This time it is the remote Grimsvotn caldera erupting. It erupts every 5 years recently. Usually small and short lived eruptions. Now its been 7 years since last eruption and this one is HUGE!! The plume reaches 20km in height. The place is in the most middle of nowhere one can be in Iceland in a center of a large ice cap. Access is hard, one needs to have a big 4x4 to get there. Airplanes can go close because the ash cloud reaches into all directions with alot of lightning activity. Those on the ground near the volcano risk been zapped by one of them. Me and Gunnar Gestur went north Sprengisandur. We were about 60-70km from the eruption but we still had to look up to see the top of the plume.
