  1. Jennifer Wilbanks, Teach Us to Pray By David Sisler May 3, 2005 (AgapePress) - That Jennifer Wilbanks was found alive and well is cause for relief. That the runaway bride was not charged with criminal stupidity at the least, or for giving a false report to the police, at the most, is cause for head scratching. But the issue which brings me to the word processor today is, lessons on prayer as taught by the man who was to perform her wedding, the Reverend Alan Jones. The Rev. Mr. Jones said they were all praying, "Let her be a runaway bride." She was found -- a runaway bride. "So," Jones said, "God was faithful." And boy that chaps my old control-alt-delete. We have made God into a puppet. Or worse, a vending machine. Pull His strings, and He dances. Put a request in the slot, push the button, and He delivers. If He does what we asked, He is faithful. And if He does not? God is faithful whether or not He does what I ask Him to do. God is faithful whether Jennifer Wilbanks was a victim of cold feet, or the victim of a cold-blooded killer. When Job had more money than anyone in his neighborhood, God was faithful. When Job's entire fortune was wiped out, God was faithful. When Job had ten children, God was faithful. When Job stood by ten fresh graves, God was faithful. Totally misunderstanding where the attacks on his family originated, and perhaps never understanding the reason for those attacks, Job said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord." And then the God-inspired author shouted, "In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong!" (Job 1:22-23). What did you say, Job? God is faithful! When Job's health was assaulted, his wife told him that his integrity had failed to protect him and therefore he should abandon it, Job said, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks." How's that Job? God is faithful! "Shall we accept good from God," he asked his wife, "and shall we not accept adversity?" (Job 2:10). Did the heroes of faith of Hebrews 11 ask for deliverance when they were persecuted? You bet your soft-soled sandals they did. Was God unfaithful because they were "tortured ... had trial of mockings and scourgings ... chains and imprisonment ... [when they] were stoned ... sawn in two .. slain with the sword ... [and were] destitute, afflicted, [and] tormented"? (Hebrews 11:35-37) You bet your soft-soled sandals He was not. Josh Long and Troy Driscoll were fishing in a sail boat without a sail on April 25 when a riptide swept them out to sea. When they were rescued a week later, Eddie Long, Josh's father, said, "We always held out there was going to be a miracle." Thank God -- He sent a rescue boat. If the two teenagers had died, would God have been unfaithful? The Psalmist said, "And those who know your name will put their trust in you; For you, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you" (Psalm 9:10). Does He answer every prayer we pray, every seeking of His face, with, "Yes?" No. Is He faithful? Yes? Connected with the idea of faithfulness is the idea of trust. When we decide that a "No" answered prayer violates us, we decide that we cannot trust God. At that point He ceases to be faithful and becomes untrustworthy. In Gethsemane, Jesus uttered the greatest prayer ever prayed: "Father, let this cup pass from me!" The answer to that prayer was, "No, Son. You must drink the cup!" And that denial of Jesus' heart-felt, sweat-drenched, blood-covered prayer was a demonstration of the faithfulness of the Lord God Almighty. Why would we think that a God who dances to our tune is a God we can trust? Why would we think that a God who works His sovereign will in our lives, regardless of our wishes, is a God we cannot trust? Do you think that every prayer you conclude with the words, "In Jesus' name," guarantees the positive answer to that prayer? It does not! And when God does not answer that prayer, does He prove himself unfaithful? The clear message of all of Jesus' teaching about prayer is that when we are properly asking in His name, we are asking the same thing He would ask. If He would not ask that prayer himself, then He won't answer that prayer from us, no matter what mantra we chant. And it is time we grow up and learn that. His faithfulness is never more apparent than when He says, "No. That is not My will for you. Trust Me." To teach otherwise is to rob God of His sovereignty, and to rob us of our security. God is faithful, even if He breaks my heart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Sisler's newspaper column -- "Not For Sunday Only" -- is in its 15th year of weekly publication. 