Well I have to keep my landline phone for internet service, but otherwise I would get rid of my landline phone and just keep my cell phone. What other cheaper or better services can I get.

Because I can not afford both for too much longer

as truster says it does depend on wher you live, if it is in Britain then you can look into having a special with bt which would mean that you can use your house phone as a mobile ...dont know how it works but have been told that it can be done.

also do you have prepaid/contract or pay as you go phone for a mobile? you may be able to use a pay as you go ( and most contract phones can be changed over to pay as you go ) and then you can get incoming and only use the mobile when you can afford to top up. Third option, my son in law goes on line and finds deals with the mobiles that give you approx 400 mins and 100 txts a month and if you remember to send back vouchers you can claim back 90 -100 % of the money you pay..you tend to need to pay the first three months and then reclaim it and continue to do that for each three months just read the small print .

i still have no cell phone, and i manage to survive! BUT.... i pay the bills on TWO cell phones, one for my husband, and one for one of his friends who is way behind on his bill... and it's KILLING me!

seriously, look into digital phone service. i have call waiting, caller ID, call waiting WITH caller ID, call forwarding, call blocking, in fact, i have every bell and whistle that i'm aware exists... and on top of that i get unlimited long distance to anywhere in the US or Canada, and three free minutes per month to any other country of my choice. and for all that, i pay a whopping $25/month.

I prefer landline for a lot of reasons. I had a cell phone but no landline phone for a while. I paide $60 a month for my cellphone could call anywhere in USA and Mexico for that price each month with no extra charges. This was ok for a while as I had cable internet at the time.

But th ecable bill was close to 100 a month so I went exploring. I had been paying out 160 a month for cell phone an cable for internet...

With Verizon freedom package I would pay 40 a month to call anywhere in the USA and Peurto Rico (don't know anyone there) and then pay 15 a month for my internet. We don't need cable tv as we dont watch cable tv and onlly watch VHS and DVD videos.

So I would only pay a total of 70 a month for phone and internet (taxes included) if I switched to verizon and let the cell phone go. Beat paying 160 a month.

Advantages to cell phone...being able to take them everywhere with you (if you travel a lot they are great for that purpose) the disadvantage of that is everyone calling you EVERYWHERE you go and ALL the time and God forbidyou turn your phone off then you get heck for that because they could not reach you and did not understand why you had a CELL phone if you were not going to have it on to answer it.....

The only advantage I found of the cell phone was having it with me wherever I went...however, i hardly go anywhere. I'm at home most of the time, work from home etc ....and so most of my calls were when I was home...

I saved money by ditching hte cell phone and fouind out after ditching it that I can now take my child out or just go to the store myself in PEACE...Im' not interrupted when Im talking to the cashier about my purchases by a phone ringing....I'm not interrupted while driving down the road by the ring of the phone...I dont have the stress of feeling I have to ansewr the phone all the time cuz its ringing wherever I go...

And best of all I dont have that ringing sound in my ears anymore cuz the house phone fo rsome reasons does not ring as much as the cell phone did...GO FIGURE...all of a sudden since I ditched the cell phone nobody has a reason to call me...nobody has anything they need from me...and it hardly ever rings now and my life is so much more peaceful and so much less stress....

I will NEVER have a cell phone again. If I ever decide to take a long trip (for me a long trip is to a town 1/2 hour away) but if I ever decide to go further than that I can get one of those ones you buy minute cards for and use it for breakdown on road or something...but to go out to dinner with a friend or to chruch or to the dr or to the store or just out to get away for a day and constnatly have to make sure I have the phone with me or having to answer it when someone calls or...well you get the point...

Now when I leave the house all I have to remember is purse and keys...no more asking...WHERES THE PHONE???

My sister only had a mobile for a while (she got the landline for the internet chiefly) and she did okay with that, the only problem was it meant it was quite expensive to call her and if she didn't have a signal for a while or anything no one could get hold of her.

I also have digital phone and its nothing short of amazing. I have a cell with Telus which cost me $20 a month for 200 anytime minutes and unlimited evenings and weekends. Although telus doesnt have such great service out in the prairies... :25:

*grins ruefully* Ah Telus...can't live with you, can't live without you.

I agree...for cost effectiveness, you can't beat digital. You'll get your internet and phone both, plus no Long Distance worries.
