I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. ;)

One more example of protest. Boston Tea Party. That was totally illegal but we celebrate that. Okay I am out of this thread.

Years ago, the Westboro group came up to Vermont to do a series of protests. My office had a good view of the protests and me and my co-workers looked out my window at the goings on.

Let me first say, the Westboro group has vile things on their posters, profanity, anti-semitic statements. What they were shouting would earn then a quick request to leave most any church because of shouting vulgarities. They were mostly red faced with anger, screaming profanities, and making racial comments as well. They don't share the gospel but instead, condemn any and everyone who disagrees with them to hell.

Another group arrived which was liberal, new age, to counter the protest. This group was relatively well behaved.

My co-workers who were not believers, commented on the actions of the 'Christians'. I was in the unfortunate position of having to explain that Westboro Baptist church is probably not really born again Christians. The dueling protests were one radical non-Christian group which pretended to the title Christian vs. another better behaved group which were not Christian and didn't claim to be Christian. It was quite a sad site.

In the end, Westboro marched down the street to leave and the larger protest of New Agers marched behind them as if escorting them out of town, with the New Agers singing the Battle hymn of the Republic.

I think Westboro will have something close by to protest, so maybe they will stay put, but I doubt it as they enjoy the publicity. Westboro does much more damage as they are claiming to be a Church and therefore doing the filth and hatred they do in the name of Jesus. Nothing could be worse then misrepresenting Who Jesus is, what He did, and why He came.

Not that I have strong feelings about this.... :hmmm::madgrin:

A reminder from the WCF ToS (Terms of Service or Board Rules)

The use of profanity will not be tolerated. This includes sexually explicit, vulgar, or other profane language or usernames as well as any any signs or symbols that suggests such.

You may not post any material that is disrespectful of God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, or the Bible.

Debate the subject, not the person.

It is possible to disagree about a doctrine or subject under discussion without insulting the person with whom you are debating.

Also remember that the fact that a person disagrees with you does not mean they are attacking you as a person.

Respect each other in the love of God! This is the main reason that threads get stopped, shut down, and even deleted! Users that cannot respect others will be banned. (Lev. 19:18)

This is a privately funded message board, we reserve the right to edit or remove any postings that we feel are detrimental to the fellowship on this board, or detrimental to the witness of the board, as we see fit. It is not possible to read every post. If you see a board violation, please report it using the “Report Post” button.

God bless,

GE

And MLK knew full well he would get arrested when he protested in Alabama. I am just saying there is a whole distance between protesting at military funerals and holding up signs saying <<< vulgar, hateful things >>> versus peacefully painting a house a rainbow color.

I'm not sure that painting the house a rainbow color is the best solution.

Prov. 15:1

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Yes they are. Totally. If we followed two wrongs don't make a right in every situation, where would the Civil Rights Movement be? Peaceful protests have brought down many injustices.

Romans 12:17-19

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

If everyone followed scripture, there would be no need for the Civil Rights Movement. You cannot serve two masters. You either server the world or you serve Christ ... choose this day whom you will serve.

Tell me, if the homosexual community peacefully protests for marriage rights, are they still living in sin or not?

Let me ask another question.

If there were two peaceful groups, one a Christian group claiming homosexuality is sin that will lead to hell if there is no repentance, and another group that promotes gay rights and equality, which group would you support and why?

The civil rights movement was and is a far cry from what is going on in this scenario. No one here condones what the Westboro cult does. We also don't condone people that deliberately antagonize others. What this group is doing is not protesting to change immoral laws. They put up a giant banner in order to provoke a vile and despicable cult/mob. MLK did not crash KKK parties, or neonazi white supremacist groups. He peaceably assembled and protested the government.

To compare this group to MLK is absurd, and it diminishes the significanct accomplishments of MLK.
