"Freedom OF religion..." not "Freedom FROM religion..."
Guest shiloh357
Most of the founding fathers, regardless of denomination, were against the government being involved in the church, or any government run church. Actually, that is not exactly true. John Adams and Samuel Adams supported a state church. Had it not been for the Baptists of Virginia fighting freedom of religion, we would all be Episcopalians. The freedom of religion clause in the 1st ammendment was originally meant to protect Christians from government sanctioned religion and a government run, state run church. The founding fathers were not altogether fixated on freedom of religion, simply freedom from England. Without the freedom of religion clause, Virginia would not have voted in favor of ratifying the Constitution and they needed Va. for ratification. There are two different governing systems entirely. Mat 20:25 But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. Mat 20:26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; Mat 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: The United States Government is either exercising dominion over us as a Gentile Government or they are ministering to us a servants of the Church, you decide what to believe. Peace is only in Christ.