2. I Remember reading about the 1925 Scopes trail, and learning the fact that the Christians at that trial, could not answer the questions that was put to them by the defense, for those of us unfamiliar with this trial, it concerned a young teacher who began to teach evolution in the class room. The teacher was taken to court to stop the teaching from taking place, based on the fact, that the Christians that were on trial lacked answers to some of the questions, the Media, announced the Scopes Trial as a victory for the Evolutionists. There fore evolution began its teachings in the public schools. Fast forward to the 21st century, and I believe Christians have learned a valuable lesson out of this. I began to study a little after getting, asked question on several websites, that I couldn't answer. Many years have passed now, and several things I have learned to do. 1. It doesn't matter if someone asks a question that I can't answer. I will just be honest and tell them I don't know the answer, to pretend to know the answer when I don't, will just make me look like an unbeliever. I won't want to give our faith a black eye. 2. speaking of faith, I will hold on to my faith even if I don't know the answer to the question, Because Gods word is infallible. 3. I've also learned through the years, If I can't answer a question, or the answer to the question I can't answer seems to favor on the side of the unbeliever, I just go, and study it for myself (using Christian resources). And if the Christian authors don't know the answer to the questions, I just give the science or what ever it is I'm studying a few years to catch up. For in the end, the truth will always side with the Bible. Love and peace your servant in Christ Jesus Bob
  3. Hi everyone, I have a correction to make, Sorry I accidently put AnswersinGenesis.com as my source for this article, However I do visit Answers often, but I also visit another site drdino.com, and got the two mixed up. so the source is Drdino.com I made the proper corrections in the orginal post above Thanks Bob
  4. Hi, everyone, I was reading the post last year on the speed of light, and came across this article, I thought I would post it. enjoy.... sources: drdino.com If the earth is only 6,000 years old, how do we see stars billions of light years away? Answer: This is one of the most commonly asked questions and deserves a good answer. Below is first a short answer then a more thorough answer. There are three things we need to consider when answering the starlight question. 1.scientists cannot measure distances beyond 100 light years accurately. 2.No one knows what light is or that it always travels the same speed throughout all time, space and matter. 3.The creation was finished or mature when God made it. Adam was full-grown, the trees had fruit on them, the starlight was visible, etc. Let me elaborate on these 3 points. First, no one can measure star distance accurately. The farthest accurate distance man can measure is 20 light years (some textbooks say up to 100), not several billion light years. Man measures star distances using parallax trigonometry. By choosing two measurable observation points and making an imaginary triangle to a third point, and using simple trigonometry, man calculates the distance to the third point. The most distant observation points available are the positions of the earth in solar orbit six months apart, say June and December. This would be a base for our imaginary triangle of 186,000,000 miles or 16 light minutes. There are 525,948 minutes in a year. Even if the nearest star were only one light year away (and it isn?t), the angle at the third point measures .017 degrees. In simpler terms, a triangle like this would be the same angle two surveyors would see if they were standing sixteen inches apart and focusing on a third point 8.24 miles away. If they stayed 16 inches apart and focused on a dot 824 miles away, they would have the same angle as an astronomer measuring a point 100 light years away. A point 5 million light years away is impossible to figure with trigonometry. The stars may be that far away but modern man has no way of measuring those great distances. No one can state definitively the distance to the stars. The stars may indeed be billions of light years away, but man cannot measure those distances. Several other methods such as luminosity and red shift are employed to try to guess at greater distances but all such methods have serious problems and assumptions involved. For a more complex and slightly different answer to the star light question from a Christian perspective, see the book Starlight and Time by Russell Humphry available from www.icr.org. Second, the speed of light may not be a constant. It does vary in different media (hence the rainbow effect of light going through a prism) and may vary in different places in space. The entire idea behind the black hole theory is that light can be attracted by gravity and be unable to escape the great pull of these imaginary black holes. No one knows what light is let alone that its velocity has been the same all through time and space. Since atomic clocks use the wavelength of the Cesium 133 atom as a standard of time, if the speed of light is decaying, the clock would be changing at the same rate and therefore not be noticed. On February 18, 1999, Houston Chronicle ran an article on page 10A about a Danish Physicist, Dr. Hau working at Harvard, being able to slow down light by cooling it. They cool it to fifty-billionths of a degree above absolute zero -459.67. The light was slowed down to 38 MPH! In Dallas Morning News on 2-28-2000 the article says they have now slowed it to 1 MPH! See also New Scientist, July 24, 1999 pp. 28-32 and Science News, June 9, 1984, p.359 for more on gravity effecting light. "Eureka! Scientists