  1. I think it is more that WE mark the beginning as being the start of God's creations and thus, the mortal conception of the beginning of time. Time is a small thing that will eventually have an end. God never ends, and never dies, nor does something humanly created such as time have any effect on Him. We created Time whereas God created us. SO if we dissappear then our conception of time dissappears, which means that in the final coming of the Lord and the trials and tribulations afterward, Time would cease to exist or be a factor. For if there is noone to record time then doesn't it become nothing and meaningless? God would never become nothing nor meaningless because eventually we will go home and when we do, we will spend eternity with God. Therefore, we would forever be there to record and praise him and his works. I think I have just ranted and not really said anything.
  2. ??????? wow, thats different
  3. Ok, seriously, this thread has got to stop. We are getting way to out of hand over a book series. As far as I'm concerned. If your children can't distinguish between reality and fiction then DON'T TAKE THEM TO SEE THE MOVIES OR READ THE BOOKS. Thank you, (sorry for the use of caps, just trying to get everyone's attention) and please, no fighting over this. We are taking each other down more then actually arguing over this topic. If you guys are going to continue this thread then at least try to stop from verbally attacking other people.
  4. This is what really makes me angry: people who write hate letters and threaten J.K. Rowling because she's written these books. That's just SICK. That does not show Christian love, it is NOT an effective way to bring her to Christ (if, indeed, she isn't a Christian...but whatever), and it is NOT some sort of spiritual duty that we have. She is a human. She is a mother. She has seen hard times. She has feelings and a heart which can be hurt, broken, and bruised. If any of you is even THINKING about writing her a hate letter or whatever, I want you to think about how you would feel if you were in her shoes, and I want you to think about every bad thing you've done, AND every time you've been falsely accused of doing something wrong...then get down on your knees, and thank God Almighty for His mercy, 'cause it is because of THAT--not personal merit--that we all have the hope of seeing heaven someday. Amen for that
  5. Thank you Andrew, that light it up beautifully. I just hope people will stop arguing over so small a thing.
  6. I agree, we get nowhere on this except adding a little bitterness in our hearts against other people over such a small subject. I apologize if I have caused any myself.
  7. That was harsh but i guess duely deserved. I'm not trying to act like an authority. James 3:1, because I'm not as well versed. However, I didn't realize that this was going to become a version of Bible jeopardy. What I'm doing is trying to defend something that is innocent and harmless because I'm one of the teenagers that you would sort with children. I have done things that I'm not proud of, however, they broke down my world and eventually I hit rock bottom. I'm not even 16 yet! I turned my life around and have become fully devoted to God. I'm not saying that this stuff isn't completely bad and that I'm going to do it myself. What I'm saying is that it is harmless. If I have gone this far at my age without being twisted by this stuff then I'm pretty sure that your children can handle it!
  8. This is what I meant and exactly what I have been refering to. Just don't keep your children completely in the dark about the evils around them.
  9. am i using WHAT as a scapegoat? i'm not using ANYthing as a scapegoat. i'm providing you with biblical truth and you're accusing me of trying to deflect blame or responsibility or something along those lines that i'm not entirely clear about? your 'modern chemistry' argument falls flat. there is nothing in scripture forbidding science. no, not all witchcraft "appears" to hurt people. ask any wiccan. ask my daughter. she believes in the use of "white magic". ever heard of the beautiful side of evil? there is no witchcraft that is harmless, or even truly beneficial, because the use of it jeapardizes the SOUL of the person who is dabbling in it. white or black is irrelevant. God sees anything that comes from HIM as white, and anything that doesn't as black, to use terms popular among those who practice it. "white magic" practitioners don't think they serve "satan", they think they serve other gods and goddesses, most commonly "mother earth", which translates into idolatry, another one of those "convenient" (or inconvenient) little sections of the Bible. no matter how you slice it, these shows do not glorify God, and instead glorify one of satan's many, many tools that draw people away from Him. i heard on a radio program yesterday that nine out of ten children raised by christian parents will turn their back on their faith to pursue other gods, other forms of religion, by the time they are in college. now i don't know where he got his stats, but my guess is they aren't too far from the truth. so why on earth would we not spend what time we have (which is very little in comparison to how much time they spend in the world being taught ungodly things) failing to keep their focus on Jesus as much as humanly possible? ok, so I do take it that you trust your savior, yes? If you trust him and love him and continue to preach Jesus to your offspring, then wont your children turn a deaf ear to Satan's words? And a blind eye to Satan's acts? If you shelter your children from this then you leave them unequipped to handle it later which is why is facts are so high. I also again did never mean to offend. I am however, not saying that you should sit your child down and watch pornos. Thats a twist of my words and not what I'm saying. I fully agree that children shouldn't look at that kind of stuff. But to completely shield and cut them off and they wont be able to cope and will stray easily. I should know, my mom tried the same thing (shielding) with me and it took me a long time to come around.
