  1. It is my understanding that Babylon of Revelation is indeed a metaphor for the evil world power and all that it represents. Babylon in Isaiah was part of the Assyrian empire and the rallying point of rebellion against God, which is why John used the name Babylon as the name of the world powers that will oppose God in the end.

  2. God has proven His existance in all of creation. There is no need for us to try to prove something that has already been done. If a creation exists there must be a creator. Something does not come from nothing. If someone believes that, they have more faith than I do in my belief that God exists.

It really comes down to what one chooses to believe or not believe. When you accept the existance of a Creator, then you have a moral delima, which from my experience, most who say they don't believe in God, do so in order to continue living their lives as they see fit without any guilt or consequences.

  3. here is a quote from "the Shack":

"Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims.... I have no desire to make them Christian, but I do want to join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters"

you guys find nothing wrong with this? you see no contradiction with the Bible in that statement? "Every system" doesn't ring any kind of bell with you guys?

this book is decieving new-age trash. just because it gives you warm fuzzy feelings doesn't make it good.

Could you give me the page number on those (or at least the chapter). I would like to read them in context

Eric, I don't remember the page numbers but here is what I read about that quote and posted on another discussion about this book. I think the section this is in is Here comes Da Judge...but not positive. I would have to look it up again. This is my posting:

The quote you posted is taken out of context. When taken out of context of the whole paragraph it does seem misleading. Jesus told the central character, that he (Jesus) was not a Christian and then went on to explain that those who love him come from all beliefs. He says in the next sentence "they were" which implies they at one time were from those beliefs but are now followers of Jesus.

He then explains further that it DOES NOT mean the all roads lead to Jesus, but "Jesus" says in the book that it means HE will travel all roads to find you.

Christ is interested in us being transformed into sons and daugheters of God. Nothing wrong with that.

If you disagree that's ok, but I just felt the need to post clarification because of lot of pretexts come from text taken out of context.

  4. ok why are 3 threads on the same topic pls this is major confusion

two in general discussion and one in controversial

can't you even agree to a thread wow

    not impressive :blink::foot-stomp:

:24: Major confusion? Goodness there are dozens of threads on the same subjects, like prayer, the rapture and so on. It happens.

I posted this when I first heard about the book, not realizing others had posted on this subject.

  5. But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians 4:4-5)

That may not answer the "why" but for me it settles the question. GOD did it when HE deemed it was the right time.

  6. When you least feel like praying is when you probably need to do it the most, no matter if it is for a meal. Usually there is something else going on and how like Satan to want to defeat us in what we would consider a small matter, praying over our food. If we can't be faithful in the "small" things, will we be faithful in the really big ones? Just a thought!

  7. I can see valid points for both sides. The problem as I see it is when someone who doesn't know Scripture (perhaps a lost person) who is following a post and someone throws out a statement such as "God helps those who helps themselves", the person not knowing Scripture make think that is biblical. I have had people say that to me and are so POSITIVE it's in Scripture.

I guess where I am going with this, is you have to consider who is asking for you to support what you say with Scripture. If a non-believer, perhaps you should supply it to support your post. For another Christian, maybe they need the challenge of looking it up for themselves.

Just my thoughts on it. ( I hope this makes sense, I felt like I was sort a rambling) :th_praying:

  8. I was listening to a radio program this morning and the speaker posed that question, "Are you a thermometer or a thermostat?"

Thermometers react to the situation. Thermostats control the situation.

What a great example to keep in mind as a Christian. Titus2:2,5 tells us we are to be self-controlled. We are to control (be a thermostat) the situation.

Let's hear it for all the thermostats!!! :)

  9. A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.

Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:0 0 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, 'Please wake me at 5:00 AM.' He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.'

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests. :)
