrews 9:4 New International Version which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. New Living Translation In that room were a gold incense altar and a wooden chest called the Ark of the Covenant, which was covered with gold on all sides. there are fundamental reasons why it is not Islam...and why it cannot be Islam. Already discussed this in the past. There is good reason (and history supports this too) as to why the little horn can only come from the 4 specific kingdoms from Daniel 2 (these are historically proven to be Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, and Rome). To help with the issue over Rome, might i suggest that one reflects on the "Dark Ages" where under the direction of the Roman Catholic church, millions of bibles were burned (as well as thousands of apparent heretics who owned them) and approx 10% of the population were able to read. The combination of church and state that resulted in this power welding by Catholocism only came from the pagan Roman empire. That is where the two natures of this vision come from...pagan Rome and papal Rome! Islam has issues, however, realistically it is of no significance to the narrative or prophecies concerning the history of the powers of the end times. If one is going down the pathway of Islam, very soon down that pathway Communism pops up... proponents arguing Communism is the little horn. Trouble is, Islam and Communism are fundamentally opposed for obvious reasons! We are then left with a bigger hole than before...who is it, communism or Islam? The reality is, almost no one takes any notice of an Islamic leader when it comes to economics and religious guidance...western society generally views it as nothing more than a thorn in our sides. The Pope on the other hand, now he has huge world wide influence in almost every corner of the globe and essentially this has been the case for hundreds of years The key to the little horn is found in its nature..."wolf in sheeps clothing". As i have said before, historically there is no secret about the aim of Islam. It has never professed to be Christian...no trickery going on there. The little horn comes out of the Christian church...and what better way to fool the nations than pretend to be something you are not...to infiltrate the very Gospel of Christianity with false doctrines etc! also, the Seleucid kingdom is part of the Macedonian/Greek empire...The bible is ver yclear on this...it is self evident and does not need an enlightened mind to understand this when compared with world history. I do not understand why it is that proponents of the Antiochus Epiphanes theory continue to completely ignore that historical fact! No the idea of the little horn is 100% Greeko-Roman in origin..i say Greeko-Roman because i believe the little horn found in Daniel 7 and 8 and Revelation 13 are not a person...but they most certainly are the same philosophical entity. I find strong evidence for this because: 1. Daniel says in Chapter 8 - 1In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar, a vision appeared to me, Daniel, subsequent to the one that had appeared to me earlier. 2. the nature of the little horn in all 3 visions is identical...it seeks to do exactly the same thing in all three visions...clearly its purpose is the same, therefore it is the same entity! (to be honest that is pretty self evident) Finally, a human drawing of the statue in Daniel 2 standing with one foot in one place, and a second foot in another place, and toes pointing to locations on a map, there is absolutely no evidence in the Daniel vision for this model. One thing that has to be understood about academia, it does not need to provide truth or error rather, its goal is to simply provide evidence to support a point of view. What this means is that there is in fact no right or wrong answer in academia, only what the evidence provided can support! So in this case, that is nothing more than artistic license based on flawed base theory...it is not biblical fact nor is it logically and, more importantly, consistently supported by the historical evidence. I believe that there are huge flaws in that theory that end up contradicting scripture and require explaining away of bible truths in order to make it fit! The worst of it is that we are then left with enormous holes in theology that cannot be explained...the answer then becomes "we just dont know enough yet to explain that". Where have we heard that statement before? Evolutionary science in it efforts to explain where the energy and matter came from that started the big bang! (they actually dont know yet)

