It takes my mind off of all the things that make me depressed and reminds me of His goodness. It returns me to a state of mind where I know He is working in my heart and in my life, and it reminds me that that there is truly no greater joy than to have intimacy with the One who made me and who loves me most of all! I think you right on it...regardless of how depression happens isolation is the result...a detachment tha says no one knows or cares how I really feel...That is the reason the answer is always external to my thinking...The Christian needs to expse himself/herself to the logic of the Kingdom...Non-christians will find it in caring for or getting involved in serving others...because again the answer is external

I would say don't let your search for answers stop there. I would keep searching my heart and ask God to search your heart and reveal to you what he sees. When I used to get depressed I would take an herbal supplement which helped alot but, I didn't want to be reliable on them. What I do now is lay off the caffeine, and exercise. Praying helps alot too!

Remember always the beautiful things that he put on this earth to inspire us and give beauty to our lives. His creation and nature. It depends on where you live but a walk in nature and reminder of Gods beautiful creation can help you it is also very important to get proper exercise and look after your health with proper food rest and sleep. This may sound basic but looking after the temple and spending time in Gods presence will help him heal our hearts. There we can hear his voice and take a path of action that can be steps leading out of the valley and onto higher plains of blessing. At this time one must walk very closely with the Lord, he will strenghten his precious saints through this time.

For me, the bible helped. I wrote down verses which were joyful, God's promises, verses which commanded me to be joyful or promised me joy and said them aloud. I prayed. Kept in contact with God basically. 1 Thess 5:16-18 Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong in Christ Jesus. I would have my good cry, but then I would go to God. Here's a link from a website that really helped me with questions of all kinds.
