I have never really fully understood what it meant. This title is used most of often to describe God in the bible over 240 times. It shows up in most bible versions as "Lord of Hosts". In Hebrew Lord is actually God name Yahweh, Yahovah, Yahuwah or some other variant depending on your school of teaching. Tsebaoth/Sabbaoth often translated as Tsa'va means Armys or Commader of Armies and it comes from another root word Tsavo which means to command an Army. So used to together Yahweh Tsa'va refers to Yahweh being the Commander of Armies. Just food for thought.