Can satan and other demons take on a human form and live among us?
adamjedgar replied to Ervin P's topic in Spiritual Warfare
and you use that for your theory that demons are disembodied spirits? Can i ask you to define what a spirit is? Can i ask you to define what an angel is? then please explain the difference between the above two? finally, explain what an "embodied" spirit looks like in its invisible form? what you are presenting is a circular reasoning that is self defeating! A disembodied spirit and a spirit are exactly the same thing...and it does not matter whether evil or good! Finally, there is the often made claim, and its false and also non biblical, that nephilim are fallen angels...or offspring of fallen angels. Unfortunately, this is in direct contrast with the bible story about why God made man different from the Angels...angels cannot procreate but man and animals can! (i have had this discussion at great length on other forums before...and proven it so many times it would need to start a new thread to be honest). Here is a short problem with the theory about Nephilim being fallen angels or their offspring... 1. the claim is, the physical size came about because they are born of angel genome 2. God sent the flood to wipe them and their offspring out because they are an abomination to him if the above is true, please explain the following... sons of Anak who lived in the land of Canaan many many centuries AFTER THE FLOOD supposedly killed all of them out. We know they were most certainly NOT in the ark with Noah and his sons or wives! Goliah of Gath...a giant in the philistine camp...who was also related to the sons of Anak! If God stopped all this "fallen angel procreating with earthly women" nonsense at the flood, how do you then explain the continued existence of giants long after the flood? What i am now going to hear from proponents of this ridiculous theory is the following... "oh the flood wasnt a global one!" Once we believe the flood was not global, the bible starts to be unravelled at every turn where there are inconsistencies...such as the young earth doctrine...evolution must now be true, the earth is millions of years old! (see how the acceptance of very poorly supported bible heresies, such as Nephilim are fallen angels or their offspring, force the adoption of other false doctrines!) The bible goes to great lengths to explain to God's people the dangers of unequal yoking (marrying outside ones faith). Indeed many Christian churches today even maintain this line in their own fundamental doctrines...some wont even marry members where one is outside the faith! 1Now when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them, 2the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose. 3So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever,a for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.” 4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and afterward as well—when the sons of God had relations with the daughters of men. And they bore them children who became the mighty men of old, men of renown. The sons of God are the sons of Seth...they were holy people who worshipped God and did not forsake him as did the sons of Cain! The offspring to this unholy alliance, the unequal yoking of holy and unholy in marriage, were an abomination to God's people and the way of life he wished for them...it continues to be thus even today. We should never marry outside our faith! To God, marriage is the most sacred bond between human beings...it is considered as sacred as our bond to our creator. The bounding of evil and holy is not acceptable to God and if one was to look at the world around, there are numerous very sad stories that have arisen as a result of this unequal yoking between christian and non christian...evil has a far greater tendency to corrupt than Good i think...the end of this world i think will also be dependant on how bad the corruption gets just as much as "spreading the gospel to the whole world"! One has to tread very carefully in taking for granted that age old historical wives tales about the Nephilim, presented to us by catholicism, is bible truth. It is not! Its very important when developing bible doctrine to ensure that one does not then need to start explaining away other "self evident bible truths" in order to maintain that false one! -

That doesn't even make any sense. -
If you were to recall your history...https://romecorruptedchristianity.wordpress.com/2013/07/02/a-time-when-the-bible-was-banned-and-burned/ “During the Dark Ages (A.D. 500-1500), Rome burned Bibles along with their owners.” A TIME WHEN THE BIBLE WAS BANNED AND BURNED – By The Apostate Christian Church "Many people are unaware of the fact that there was a long period of time, when the Church of Christendom – forbid the reading of the Bible." "Not only did she forbid the reading of the Bible, but she also forbid having posession of a Bible in one’s own home." "These were called the “Dark Ages” for obvious reasons. The Apostate Church of Christendom was at the peak of her power, and was afraid that if her subjects owned and read Bibles, that they might question some of the Church’s actions and teachings." “During the Dark Ages (A.D. 500-1500), Rome burned Bibles along with their owners.” -The Baptist Pillar CANADA’S ONLY TRUE BAPTIST PAPER Published by Bible Baptist Church "This was a time, when not only was the Bible banned, but literacy in general was prohibited and frowned upon. Very few people during this time knew how to read or write. Again, the Apostate Church was determined that the less knowledge that people had, the more easy it would be to rule them. " “Only ten percent of people in the Roman Empire could read… and those were generally in the wealthy upper classes.” -River of God, Gregory J. Riley, pp. 66 The Church admits this in her own Laws : “Canon 14. We prohibit also that the laity should not be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.” – The Church Council of Toulouse 1229 AD I knew this period in history before my parents even became Christian.

yes but the writer of the book of Hebrews, and this is also clearly the view of many translations (with the exception of the KJV), is that the Alter of Incense is in the MHP! So either the writer of the book of hebrews is just plain wrong or, something else is going on here...and that is my point and reasoning behind my theory.
