Smearing the dead so that the living surviving relatives have to then contend with the assaults on their family by proxy is disrespectful and cowardice. And it certainly isn't an example of Christian compassion. compassion is also for the living. The truth will set you free means much more than it's biblical references. If we are to love our brothers, we are not to allow them to not be hurt for their own benefit and sometimes that hurt is the realization that they have been kept in the dark about that which they believe is true and to have had those they trust keep them inn the dark because of a false sense of morality. If we allow people to think kindly of those who were anything but unkind, then we allow them to seem to others to sympathize with the actions the remembered person is known for.
