  1. It is good to go back and watch it with sub titles so you can read all the words that are not understandable on the first view.  (at least for some of us older hard of hearing folks  )

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I love closed captioning. If only Star Wars 3 at the cinema had had closed captioning on! Now I have to wait till Nov to get the dvd and figure out what those people were saying!

  2. Oh you guys.. I am so sorry for all of your problems.... I have to be honest that i dont' think it is just VA but MD too.. if not other states ...

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I could be wrong, but when I read the original post, I assumed that 'VA' stood for 'Veterans Administration' rather than for Virginia.

  3. Yes, it is possible to get pregnant after a miscarriage. I met a lady online who had a baby after 5 miscarriages. I've also spoken with couples who got pregnant again the first month after a miscarriage. How long it will take for you, I don't know. But it's possible.

The LORD is the one who opens and closes the womb. So I would suggest you pray a lot, and then just leave it all in HIS hands and trust HIS will and HIS timing on everything.

    Hope that's a help.

    :)

  4. What is unusual about the paragraph below?

"Gatsby was walking back from a visit down in Branton Hill's manufacturing district on a Saturday night. A busy day's traffic had had its noisy run; and with not many folks in sight, His Honor got along without having to stop to grasp a hand, or talk; for a mayor out of City Hall is a shining mark for any politician. And so, coming to Broadway, a booming bass drum and sounds of singing, told of a small Salvation Army unit carrying on amidst Broadway's night shopping crowds. Gatsby, walking towards that group, saw a young girl, back toward him, just finishing a long, soulful oration ... "

The above passage is taken from the book "Gatsby" written by Ernest Vincent Wright in the late 1930's

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Oh, I forgot to answer this one.

I don't know how the author was able to put his own name on this one (or if he did), but the odd thing about this paragraph (and the entire book, if I understand correctly) - is that there are no letter e's in it.

Very difficult, considering that 'e' is the most commonly used letter in the English language. For example, it's pretty hard to avoid using the word 'the.'

  5. I second the 'don't be alone together' advice.

Also, our actions start in our thoughts. I like this passage:

2Cor 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

    5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I try to jump on any 'bad' thoughts right away, as soon as they pop into my head. Kind of like roping and hogtying that thing! And I find it takes practice too, to pay attention and notice what thoughts are popping into my head.

Certain things such as particular movies, songs, books (romance novels, for example) can trigger off lustful thoughts. Try to pay attention to the things that are triggers for you - and avoid them like the plague.

    Hope that's a help.

  6. I read the book in question a lot of years ago, so I don't remember very well what happened in it. I do recall finding it disturbing, at least to my Baptist-raised soul. I don't remember exactly what about the einding disturbed me, as I don't remember the ending anymore. What I do remember clearly is the part towards the beginning where 'Joshua' made a statue of Moses for a church (or synagogue?). It disturbed me, in that I found that to be rather close to breaking the 2nd Commandment.

In the book, 'Joshua' is never explicitly identified as the LORD Jesus Christ - but that identity is implied all through the book.

That's my take on it, from having read it quite a while back.

*edit - why do I never catch all my typos till after I hit the post button???*

  7. Regarding the question 'What is a spirit?' - I recalled the following verse:

Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

    Hope that's a help.

  8. I have a house.

    My house has four walls.

In the center of each wall, there is a window.

    Each window faces south.

One day, while I was eating dinner,

    I looked out my window.

I saw a bear walk by.

    What color was the bear?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I know the answer!! But I won't tell.

Another question from that... where is the house?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If you've ever seen the movie 'Young Sherlock Holmes.' Holmes poses this riddle to Watson, and Watson spends the rest of the movie guessing colors at intervals. He finally guesses the right color - but only because it was the only color left.

So... I too know the color... and know why, and where the house is. But do I tell???

    :)

  9. Well, since it seems all those have been answers, I guess I'll fire off a few riddles....

    -----

    I eat but never swollow.

    I consume but never chew.

I have no teeth, I have no stomach.

    But I can desolve steel.

    What am I?

    -----

    I become fat without eating,

    I become pregnant without conceiving.

    I am high and mighty

    Feirce in power

And when my wrath is poured out

    I can wash you away

    What am I?

    -----

here's the one that Homer apparently killed himself with because he couldn't answer. I don't expect any of you to get it either... but it should leave you scratching your head (a wee bit of a hint there).

Riddle spoken by a Greek fisherman:

"What we caught we threw away. What we didn't catch, we kept."

    What is it?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't know the middle one, but for the first one, my guess is 'rust' - and for the second, 'fleas.'

    :online2long:

  10. I believe you :b:

    Try THIS one.....hehehehe

Using only one horizontal line, turn this lO lO lO into this 950

    hehehehe

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Hehehe!

The horizontal line goes on top of the middle l, changing it into the letter T. It becomes lO TO lO, which is the same as the time 9:50.

  11. Just wonderin where the Cub's fans are on here?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

They must have a time machine, because they are waiting until "next year."

    :)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

"Next year in the World Series!"

    :):blink::)

  12. #1

George, Helen, and Steve are drinking coffee.

Bert, Karen, and Dave are drinking soda.

Using logic, is Elizabeth drinking coffee or soda?

    #2

Only one color, but not one size,

Stuck at the bottom, yet easily flies.

Present in sun, but not in rain,

Doing no harm, and feeling no pain.

    What is it.

    For #1:

Well... George, Helen, and Steve are all Greek names. Elizabeth is Greek, but it's a Greek version of a Hebrew name. So....

    And for #2:

    The answer is: a shadow.

  13. Here's one for you:

What is more evil than the devil...

    more loving than God...

& if you eat it you will surely die?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I've also heard included in this riddle 'The rich need it; the poor have it.'

    The answer is: Nothing.

  14. Some years ago, on a Christian radio station, there was a commercial regarding the so-called Bible code. The end of the commercial ran something like this:

1st guy: ... so if you take every 5th letter of John 3:16, you get the word finglehertz! Which is Swedish! For cold spaghetti!! That means something!!!!!

2nd guy: Will you just read the plain verse?

  15. It is all so very sad. However, unless that man had been living under a rock (so to speak), he surely knew about the recent bombings. He surely knew that a bulky coat such as he was wearing would make him look like a suicide bomber.

As for the police' point of view - if someone is suspected of being a bomber, to shoot them through the chest would be to risk triggering the explosive, wouldn't it? And to shoot to merely bring the suspect down would still leave the suspect with the ability to trigger the bomb. The only way to deal with someone who might be wearing a bomb, sadly, is to act with deadly force, so as to prevent the bomber from setting off the explosive.

I hadn't heard that the man had jumped a turnstyle. I can see why that only increased the officers' suspicions that they had another terrorist about to bomb the subway.

So very sad. But I think the police did act properly, given what they knew and what they suspected.
