The proposed amendment simply states: "The term 'person' or 'persons' shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional equivalent thereof." But Keith Mason of Personhood USA tells OneNewsNow the ACLU filed the appeal on behalf of Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion-provider in the country. "I think Planned Parenthood is really troubled and scared by personhood," Mason suspects. "Personhood hits the core of the entire abortion industry because it protects every human by love and by law." The successful establishment of the constitutional amendment could mean the end of Planned Parenthood's abortion business, so Mason believes the abortion-provider is running scared. "At every stage in different states they have sued to keep people [from] even gathering signatures," he reports. "For instance, in Colorado they sued us all the way to the state Supreme Court and lost at every stage, even for us to gather signatures to place it on the ballot. And Colorado's a liberal state, so they didn't want to take any chances with personhood measures." Meanwhile, the Mississippi Supreme Court has not said whether it will accept the case or let stand lower-court rulings that favor the ballot measure.
