I love to watch horror movies, read Stephen King or Koontz, I listen to Heavy Metal music.
My lady keeps telling me that I have to be careful of what I let into my heart and my mind.
Could you point out to me the scriptures of the Bible that say anything like what she told me?
you have time for reading king and koontz, but you don't have time to read the Scriptures? if you are a follower of Christ, you should be into the Bible yourself, not asking someone to find it for you.

According to Israel's newspaper Haaretz, Obama supports Israel.
"My view is that the United States' special relationship with Israel obligates us to be helpful to them in the search for credible partners with whom they can make peace, while also supporting Israel in defending itself against enemies sworn to its destruction," he said.
quote from obama's book"the audacity of hope":
"i will stand with the muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction".
i would like to know more about this quote and this book.

i hear it from time to time. it never fails to amaze me how the hosts, whoever they are, can always be polite and never say things like, "ARE YOU COMPLETELY INSANE?" which would be a constant temptation for me, if i were doing that job.

excellent book!

i am a fundamentalist and i'm not ashamed of it either. i don't see why y'all are dancing around it. a fundamentalist is someone who takes the Bible literally.

Its one paraphrase I am not fond of particularly, I have not used any paraphrase as a study material. I read the "Good News Bible" as a teenager because I was capivated by the illustrations...remember those?
yes, i remember those little stickmen! i bought one of those from the PX at ft. knox in '79. i really liked it.

in the Lord's Prayer, mr peterson saw fit to "translate" the words "on earth, as it is in Heaven" as "as above, so below." the phrase "as above, so below" is a phrase that occultists use. so therefore, i don't need "The Message."

Okay I'm bit of a sceptic - before I watch all of this... is this Warren Smith guy a man of truth? I mean, is he preaching truth OR is he a WoF-er
Sorry to ask this, but I don't know him and I always make sure of these things before I watch anything of the sort.
If you give the OK that he's "kosher" I promise to watch the links.
Esther
as far as i know, warren smith is not a WoF guy. he is a former new-ager who got saved out of it.

I haven't had time to listen to the Smith tape yet, but what's this about including Rick Warren in with the criticism of the course in miracles or the emerging church? We'd better be real careful about drawing hasty conclusions, especially the comment about Siegel being quoted in the Purpose Driven Life. Does one quote inform the value of the entire book? Warren quotes the Bible throughout as well as quoting non-Biblical sources. Ever heard of the gift of discernment?
I'm from Southern CA and was around when Calvary Costa Mesa began, attended Greg Laurie's Calvary Chapel before it became Harvest, then attended Chuck Smith Jr's Calvary Chapel for years. Are you aware he's been drummed out of the Calvary Chapel community? There's lots of going ons behind the scenes, people. We left Chuck Jr's church for Rick Warren's Saddleback only because they had a Celebrate Recovery program and it was very close to our house. After five years at Saddleback, I think I'm qualified to assess the Prupose Driven Life movement as an insider, and let me assure all of you that it is good. Rick Warren is a sweet spirit, approachable, humble and brilliant. His wife is wonderful. Be careful, you who draw negative conclusions based on a thimble-ful of knowledge. Good grief.
We've been in Purpose Driven churches in Indian Wells, CA, and now in Bend, OR. Point being, there is real fruit in the PDL movement. I think there is certainly a spirit of jealousy among some in the faith community that Rick Warren has created this Saddleback phenomenon, all the while praying for God to be the center of it. Well, I went to his church when it met in Trabuco Hills High School and came back years later when it was in the new campus. We've led three or four small groups through the PDL video series. It is Biblical and nothing insidious. Again, good grief to the criticism of this amazing movement of the Holy Spirit. However, wherever people are involved, problems emerge. That's not really news, is it?
As far as the Course in Miracles, yep, beware. Emerging church too much to address here.
Where does Rick Warren stand in regards to Robert Schuller's Rethink Conference? Did Rick Warren participate in it?
and yes, in my case, ONE quote or teaching from a new-age guru is enough to de-value the entire book. it shows a serious lack of discernment on the part of the writer.

apostacy is ceasing to believe. backsliding is lawlessness.

great links, 4given! great information.