  10. Ok then, that did give me quite a lot of help but might I be rather blunt? IF you look at the whole of Harry Potter and then look at what most of the Bible states as sorcery. Harry Potter: Spell: Petrificus Totalus: Latin: Total petrification: Can be done with modern medicine. Bible: Sorcery: Offering a son or daughter as a sacrifice: satanic rituals. Umm, at what point is any human sacrificed on an altar like is being described? No, the only rituals that are satanic in the Harry Potter books are the ones done by Voldemort who is EVIL!!!!!!! That is the point I'm trying to stress. In the bible they tell you all the dark things people have done. In Harry Potter you find out about dark things people have done. Is there any difference? We are shown good and evil so that we can tell the difference. (I'm not saying that Harry Potter has any stock on the Bible whatsoever)
  11. Hold on, you are taking quite a leap there. You're going from an Author's choice to use what you call "witchcraft" to push the point of good and evil in the world, to what some misguided person decided to put on the internet. I fail to see the connection between the two. Sure, you may not approve of the way that J. K. Rowling wrote her books. However, comparing it to internet trash is going a little far. That would be like me having a problem with the Bible because i didn't like the way it fully expressed in detail the death of Jesus. (I have no intention of any blasphemy, just trying to prove a point) The author also makes it clear that his books are intended to be an accurate portrayal of witchcraft. The author spent alot of time learning as much as possible about witchcraft to make sure the books accurately portrayed witchcraft. Emily Anne, I'm sorry but thats not true. First the author is a she not a he, and secondly I don't know who told you this but if you ever read the books or seen the movies there is absolutely NOTHING in the books even remotely resembling real witchcraft. Who ever told you that was not telling you the truth. I meant to say she, hence edited right away. http://www.pacinst.com/witch.htm So explain to me the benefit that so greatly surpasses the risk of teaching your children witchcraft that is presumably innocent? And this source is reliable? How do I know that this doesn't come from someone who wishes to slander J. K. Rowling for their own benefit? anyone with a grudge could have written that and I dare say that that doesn't hold much water.

That would be like me having a problem with the Bible because i didn't like the way it fully expressed in detail the death of Jesus. (I have no intention of any blasphemy, just trying to prove a point) no i'm not. i'm going from the idea that we can cave to worldly standards when they are in direct conflict with Biblical ones. is there a comparison between witchcraft and internet porn? let's see.... they both separate us from God. that's enough of a link for me. for the record, i wasn't referring just to internet trash. all you have to do is look at any billboard, any magazine ad, most anything on television (including commercials) or any other form of media to be bombarded with blatant and ungodly sexual images. But are you just using that as a scape goat? Think of modern chemistry, that at the time when all this was written, could be considered witch craft. Anyone with an ability to do something outside the extent of what is considered normality is instantly considered evil. (not including Jesus but there are explanations for that reasoning) The mentality that you are currently giving it goes to that of medieval people. We had a large body toll during that time period because of witch hunts. What you are currently saying is that we condem a movie and book series because it just happens to conviently fall under a section of the Bible refering to witchcraft. I have a question about that though. Wasn't witchcraft meant to hurt people? If you look at it in that sense, then can't you also turn around and say that what Daniel Radcliffe's Character is portraying is the good side to something we fear and that the character of Voldemort is representing the evil side?
  13. Witches think of witchcraft as harmless. We cant go by the world's standard of what is harmless, we need to go by God's word. I fully agree with that but that still leaves you with judging another person because of the way she decided to portray the battle between good and evil. Can anyone actually give me a verse that has in it that we are not to delve into witchcraft or something along the lines of sorcery? It would make this whole conversation a little easier. questing one, of course we can give you scripture. let me eat dinner and if nobody has gotten back with you on this, i will. are you honestly implying that you are totally unaware that the Bible specifically addresses this? No, not at all, I'm saying that my mother has mentioned it but i have never really been able to find it in scripture. I'm just asking for a little nudge in the right direction
