I just joined this group but the talk on Glycemic Index is right on. I was overweight and prediabetic. I discovered the low GI lifestyle and it changed my life. I am now in great shape. I became a personal trainer and my wife and I do seminars in churches teaching people what the Bible says about being overweight and what we can do about it. You can learn a lot about the GI diet and everything at www.fatfree4jesus.org. It is good to see this type of discussion on these boards. So many people are in bondage to being overweight and they do not know how to be set free. Keep up the good work and hang in there! :whistling:

Wow, thanks, Fit! :24: What an inspiration! Please keep visiting this thread and offering your input, if you have time! :24:

That's how I feel at the weight I'm at, in bondage. Before I got pregnant for my little girl, I was not quite 130 lbs. After three years, I was still at 188 lbs. I've lost 9 lbs this past week, eating what I've posted in this thread.

I haven't even been exercising because at the moment, I have shin splints. I can't wait til I'm healed up so I can start walking again.

Here's what I had since last I posted:

1 small box of raisins

1/2 cup pretzels

1/2 cup oatmeal

1 cup 2% milk

7.5 oz canned peaches(rinsed off the light syrup)

1/2 oz almonds

2 graham crackers

Okay, the graham crackers and the pretzels could've been something healthier, but I was hurting at the time, and it was easier just to grab something already fixed than stand up and cut up a veg. I'm thinking of scraping some carrots and slicing some peppers and celery and just throwing them in a Ziploc when I'm not hurting, so that when I do start hurting, they'll already be prepped. Whatcha think??

Man, I swear, if it wasn't for this thread.......... <_<

The key to successful LONG TERM weight loss is to do whatever you can to accomplish 2 goals: Keep your blood sugar level (avoid spikes) and Keep your metabolism cranked up. Eating low GI foods helps with the blood sugar and eating 3 meals and 3 snacks per day helps with your metabolism. Exercising helps both. Exercise actually makes your insulin receptors more sensitive so your body releases less insulin which is a good thing.

DON'T skip meals and especially don't skip breakfast. Exercise 30-45 minutes as many days per week as possible even if it is just a walk around the house over and over while the baby naps... or doing a Denise Austin DVD. The other big thing to keep the metabolism up is to add lean muscle mass. Every pound of muscle you add burns 50 calories per day just sitting there! So doing some squats and lunges and even pushups a few times per week will make HUGE differences in the long run.
