  1. Sheya- Its really great to meet you! How's the weather in Texas? Ha ha. Its been a very rainy day here near Vancouver, BC! I read a bit of your story on your page. Very uplifting! I also wear my cover right at my hairline. About once a day I need to reposition it - tends to slide a bit. Must run! -Deedee
  2. Hey there, Nope, I'm not married (never have been)... so there's no husband to command it. I cover because of the scripture that's been debated here (1 Corinthians 11). Its been very interesting to read everyone's opinions on the subject but I still feel just as convicted to cover. Its a personal choice and I certainly don't look down my long nose and other ladies who don't cover. Its also about modesty for me. I think (in general) we try to look a certain way to please the world and each other. For me, people told me how beautiful my hair was one too many times and I was getting a swollen head about it - pride. When I read the scripture suddenly it made sense. I read it, re-read it, prayed about and pondered it. I came to the conclusion that covering my hair would be a bit of a sacrifice and an act of obedience to the call I felt in my heart. Its quite amazing how much free-er I feel... I don't have to worry about having my hair 'just so'. I know some ladies only cover during prayer but since we're called to pray 'without ceasing'... I keep my head covered except when sleeping. I can only speak for myself. There are other ladies here who can give you completely different reasons for why they cover. -Deedee
  3. This is similar to the snoods I wear: http://www.garlandsofgrace.com/mewipa.html
  4. Wow. Talk about lively debate. I really just wanted to meet other covered ladies. I didn't intend this to be a place for people to argue with each other over something some of us feel convicted about. It kinda sounds like my cover is being equated to a burka, and that's a little offensive. That said, I'm acutely aware that my cover offends some people. I don't quite understand why but I'm happy to read your opinions - it has opened my eyes a bit to other people's views... this is my own personal choice - not something that the men in my life dictate. I think that's the way it should be. Yes, I know that some muslim women are forced into burkas (which is sad and extremely unfair) but I'm not muslim and I have yet to be mistaken for one - something I don't think will ever happen. "They'll know we are Christians by our love"... I don't think that has anything to do with how I have my hair wrapped up and has nothing to do with me "win(ning) the lost dressed in a tent or heavily veiled...". I'm a friendly person and people know I'm a Christian beyond a shadow of a doubt - my cover has nothing to do with it. -Deedee
  5. I wear scarves - huge rectangles of cloth that I tie bun-style. I also look horrendous in a hats. I also am a fan of the snood but I don't wear them very often.
  6. AnitaRose - I know exactly what you mean. I had heard of women covering their heads at church but it isn't something the ladies at my church do. I read and re-read the 1 Corinthians and it was very eye-opening to me. There was no grey area for me anymore. Kat - I don't take that wrong at all. For me, I wear my cover in obedience to God who said that its a disgrace for a woman to have her head uncovered (1 corinthians 11). Some feel that we're only supposed to cover our heads when we pray... but I take the position we're supposed to pray without ceasing... so for me, I keep my head covered all the time. Its also about modesty for me. I think God gave me long beautiful hair for me and my husband. I don't think I should show it off to the world so I keep it wrapped up I can only speak for myself. I know I haven't always felt this way and I don't think less of gals who don't cover. Its a personal choice. -Deedee
  7. I have many, many life-threatening allergies. I hope, when I get to heaven, I'll be able to eat kiwi fruit, oranges, nuts and eggs (to mention just a few). I also imagine it'll involve a lot of worship and praise to God. -Deedee
  8. Hey there- I'm so excited to meet you all! I'm one of a very few of my friends who cover so its nice to meet other ladies/gals who do. Which are your preferences for coverings? Mine are a huge triangle of cloth that I tie "bun" style. This is the closest I was able to find online to what I do: http://www.tznius.com/cgi-bin/bun.pl -Deedee
  9. I know this would be best put in the Ladies section but I don't have the password to post there... Am wondering if there's a thread about modest/covered ladies. I'm a covered gal myself... am just wondering if there are others like me on this board. -Deedee
  10. I was shocked by the answers in some cases but not shocked in others. I'm not American - I'm Canadian. I heard not long ago that Canada doesn't have any explicit abortion legislation. Not sure what's up with that - I never got a chance to read the full article. *sigh* -Deedee
