  1. one general rule of thumb: if it's ME in jail, 100% of the time...

lol, ok, i know it's a serious question, sorry. there isn't any hard fast rule you can apply to this question. i have a sister who has been in trouble with the law several times and my father has bailed her out, but he says that he will not do it again. i have an uncle who has been locked up any number of times in his life for child support, drunkeness, etc. someone in the family always bails him out. he's close to 60 yrs old now, i don't know if sitting in jail would have made him grow up or not. no easy answer to the question.

if someone is in jail swearing up and down that they are going to "Straighten somebody out" when they get out, i wouldn't bail them out.

  2. David: i was a prison guard for over 8 years and i got saved while i worked there. i was in a strange position for ministry, in that there was a limit to how much i could help anyone and also, i was a brand new Christian. so i didn't do alot of ministry beyond prayer and encouragement.

but an inmate told me something once that might be worth knowing: he told me that alot of guys, when they 1st get locked up, read the Bible alot because it makes them feel better but that they never really put it in practice and when they get out, they leave their Bible behind in prison. Basically, they try to be Chrisitians when they're locked up and forget about it when they get out. so, if i were involved in prison ministry, this would be something i would try to address.

i want to say to you that you have all my respect for what you do, God bless you. "I was in prison and you remembered me." in the institution that i worked, even hard men had respect and love for those who took the trouble to try to help them in ministry. they really appreciated it. God bless you.

  3. ok, the debate over socialism can go on forever. but here's what interests me and hasn't been addressed: how do you feel about Newsweek declaring the USA to be a socialist nation? are they the ones who decide that we are? have we become socialist because they have made this declaration?

looks like a heck of a step, to me, for a mere magazine.

  4. I picked it up again in the bookstore the last time I was there and just got a 'yucky spirit feel' about it.

I guess I would have to ask if Jesus would read it. If not, then there's a reason. My answer would be no.

To me it's like a harry potter book for christians. Looks harmless on the outside, same as harry potter does to the secular world (and some christians) but really isn't.

I would recommend asking God whether you should read it or not. I wouldn't touch it.

right on, Yesult. i praise God for your discernment. the shack is POISON.

  5. here is a quote from "the Shack":

"Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims.... I have no desire to make them Christian, but I do want to join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters"

you guys find nothing wrong with this? you see no contradiction with the Bible in that statement? "Every system" doesn't ring any kind of bell with you guys?

this book is decieving new-age trash. just because it gives you warm fuzzy feelings doesn't make it good.

  6. i am SO glad to see all these firm negative comments! I've seen "Chrisitian" message boards whose members didn't have a clue as to the truth.

the new age movement is the original lie of satan: "you can be like God."

Flee from it like you would flee the plague.

  7. God bless each and everyone of you for your replys and especially your prayers. things have already moved in a better direction. my son and i spent the day together and didn't speak of the troubles. i have found that i can get some councilling help thru my job. my employer has offered to let me make some changes in my work situation and that will help things.

i have read through all your suggestions and there were many helpful things there. thank you all so much for caring.

  8. my 17 year old son has failed at school. he had been offered a chance to make-up work and lied to his mother and myself about doing it. during a disagreement recently, he attempted to physically intimidate me. as far as i can tell, he isn't using drugs or doing anything like that. but very dishonest and manipulative. and he is very angry whenever confronted with his dishonesty.

it seems that all he cares about is his girlfriend and being with his friends. i hate to see him going wrong, he has been such a good boy all his life. now i'm really afraid for him.

i need to get some kind of counselling going, i need help. i know many folks here have dealt with things like this, please advise how you've handled things. i don't even know who to ask for help, as far as a counciling agency or something like that.

and we very much need your prayers. thanks so much.

  9. when i was younger, i made myself read through all the genealogies, more than once, too, just so i would be able to say that i had read the whole Bible.

thinking of that reminds me of something: i once read a book called "How to Enjoy the Boring Parts of the Bible". that book was fascinating! whoever wrote it, he found all kinds of sigfigance in the the geneologies you wouldn't normally see. wish i still had that book.

  10. it is my opinion that the false religion of the end times is already at work in the world. it is the false "new age" witchcraft that oprah winfrey has devoted a year-long study to.

she's not the only one promoting it and it didn't begin with her.

  11. an interesting thing to me: "conversations with god" has been around several years. and the book oprah is promoting through teachings on her radio show, "a course in miracles" was first published '75. the new age decievers have settled on some "classics", it seems. why this is interesting is that i know that there are probably hundreds of books (well, thousands, maybe) that promote all kinds of new age thinking. but these two have floated to the top, here in these days when the end game is in sight. So it means that these two have probably really canonized and codified what the enemy wants in people's minds...

i'm going to watch and see if they start pushing "the book of urantia" sometime soon.

  12. I was never made aware of this book. I find it interesting that not only did his Word of Faith collegues ignore the book, but many of his critics also ignored the book.

Thanks for sharing this Neb. It is an eye-opener.

my sentiments exactly. thanks for posting this. this re-affirms my faith in brother hagin's ministry. his book "the triumphant church" really changed my life a few years ago but the prosperity teachings i'vee heard by other people has always sounded like GREED more than anything else...
