  1. I believe in one God; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Great Three In One....known as the Trinity. The Bible is very clear that besides Him, there are no other gods. One God, yet three persons.....can I explain it ? Not in this life because it is beyond human understanding. But I accept it by faith because the Bible says it's true. I can sum it up best by saying I wholeheartedly affirm the truths in the Apostle's Creed - I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. *The word "catholic" refers not to the Roman Catholic Church, but to the universal church of the Lord Jesus Christ. In His Service, Bob
  2. This discussion started in the "Bible Versions" thread and since it is starting to change the topic, I decided to start a new thread on it. The discussion was about who is Jesus ? God, man, both ? I believe that Jesus claimed to be God many times, and to believe anything less is a sin. This statement was made in the other thread - I would have to have a very detailed explanation of what you mean by God Almighty in the flesh to agree with that phraise. I hear it a lot but have not heard a good explanation of all that it takes in. He made it clear that the Father was in Him and He in the Father, but was very clear to point out He was not the Father. So God Almighty may have been in His Flesh, but He was not God Almighty. God Almighty is the Father. Let's look at what both the prophet Isaiah said about this and what Jesus Himself said..... Isaiah 9:6 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. And what did Isaiah say Jesus' name would be ? Isaiah 7:14 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. And what does Immanuel mean ? - Matthew 1:22-23 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. And who created the Earth ? Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now let's see what the New Testament says - Colossians 1:13-18 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. And in the book of John - John 1:1-3 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made In the next example, Phillip asked Jesus to show the Father as proof - pay close attention to what Jesus said and why He said it was not necessary to show him the Father - John 14:8-11 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. And here's another claim by Jesus that angered the Jews - John 10:30-33 30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus clearly identified who He was ( many times ). In John 10 you see this claim infuriated the Jews so much that they tried to stone Him; and it was this claim that ultimately led to His crucifixion. When Moses asked God who he should say sent him, God's answer was this - Exodus 3:14 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. This establishes that God revealed Himself as "I AM". It's very important to follow up on this in the New Testament when Jesus was being questioned about who He was and who He claimed to be......what did He say ? John 8:58-59 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. Again, this claim to be God Himself made them so mad that they tried to stone him. The night before Jesus died, he predicted his betrayal and death, and said,
  3. 1 Corinthians 6:18-19 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. Let's look at two parts here. First, at verse 18. Websters defines the word "flee" as the following: flee 1 a : to run away often from danger or evil b : to hurry toward a place of security 2 : to pass away swiftly : VANISH transitive senses : to run away from : SHUN Let's say there's a big, mean dog in your neighborhood; known for biting people....do you see how close you can get to it ? Do you try to tease the dog right up to the point of being attacked ? No, you stay away from it....you walk way out of your way to avoid it. Likewise, Paul didn't say to tease this sin to see how close you can get without falling, he said flee from it.....run in the opposite direction as fast as you can. Sexual temptations are very real and very strong....they are also open to what many perceive as "differences in opinion".....Paul doesn't teach that though - he doesn't say it's ok to look but not touch; that would involve getting close the danger.....he said flee!....run away " to a place of security " Now, verse 19. Who was allowed in the Holy of Holies back in the Old Testament ? Only the High Priests and only once a year. Why ? Because where ever God is, that place is holy. Why did God command Moses to remove his sandals in the desert when He spoke from the burning bush ? Even the ground was Holy! Where God dwells, it needs to be pure, clean & holy. It's no accident that Paul included the statement your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit while speaking of sexual purity. God dwells within us...we are a temple - a place only one person could enter and only once a year in old Testament times. The Bible speaks on sexual purity many times. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 says 3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable. Where do we stop ? Ephesians 5:3 says But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Not even a hint....that means none! Flee from it! What else does the Bible say about fleeing ? James 4:7 says Resist the devil, and he will flee from you......even though sexual temptations can be tough, God does provide a way out....always. In His service, Bob
  4. You are sure to get a broad spectrum of answers on this one...I personally use a parallel Bible - King James and the NIV side by side....there's no doubt the King James is a more precise translation, however many find the NIV much easier to follow ( which is still a good translation, but you should always have the KJV nearby to compare what's said ( difference in word usage can sometimes have the tendency to give the appearance for a change in meaning - that is something you'll have to discern for yourself ). A KJV is also a must when witnessing to the Jehovah's Witnesses ( I'll explain why if need be ). I'm not set in stone on one particular version as I think they all have their positive aspects as well as their negative aspects. In His service, Bob
