Stirring the Waters, Not the Pot.
FriendofJonathan replied to Dennis1209's topic in General Discussion
Thanks @kwikphilly. That's all I've been saying all along.. But my spirit informs me that, since I lean toward reformed theological biblical teachings, and the vast majority here seem to have a disdain for reformed theology, that their disdain is also for those that lean in the reformed direction. Not all, but most. Just my opinion. I'm not shaken by it, but a bit stirred (as 007 would say). Thanks. -

If John 5:4 is not in any manuscripts until the late 6th early 7th century, what proof do you have for the assertion that it was common knowledge? -

Since I did not call the John 5:4 passage a lie, I'll simply say: caution should be given to the one whose reaction is without deliberate thought and self-control. -
Angels are created beings. Therefore they had a beginning. We know there was a beginning, and that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and all things therein. (Genesis 1:1, 31; John 1:1-3). Which day in the beginning were the angels created? We aren't told. What we are told is that after the sixth day of creation, "the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the hosts of them." (Genesis 2:1). Angels are referred to as hosts of heaven (Luke 2:13, 15). Therefore, angels must have been created in the beginning. When God asks Job where he was when God "laid the foundations of the earth", God does give us a hint at the timing of the creation of angels when God asks Job a series of questions. Beginning in the second question in Job 38:4, God asks: "Where were you when ...", after which God asks some followup questions attached to "Where were you when..." Then we get to Job 38:7, which indicates that the sons of God (angels) were present during crestion, but not before the beginning of creation itself. Why? Because we are given information in Genesis 1:1 that there was an order in creation: heavens are first in order and earth is next. Therefore, at the very same moment of creating the heavens did God create the angels (the hosts of heaven), which were then present to watch and shout for joy as God continued and finished creating the earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, and everything else in the six days of creation.

If you read my post, I'm not insuating anything. I'm only giving an exhortation. You would know this if you understood what colons are in grammar and why they're used in writing. -
I was not quoting you. I quoted @FreeGrace. I Have no idea why your profile name is in the quote. Not my doing.

What if the manuscript evidence shows that Matt. 5:4 was a scribes side note and not included in the autograph. Since we are talking about the teaching of sacred scripture, should it be taught at all if v4 was not part of the original ? -

If you're teaching on John 5:4, teach the truth: that its text does not appear in the earliest Greek NT manuscripts. -

Could elaborate on what you mean here? Or is there a different way you could ask your question? -
Unity in spirit and unity in faith are absolutely essential, because there is only one Spirit and one Faith. But what about other doctrines. Is unity in the doctrines of end times essential, or of the doctrines on age and method of baptism, or of the doctrine of fasting, or doctrines on the order of salvation, or doctrines on Mary, the mother of Jesus, et alia?

In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity. Philip Schaff, the distinguished nineteenth-century church historian, calls the saying in our title “the watchword of Christian peacemakers.” Often attributed to great theologians such as Augustine, it comes from an otherwise undistinguished German Lutheran theologian of the early seventeenth century, Rupertus Meldenius. The phrase occurs in a tract on Christian unity written (circa 1627) during the Thirty Years War (1618–1648), a bloody time in European history in which religious tensions played a significant role. The saying has found great favor among subsequent writers such as Richard Baxter, and has since been adopted as a motto by the Moravian Church of North America and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Might it serve us well as a motto for every church and for every denomination today? (Author Mark Ross, Ligonier.org: a partial transcrpt)

What are the most controversial topics between Christians?
FriendofJonathan replied to Marston's topic in General Discussion
Amen. You can profess to know all the biblical doctrine there is to know, and recite scripture after scripture to advance your knowledge of doctrine. But unless you know and havr faith in Jesus Christ, all your knowledge of doctrine won't save you. -

Careful who you listen to on TV. There's lots of false teachers and preachers that care only about getting rich off of easily influenced folk. -
Spiritual Warfare! Offensive? Defensive?
FriendofJonathan replied to St_Worm2's topic in Spiritual Warfare
Hello brother. When we read and think about putting on the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6, we need remember that when God saved us He has prepared us for battle, and the armor we take to battle is from God, all of which is both defensive and offensive. -
I recently got Morning by Morning and enjoying it.

And so is the NT. Jesus prophesied in MML&J His own death burial and resurrection and the things that would happen in 70 AD and the lsst days. John in Revelation prophesied the things that will happen in the last days. If you think there are modern day prophets that have been given revelation from God, where are they? Who are they?