break speed of light", Jonathan Leake, Science Editor, Sunday Times [uK] June 4, 2000. UNITED STATES SCIENTISTS claim they have broken the ultimate speed barrier: the speed of light. In research carried out in the United States, particle physicists have shown that light pulses can be accelerated to up to 300 times their normal velocity of 186,000 miles per second. The work was carried out by Dr Lijun Wang, of the NEC research institute in Princeton, who transmitted a pulse of light towards a chamber filled with specially treated cesium gas. The achievement is a landmark feat that, by reining in nature's swiftest and most ethereal form of energy for the first time, could help realize what are now theoretical concepts for vastly increasing the speed of computers and the security of communications. Two independent teams of physicists have achieved the result, one led by Dr. Lene Vestergaard Hau of Harvard University and the Rowland Institute for Science in Cambridge, Mass., and the other by Dr. Ronald L. Walsworth and Dr. Mikhail D. Lukin of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, also in Cambridge. During the last 300 years, at least 164 separate measurements of the speed of light have been published. Sixteen different measurement techniques were used. "A shocking possibility is that the speed of light might change in time during the life of the universe." Dr. Joao Magueijo of Imperial College London www.Sunday-times.co.uk 12-24-2000 The atomic clock. In 1956, following several years of work, two astronomers at the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) and two astronomers at the National Physical Laboratory (Teddington, England) determined the relationship between the frequency of the Cesium atom (the standard of time) and the rotation of the Earth at a particular epoch. As a result, they defined the second of atomic time as the length of time required for 9 192 631 770 cycles of the Cesium atom at zero magnetic field. The second thus defined was equivalent to the second defined by the fraction 1 / 31 556 925.9747 of the year 1900. Third, the creation account states that God made light before He made the sun, moon, or stars. The rest of creation was mature, so starlight was probably mature at creation as well. I would ask the question, How old was Adam when God made him? Obviously he was zero years old. But how old did he look? He was a full-grown man. The trees were full-grown with fruit on them the first day they were made. The creation had to be that way; it would not work otherwise. Stars and their light were made at the same time. The God that I worship is not limited by anything involving time, space or matter. Finally, I would also like to point out that the evolutionists have no answer to the basic questions like; Where did the original matter space and energy come from for the stars? I suspect God built the universe so we would say "Wow!" When we see the stars we should be reminded of the glory of God not evolution. See Psalms 8.
  5. Just a couple of days ago, me, and my wife were going to a restarunt to grab a bite to eat. We had just gotten a little extra money, and were able to fix the house, and truck up a little before moving to texas, for my new counciling job At first she was having some doubts about God's calling on my life, and one morning she expressed them to me. I just said "Honey I don't know where the train is going, but I know who drives the train, and If God really did tell us to pack up, and move to Texas, then he will provide the way". We had a lot of house repairs, and a pickup truck that needed repair, these repairs would run into the thousands of dollars, which we really didn't have the money. That same day a check came in the mail, from a past business venture, that allowed us to get some repair on the house done, then 2 more checks came in, and the money just keeps coming in, from unexpected places. She looked at me and said " Well I guess it's Gods will " Now granted me and the mrs, are not what you would call rich. And when we get a little extra money her eyes light up, and she starts talking about how she's going to spend it. She starts dreaming of a bigger house, and a brand new SUV, and alot of nice things, which I myself wouldn't mind to have. And I start going off talking about all the nice material things I'd like to have. You would think that we were two over sized kids telling santa claus what we wanted for Christmas LOL. Then the Lord begins to pull me back to earth a bit, And I just remember what Solomon said: I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity. I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it? I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards: I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits: I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees: I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done. Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness. The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. 1st Timothy 5-7 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And Jesus said: in Matthew 6:24-33 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. And Just then I realized, that my eyes had gotten off the real reason, for why I was here on this planet called earth, I was to proclaim the gospel, Love God with all my heart, and Love my neighbor as myself, For Jesus gives me peace not as the world gives peace, with its materialistic lies, for I know that If I had a bigger truck, a bigger house, I would still want more. now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having things, it's only when we put those things before God, that one gets off course. Jesus provided for us, so don't you worry, he will also provide for you. God Bless Bob