  5. I do hope you won't find me so. That's an odd assertion, let's see where that is going. Right, good definition of science. How exactly does evolution not fit into the scientific method? You highlighted the words "obtained and tested through the scientific method", as if they were very important - perhaps you believe that evolution is not obtained and tested through the scientific method? Now you've asserted that evolutionists you talk to are ignorant of scientific facts - I wonder then if you'd do me the honour of defining, in your own words, what the scientific method is please? Perhaps you could educate me since I am an evolutionist, and probably ignorant of such things, and also you could help clarify your statement that evolution does not use the scientific method. Thanks. Greetings! First, a clarification...Ignorant and stupid ( I know you didn't say "stupid", but I need to make my intent clear here ) are totally different....ignorant, in the way I used it ( and by it's very definition ) means without adequate knowledge - or unlearned....that is not meant to be derogatory....if you felt so, please accept my apologies along with this clarification....I simply mean that most I've dealt with simply don't have all the facts. I will attempt to change that. All this being said, I will take some time to put together a thread to defend my point of view. I'm not a "cut & paste" kinda guy, so be patient as I put something together. Fair enough ? In His service, Bob
  6. First I have to say, it is very refreshing to see so many Christian acknowledge the ever real existence of demons & Satan....one of his most deceitful lies he likes to tell us is that he doesn't exist. Well, in this case, the old proverb "what you can't see can't hurt you" is a terrible stance to take. Friends, there is a spiritual battle going on right now and don't ever doubt it for a moment....what's the purpose of a stealth bomber ? To make the enemy think no one's there. They fligh in in the cover of darkness and when no one is expecting anything......BOOM. Satan is real, demons are real and they HATE YOU. And there are no such things as "good ghosts" ( all "ghosts" are demons by the way - except the Holy Ghost of course )....remember what the Bible says about Satan ? 2 Corinthians 11 says " 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve ". Satan is an expert liar and will pull ANY trick to get you to believe his lies. So, what do we do ? PRAY! Satan HATES prayer. He also HATES praise....He wanted to be God and wanted to be praised....so it's no wonder that he seethes with envy when he sees us praising God. Next, don't be afraid.....demons and the Holy Spirt can not co inhabit your body....if you have Christ in you, Satan can't take you. Next - PRAY ( and did I mention prayer ? )....put it in God's hands. See, Satan has already been defeated - When Christ said " it is finished ", Satan was defeated. There's so much to say about this, but I'd like to end with one of my most cherished Bible verses....I recommend you print it out and hang it up in every room of your home. The verse is found in Romans 8:31-39 and it reads - 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died
  7. That would be micro-evolution...also called adaptation - NOT evolution ( there are 5 types of evolution & adaptation was conveniently lumped into the generalized definition of evolution in an attempt to deny creation )....I find evolutionist to be very ignorant of scientific facts when trying to debate their religion of evolution.....evolution is NOT science - Webster's definition of science - Main Entry: sci
  8. No & no.....Paul is very clear in Romans 6 that because we are saved by grace, that does not entitle us to sin as we please ( 1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! ).......then he takes it one step further and says immediately following - We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? ) A true born again Christian will no longer have the desire to sin, and will abhor and despise his sins....that does not mean he is sinless however....In Romans 3:11-12 Paul says - there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.". John also made a very direct statement in 1 John 1:8-9 - 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. We must be very careful though to examine ourselves and strive to flee from sin - in Hebrews ( 10:26-27 ) we read - "26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God No grey are there folks - we, being reborn in Christ must strive not to sin...yes, salvation is by grace alone ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ), but to continue to live in sin is simply not conducive to being a Christian. Yes, we all sin, but we are also forgiven of that sin. James says in James 4:7 "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."...pretty good advice I'd say.... In His service, Bob
  9. I have so much to say to the evolutionist I simply don't have time to type it all....however, I can recommend a great series of videos to watch online that might just change your idea....if you don't believe in creation, please watch these videos and see what they offer - it's the least you can do to prove your theory is true. If you believe in creation ( as I do ), I'd still urge you to watch them to better equip yourself and strengthen your faith. Broadband is not needed ( I have dial up & they work just fine ). There are seven sections and are about 1-2 hours long each....once you start watching, you'll most likely be glued to it until it's over...they're that good. I'm not saying I agree 100 % with everything this guy says, but he sure puts a new perspective on evolution & creation. Watch them all...even if you don't believe in creation - you owe yourself at least that much.... http://www.blueletterbible.org/audio_video...n_template.html In His Service, Bob
