Leviticus 19:26 ‘You shall not eat with the blood,
nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying.
The prohibition against eating with the blood originated with the covenant
with mankind God established with Noah.
Genesis 9:4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
This was extended to the Gentiles for fellowship with the Jews.
Acts 15:
28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater
burden than these necessary things:
29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood,
from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.
If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.
As to the practice of divination and soothsaying, this type of false prophesying was widely practiced
during the time of Manasseh, which led to the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Chronicles 33:6 Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom;
he practiced soothsaying,
used witchcraft and sorcery,
and consulted mediums and spiritists.
He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.
Not under Law, but under Grace does not allow for these practices at all,
and the only way to avoid them completely is for people to stop being so
carnally obsessed with predicting the future and interpreting prophesy,
using claims of dreams and visions,
and self-approval with flattering and admiration.
Matthew 16:
1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that
He would show them a sign from heaven.
2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say,
‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’;
3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’
Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky,
but you cannot discern the signs of the times.
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given
to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.
