So many questions came to mind as I read this verse. If I am reading this correctly, the chief of the fathers were the singers in the Temple. Is this what I have seen and heard from Cantors, who to my ears are not so much singing as 'heralding' God's Word? When I looked at the word chamber [H3957] lishkah, it is used both for storage and personal accommodations. This left me wondering if supervision of storage chambers was the full time job of the fathers. Then I looked at another translation, the OJB 33 And these are the meshorerim (singers), family heads of the Levi’im, who remained in the Peturim Chambers; for they were employed in that work yomam valailah. I can not find anything in the interlinear for using the word Peturim in the verse, or a definition. This would really help if the use of this word could be clarified, as it seems to clarify the type of chamber referenced.
