  1. Marketing. G-mail is short for Google mail. Funny, I thought I read a while ago that is was finally open to everyone. Or maybe it was just out of beta? Well, whichever. I never had the wish to sign up as Google actively scans all messages to better target ads. I realize that Google is completely up front about this, nothing shady about it, but I still don't want any part of it. If I ever need an e-mail account with a gig of space, I'll just ask a friend of mine for one on his server. Funny thing is there is an area where Google can't call it G-mail, as someone already has it trademarked. If you can only sign up for "Googlemail" and not "G-mail" then you live in that area. Oops...
  2. You really have been having a rough year. I never knew. My condolences, and you'll be in my prayers. EDIT: I just did a search and found you mentioned this shortly after joining the forum in the prayer requests forum. I really have to read that forum more. How are you and Cameron (note: Becky's grandson who lost his father for those like me who didn't know) doing?
  3. I understand what you're saying. I called myself "bortaS DIb" (Klingon rite of vengeance) for a while when I played Laser Quest. I wouldn't even think of using that now. If you want a Christian recommendation, I just bought a book titled Heaven by Randy Alcorn and gave it to my mother for her birthday. I never read it myself, but it was highly recommended by someone at my church. Oh, and that author I couldn't remember for that Belgariad and Mallorean series (fantasy, not Christian) was David Eddings.
  4. I think I'm gonna change mine to JesusEatsKlingonsForBreakfast. How about it? Nah. I think I'll stick with Man of God, even if it is in tlhIngan Hol. Oops, I mean the Klingon language... It's giving over what's meant for evil (blood-thirsty, have their own afterlife not involving God, etc...) to God instead after all.
  5. We love 'ya whoever you are, Becky. Does that mean you're giving up reading the series as well? Just curious. P.S. Did any of my reading suggestions work for you? I know they were pretty much the same kind of stuff, and of course useless if you're giving up sci-fi/fantasy (for wholesome Christian books, of course).

  7. When I first read this post I thought students weren't allowed to have Bibles in the dorms. Reading the article though, the school is just prohibiting the Gideons from leaving Bibles there. Still sad, but not the persecution I thought at first. It would just be nice if they adopted the same policy as the other school mentioned in the article: There might be new garbage to sort through to get to the Truth, but at least the Gideons could still distribute it.

  10. The Way of the Master includes million dollar bills that can be passed out. I have one in front of me right now. The front looks very real, though it feels nothing like real money. The back contains a Gospel message around the edge.
  11. No, I don't mind nebula, kodischild. I think this thread is pretty much played out anyway. There are too many other threads that can use our posts.
  12. Open for business again. Let's only post under cool heads, m'kay? Remember, not everyone is going to agree. In this case both sides have pretty solid ground under them, so I think it's just a matter of priority here. What say you?
  13. Okay, temporarily locked.
  14. Okay, I find myself in a quandary here. On the one hand we are arguing Biblical truth, which is more important- protecting our children from corruption or reaching people for Christ? On the other hand, I don't think either side is making any headway, and I don't know that anything new is being said in the circles we keep going 'round. And some of these comments are very heated. I think I'm going to lock this for a bit and see if cooler heads can prevail tomorrow. EDIT: I see someone responding right now, so I will wait a few minutes. I don't like topics being closed when I am typing something, so I will let it through.
  15. Well I certainly opened up the proverbial can-o-worms. I never realized how diametrically opposed the positions were. Impressionable children vs. Biblical duty. I have already made my views plain so I won't go into them again. SJ and Deacon, I recommend a cooling off period. However, I won't lock this thread (it's my thread!) as attacks don't seen to be personal yet, just arguing on what the Bible says and what it doesn't say. And it is on topic. I will re-evaluate in a few hours after I get home from Church.
