Keep in mind that the shooter had been adopted. Likely his adoptive parents (both of whom have died; the mom last Nov, the dad some time before) had the last name Cruz, but what the shooter's ethnicity is, I don't know.

The home part was planned; the alone part was not. Our birth attendant was also in late pregnancy and couldn't come at the last minute. All went well. (This was not our first home birth, so I'm sure that made a difference.)

Hey, great! I've had a few home births too (and a Home Alone birth, like you!).

Since the eclipse was supposed to be take place over the Pacific, I didn't figure I would see it from here in Texas. But this morning when I had to go out before dawn to take the trash bin down to the curb, I turned around to look up at the sky - and there it was, low in the west, a bright moon with only about a third of it shining! Lovely sight!

I particularly like the big brother one.

Not so long ago my kids and I went to a store. They took off to look at other stuff, and when I was ready to leave, I texted their phone to let them know.

I had barely sent the text when I heard a jingly-jangly sound.

Btw, I've been told that the reason the Burgess Meredith Penguin made that 'waa-waa-waa' noise was because Mr Meredith had quit smoking some years before, and having to smoke while playing the role kept giving him coughing fits. In order to avoid ruining take after take, he started 'waa-waaing' to cover up the coughing fits. Or that's what I've been told.

Hey, Aimes! We had snow in far south Texas too!

I think O Henry's point was that they loved each other so much, they each sacrificed their greatest treasure to get something wonderful for the other. (Personally, I think they should see if they can return the gifts, then use the money to get something for both of them together. Or else save the money.)

Here's the thing: if Paul is saying that the woman's covering is her hair, then what are we to make of his earlier assertion here?

1 Cor 11

⁴ Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

⁵ But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

If the woman's covering is hair, does that mean that men who are not bald are dishonoring their head?

(It was that thought that helped bring me to the conviction to cover my head. YMMV.)