  6. Todays study is about the fact that the Israelites approximately 5000 yrs. ago had available to them superior medical knowledge which Moses brought down from God at Mt. Sinai. This study also shows that no other civilization at the time had such knowledge. Enjoy!! Ignaz Semmelweis Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis (July 1, 1818 - August 13, 1865) was the Hungarian physician who demonstrated that puerperal fever (also known as "childbed fever") was contagious and that its incidence could be drastically reduced by enforcing appropriate hand-washing behavior by medical care-givers. He made this discovery in 1847 while head of the Maternity Department of the Vienna Lying-in Hospital. The establishment's failure to recognize his findings earlier led to the tragic and unnecessary death of thousands of young mothers, but he was ultimately vindicated. A typical case where scientific progress was slowed down by the professionals apparatus. In Vienna, Semmelweis was considered a foreigner and later in his career moved back to neighboring Hungary. Semmelweis was responsible for two birthing pavilions, and realized that the number of cases of puerperal fever was much larger at one than at the other. In fact, in one pavilion, very few women survived childbirth, while in the other, most women survived. This was a known fact and the women rather gave birth to their children on the street than being brought into the death-pavilion. He pondered the situation, and found that the only difference was that the fatal pavilion was staffed by student doctors, while the benign pavilion was staffed by midwives. Both used the same techniques. After testing a few hypotheses, Semmelweis finally concluded that the difference could only be attributable to the fact that the medical students were handling corpses before attending the women. He found that the number of cases was drastically reduced if the doctors washed their hands carefully before dealing with a pregnant woman. The germ theory of disease had not yet been developed at the time. Thus, Semmelweiss concluded that some unknown "cadaveric material" caused childbed fever. He lectured publicly about his results in 1850, but the reception by the medical community was cold, if not hostile. His observations went against the current scientific opinion of the time, which blamed diseases (among other quite odd causes) on an imbalance of the basical "humours" in the body. His superior at the Hospital tried to suppress his ideas for egoistic reasons. It was also argued that even if his findings were correct, washing one's hands each time before treating a pregnant woman, as Semmelweis advised, would be too much work. Nor were doctors eager to admit that they had caused so many deaths; indeed, they tended to claim that their profession was one divinely blessed and thus their hands could not be dirty. Semmelweis spent 14 years developing his ideas and lobbying for their acceptance, culminating in a book he wrote in 1861, after introducing and verifying the practical success of his methods. The book received poor reviews, and he responded with polemic. In 1865 he suffered a nervous breakdown and was committed to an insane asylum where he soon died from blood poisoning. It was a last cynical irony that he was brought down by an infection, that he lifelong and indeed bitterly fought against. Only after Dr. Semmelweis's death was the germ theory of disease developed, and he is now recognized as a pioneer of antiseptic policy and prevention of nosocomial disease. 7. All right, you intrepid, privacy-loving Texans -- it's time once again to show the rest of the country what you're made of. You're in the spotlight as the test case for the government to see if it can get away with spychipping cars! A bill in the Texas House of Representatives would require an embedded RFID tag to be placed on your windshield, within your mandatory inspection sticker. The sticker could be read from over 30 feet away by government reader devices that can function like gestapo-style invisible checkpoints -- ID'ing all Texas vehicles as they pass. Along with requiring this device in your cars, the government could hide reader devices in the roads to monitor all cars entering a given neighborhood, driving into a given parking lot, or even just heading down the open road. Your ability to travel anonymously is at stake, but you can win this one if you fight it! 12. Hi, I'd just like to add my 2cents in. I would like to suggest first to a line yourself with the word of God, as far as your actions are concerned. I like to call 1st Corinthians:7 The marriage chapters It gave me some