Thank you for your response. I've just noticed that there seems to be a different feeling when I'm in a Catholic church with a crucifix as opposed to a protestant church with a cross - I seem to feel the presence of Jesus differently. Maybe it's just what I'm accustomed to. And I certainly understand the cross as being a presence within each of us, and not an idol hanging on a wall.
Yes, I am Catholic, and yes, I do kneel in church, but it is before I am humbling myself before Christ, not a crucifix. And, I agree, it doesn't make me any closer to salvation than those who don't.
Just something I've wondered.
