a root of bitterness i think is what the kjv says and that is concerning dont let a root of bitterness grow in your heart as it did in cains , or esaus heart or any other s who harbor bad feelings and they grow to be a filling of the heart and that can lead to many bad things. we should always let peace fill our hearts and let it grow

The terminology of "bitter root" in the context, really wasn't about how we felt about each other. We have to use the Word of God to determine what a phrase means, rather than going by how it sounds. I DO understand that it sounds like someone feeling "bitter" towards someone else, but in context, it is really about disobedience and false worship worming it's way into the body to contaminate and defile. This is what has always been the downfall of God's people, they get involved in another gospel/another god, that is not based upon God's Word and what He established.

Deuteronomy 29:18

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.

Hebrews 12:15

See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

In His Love,

Suzanne

yes anytime you let something grow it will have roots that get further and further in the ground and if we let hate just start to grow it will soon fill our hearts

Again, the terminology is not about "hate" but about false worship infiltrating into the body.

How does one be good without striving for perfection?

The focus is not perfection, the focus is the love of Christ Jesus and God's Word. It is to believe Him.

tsth... cain hated his brother abel , the root of bitterness grew and he killled his brother. now tell me why hate isnt the focus if it had not been for hate the root would not have grown if it had not been for sin the root would not have grown. cain could have "nipped" the hate in the bud and shown love for GOD and for his brother abel