  16. No, you are not Jews. The Bible does not teach that Gentiles are "spiritual" Jews, or "adopted Jews" or whatever. Hmm. Maybe I should start a discussion just on this point. Personally, I have never seen myself as Jewish, but I am an adopted child of God. But yod got me thinking about it. It would be an interesting discussion. Is it puzzling why Jews would act like Jews? Actually Gentiles Christians DID celebrate Passover and kept the Sabbath until the fourth century, A.D. when Constantine outlawed it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Please note that this question was based on the first assumption. If you are correct and Christians are not adopted Jews then as you say there is no question of it at all.
  17. That's good to hear that it is blown out of proportion. I could just imagine Smith shooting Jones and then lying to police, saying, "I thought he was going to hurt me," knowing full well a dead Jones couldn't argue. What are the real limitations of this law?
  18. Does anyone know more about this? Makes me not want to go back to Florida if this law is anything like the article says it is. I mean, I'm for gun rights as much as the next American, but doesn't this go just a bit too far? Florida tourists warned that locals could shoot them ALASTAIR JAMIESON IT IS Britain's most popular transatlantic holiday destination, attracting more than 1.5 million visitors a year with its sun-drenched beaches, theme parks and wildlife. But Florida's
  19. Okay, past time to reply. That is an interesting thing yod mentions that I haven't really thought about, assuming I am getting his meaning correctly. As Christians, we too are Jews, adopted into God's family. I wonder why this isn't taught more? We all learn that we become sons and daughters of God when we accept Christ, but no one mentions further what that means. Israel has always been God's people and still are, which means that when He adopts and makes us part of His family, we become Jews as they have always been His family since Abraham. However, as Gentile Christians we are taught that we don't need to follow Jewish customs, presumably since they are of the old Covenant and we enter under the new Covenant, Jesus Christ. Please correct me if I am in error here. This does bring up the question though of why Messianic Jews (born Jewish) still celebrate Jewish customs while Gentile Christians do not. Is there a problem either way? I know when my friend started celebrating Jewish customs he stopped celebrating Christmas and Easter, those not being in the Bible. I haven't spoken to him in several years, so I don't know if this is still the case.
  20. Most of us accept that he is a true believer. Christians who have had personal contact with him have confirmed this fact. Given this fact, those charges you are making against him are highly improbable. Yes he can still sin, but you make him out to be some sort of antichrist (no, not the Antichrist- the Bible makes a distinction). His competency can be and has been argued at times but he is most definitely not the malicious character you seem to think he is.
  21. No one has said anything about the churches rights and forcing them to take students. My argument, in fact, was about what these schools decide, not the law. When I mentioned being barred from them, I never meant for that to be interpreted as they should be forced to. If you reread my posts I think you will see that. Indeed there is question on why this particular "couple" wanted their "daughter" there. Unfortunately we will likely never know, nor are we likely to know what more there is to the story. My issue is that a blanket rule requiring at least one parent to be Christian is not a good solution, even if this girl was an absolute horror (I have no reason to believe she was). A better solution is to have pre-entrance conferences with the parents and student to make sure expectations for the student are understood, as well as consequences for failure to meet those expectations. Parents also would need to be given procedures to follow in case of a disagreement with the schools. If they instead choose to make a stink later about something then the school would deal with it on an individual basis, with the absolute last resort being expulsion of the student.
  22. I did get that idea when browsing their site, but then again my friend has been successfully using it to lead people to Christ. It is business, but I find that your statement of it being nothing more than that is not true.
  23. Well, Kirk Cameron has promoting Way of the Master with Ray Comfort lately. For those not in the know it is a video series on evangelism. It is shown a few times a week on TBN, and is also sold as a kit with episodes on DVD and various handouts (I believe). Someone in my small groups runs a weekly class on it, though I have yet to attend.
  24. Oookay.... I agree that the books are fluffed up quite a bit to make more money, but- perverted the end times events? Twisted scriptures? Not based on any true scriptures?? Well, I guess this is all in the old Left Behind thread, so I will say no more.
  25. Oops- QM heard you... Oh wait, there's that pesky comma between those letters, so you're not talking about me after all.
