Concerning Matthew 27:52-53,, did these saints return to the grave or are they now with Jesus in Heaven?  Thanks, Debra

I believe they are the souls that wait under the alter.

Revelations ch. 6:9 And when he had opened the fitth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

v10:And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

v11: And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

I believe the bodies are in the grave but, their souls are present with the Lord.

Revelation 6:9- In this verse John was given a vision of those who will be killed because of their beliefs during the end times.In this vision those believers who had been killed under God's alter in Heaven and are described as "souls".It states that believers in heaven are in spiritual/non-corporeal form unti the resurrection.

And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake; and the rocks were rent; and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised; and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.  Matthew 27:50-53

Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

 

Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

 

And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord. Acts 9:36-42