Mr. Smith mentioned that rick warren refers to bernie siegel in "the purpose driven life". i just went and checked him out. mr. siegel has started a center for new spirituality with donald walsch.
for people with itching ears.

this is great stuff, 4given! he spells out what's wrong with the "purpose drivel" real good. i noticed he said something about how alot of people thought the new age went away. it never went away, Christians just got tired of hearing about it.
he also said the false christ is at the door, yup.
and also that these new age people are getting to the place where they will "openly take us on".
if anyone really wants to know the truth about the end-times deception the church is wallowing in right now, read "INTOXICATED WITH BABYLON" by Steve Gallagher.

Nobody has even viewed this
hey, forgiven, i just got off work, 1st time i've seen this. i am VERY interested in hearing what warren smith has to say, if i can get my busted up computer to play the audio...
but, yes, you are going to be frustrated in trying to warn Christians about new age stuff. they get tired of hearing it really fast. most Christians believe they can't be deceived, so if you try to warn them about deception, it bores them.

here are some stripped down facts about scientology:
they charge their followers a fee (in the thousands of dollars) for "salvation".
l. ron hubbard, the founder of this cult, derived ideas for the religion he invented from aleister crowley, who was an open devil worshipper.

of course there are different degrees of sin. common sense tells us that: a man is alone in a woods, chopping wood with an axe. he makes a mis-stroke and then utters a profane oath. that is a sin.
a man in grocery store parking lot gets into an argument with another man, then pulls a pistol from his pocket and kills the other man. this is a greater sin.
in this most obvious and extreme example, one sin brings greater destruction than another.

i would say they can be restored, but the root cause of it all must be dealt with, and that isn't easy. there aren't even that many people who really know how to minister to this situation.
-
the man the OP spoke to was saying, "our church is probably alot different than what you are used to. we have customs and traditions that go back along way, back to when our people were treated as 3d class citizens and our church was the only place in society where we felt 100% free and safe and respectable and free to regard ourselves as equal to anybody. so we are somewhat unsure about strangers."
but to come right out and say all that is a bit awkward, so he just gave you the short version, "We're a black church."

i recently read and reread "at the alter of sexual idolatry" by steve gallagher. this is a GREAT book for men struggling with sexual issues - and millions of Christian men are struggling. this book can really help you to get free. i speak from experience!

all i can say to this question is, if you are gonna start correcting people's language, you gonna be awful busy. at least in my neck of the woods...

The majority of Christians never expereince leading someone else to a born again experience. Will this stunt the spiritual growth of a Christian at some point in his/her development?
for me, santification = obedience to the Holy Spirit. so if the Spirit leads me to share my faith and i fail to do it, i have sinned. learning to hear and obey the voice of the Spirit has been for me a long process, it probably is for many others, too.

I am confused. What is wrong with the Course in Miracles?
Hurtful: here is a quote from ACIM: "do not make the pathetic error of 'clinging to the old rugged cross'".
another: "the journey to the cross should be the last useless journey."
another: "a slain Christ has no meaning"
also: "evil does not exist."
this book is a doctrine of demons. don't fall for it.

this is a passage from the book "Walk of Repentance" by Steve Gallagher. i think it's worth sharing.
i recently heard a message from romans 12:2 by
a minister for whom i have tremendous respect.
he said that God is trying to transform our
"fallen" minds into the Mind of Christ.
Although the anti-christ wasn't the topic of
his message, he made a very poignant statement
that bears repeating. he said that those who
continually watch television are keeping their
minds within the mentality of this world. he
said that one day a man will appear on thaT
television claiming to have all the answers for
all of the problems of mankind.he went on to
say that Christians often naively think that
they will be able to withstand the deception of
the anti-christ when he comes, but those who
watch television are at present aligning their
minds with him already. he said it would be
IMPOSSIBLE for them to withstand the heavy
delusion that will come upon the world that
day. he said: "if they can't say "no" to that
TV now, what makes them think they will be able
to say "no" to it when that day comes?"