insights into the marriage responsibilties. Ephesians 5:20-33 is also good. Pray everyday for your spouse, that the Lord will reveal to him, his need to change. remember, he (your husband is not the enemy), Ephesians 6:11-12, satan will also use a persons past, and family background to try and mess them up. there's an old saying divide and conquer. If you don't see results right away, just stand your ground, in prayer every day don't miss one day. I will be glad to stand with you in prayer. also tell your husband everyday, how much you need him, and Love him, men love to hear that. Also make sure that you ask your husband for forgiveness of anything that you have done to hurt him, and then ask the Lord to forgive you of any hurt you may have done to him. Also: make a firm decision to forgive him yourself, don't harbor any bitterness toward you husband, if you do ask God to take it away. And If you can get him to, Do some of the things you used to do together when you were dating. And some Christian Counciling couldn't hurt either. God Bless Praying for you sister Bob

U.S. Takes Back Authority Over Sentences for Aliens by Keith Peters, Washington, D.C., correspondent Bush administration withdraws from international agreement regarding sentences given to criminals who are not U.S. citizens. The Bush administration is withdrawing from an agreement that gives an international court jurisdiction over the United states in reviewing sentences meted out to aliens. Some observers say the president is reasserting American constitutional authority over our laws. The United States originally complied with the World Court decision to review the sentences of 51 Mexicans because they were not informed of their right to consult with their country's diplomats. Douglas Kmiec, a law professor at Pepperdine University, said American courts should enforce American law. "They administer it pursuant to the rights and protections of the American constitution," he said, "and it is not to be subverted or added to or changed in any respect by international precept." Judge Robert Bork said some recent Supreme Court decisions citing international law may have been a factor in the president's decision

  16. This is what troubles me most about the pre-trib position. I can sum it up with these verses: 2 Tim 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. I do not say this lightly. Please examine the following verses regarding TEMPTATION: Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Luke 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. Luke 22:46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. The word "temptation" comes from the Greek: 3986 peirasmos {pi-ras-mos'} from 3985; TDNT - 6:23,822; n m AV - temptation 19, temptations 1, try 1; 21 1) an experiment, attempt, trial, proving 1a) trial, proving: the trial made of you by my bodily condition, since condition served as to test the love of the Galatians toward Paul (Gal. 4:14) 1b) the trial of man's fidelity, integrity, virtue, constancy 1b1) an enticement to sin, temptation, whether arising from the desires or from the outward circumstances 1b2) an internal temptation to sin 1b2a) of the temptation by which the devil sought to divert Jesus the Messiah from his divine errand 1b3) of the condition of things, or a mental state, by which we are enticed to sin, or to a lapse from the faith and holiness 1b4) adversity, affliction, trouble: sent by God and serving to test or prove one's character, faith, holiness 1c) temptation (i.e. trial) of God by men 1c1) rebellion against God, by which his power and justice are, as it were, put to the proof and challenged to show themselves Perhaps the best verse that represents the rest of the uses of the word Temptation is: 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Consider that "if a way to escape" is made (SEE REV 3:10) "ye may be able to bear it." At no time does the Lord tell us that we are going to be taken out of time or FROM this earth. The pre-trib doctrine stretches the truth to incredulity, and I can guarantee you, all should be concerned with the following verses: Rev 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. The pre-trib doctrine is pure heresy! I used to believe it and was led along by men's fables - UNTIL I started reading the scriptures for myself and I was delivered from it. Your Servant in Christ, Dad Ernie <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Dad I was scanning through, and have a question actually for anyone. If you had a spouse that you loved, why would you want to beat her up? After all the tribulaton is God's wrath is it not? Down here on earth we would call that spousel abuse..

  18. Hi, Neb I agree with you. Id just like to say it seems to me modern science in a lot of cases is just a tool to try to prove evolution. Take the name of one of the European spacecraft exploring I believe it was Mars, anyway its name was the Beagle, the name of one of Darwins exploration ships. As far as I'm concerned even if they find life on other planets, that doesn't disprove God. in my personal opinion I don't think they will, because the whole of the bible seems to focus mostly on humankind, and the earth. God Bless Bob
