I'm from South Africa and up to 1994, when the 'apartheid' era ended, we still celebrated Ascension Day. It was then still a public holiday. But most of the churches here still has a service on Ascension Day and also on a Thursday (which this year will be May 17). Even in some of the public schools they have a service before they start going to class. April 8th - May 17th. Including Easter, 23 days left in April from April 8th - April 30th. 17 days of May. 23 + 17 =

If I'm not mistaken, isn't it one of the Seven Holy Days of Obligation? Do me a favor, don't start an official holiday! I can't bear the commercialism. Aww, come on, VelvetVoice, don't spoil my fun. I even had a symbol of the day all picked out. A white dove to symbolize ascending and purity! We could make white chocolate doves to pass out. We can let our resident poets write cards special for the event. That way they can use their God given talents for His good. Yes Biblicist I love the white chocolate idea
