Several Illinois firefighters have quit after officials appointed a convicted arsonist as the head of their fire department.

During Monday’s meeting, the Prairie Du Pont Fire District Board of Trustees removed John Rosencranz as chief of the volunteer fire department and replaced him with assistant chief Jerame Simmons. The decision resulted in 10 of the department’s 13 members quitting right then and there, according to KPLR.

In 1998, Simmons pleaded guilty to arson for lighting a vacant home on fire and setting a small fire at a high school. Simmons, who was 18 at the time, received probation.

What's next? Seriously.

So, he successfully completed the terms of his probation, was given a second chance at life and chose a field that helps him to continue to right the wrong he did?

Good job, good luck and may God bless him.

I agree with you but that is the way this world is. Very few second chances. Just like when a convict gets out of jail. The world makes it difficult for them.

OyVey!? Really?

Ok, let us see if there is consistency in the argument a convicted, guilty, arsonist deserves this office because he got out of prison after an arson conviction.

A convicted Pedophile. Gets out of prison, spies to be a supervisor in a daycare center.

Should he get the job?

A serial rapist.

Serves his time. Gets out of prison. Applies for a job at a battered women's shelter.

Should he get the job?

After all, those men successfully completed the terms of their probation, and were given a second chance at life by being released from prison. And now they've  chosen a field that helps them to continue to right the wrong they did. By seeking,as convicted predators of children and women, to.....

(Insert mind readers of convicted Pedophiles and rapists here.)

@Delattre and @Missmuffet,

Consider those hypotheticals in light of your defense of a convicted arsonist. Who could get a second chance at a job other than with a fire station.

After all, that is the way this world is. Very few second chances. Just like when a convict gets out of jail. The world makes it difficult for them.

And btw, Delattre, saying Oy Vey to a post that asks God to protect people who are served by the firehouse Jerame Simmons heads?

"...According to court documents, Jerame Simmons went to the basement of Dupo High School, gathered toilet paper and ceiling tiles and lit them on fire, knowing that a woman was present in the building. The small fire didn't lead to a larger fire, and no one was injured."
