Terri Schiavo was NOT on life support. She had a feeding tube. There is a big difference. LIFESUPPORT artificially maintains breathing and heartbeat. A feeding tube provides nutriton to a physically disabled person. Now will we murder babies because they are unable to feed themselves? will we murder elderly because they are a nuisance? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is one thing that I HOPE comes out of this discussion: That the term "life support" will be more rigidly defined. By anyone's reasonable standards, food and water are not "life support." If it is, then guess what? We are ALL on life support. That's why the Zogby poll got differing results. Rational people understand that food and water do not constitute life support. But certain pieces of legislation do include food and water. I think that those definitions need to be changed. This is what I have also pondered over in my mind. And, as many have said, we would not allow our worst criminals to die that way. Wondering: Doesn't our courts dis-allow hearsay testimony??
