Several years ago when I was in seminary (not cemetary) in one of my theology classes we were discussing the Eccumenical movement - churches of all manner of denominations (Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Charismatic, etc.) accepting each other as Brothers and Sisters in Christ and working together in common community, social, and political projects/ministries. Many Para-Church ministries (CBN, TBN, Joyce Myers, etc.) have employees and supporters from a wide denominational range of churches. I was attending Regent University which is a very Eccumenical (Charismatic) school, having students from many different denominations and all over the World. Anyhow, one of the students in my class was thoroughly agitated by the discussion, stood and passionately (actually he sounded angry) asked: "I just want to know one thing! Where do you draw the line doctrinally when it comes to considering someone a brother in Christ? I mean, look at the Catholics. They worship Mary. They baptize babies. They worship idols. They..... (listing 5 or 6 things that almost all Evangelicals disagree with Catholics on). Just where do you draw the LINE!?" He then sat down. The class was silent for several minutes. The professor didn't even speak. But I heard God say: "First, I look on the heart. And second, you ALL have Idols in your life!!!" He sounded angry and irritated. Well, being unsure of myself and frankly, afraid to speak such a confrontational word, I kept silent. Class discussion eventually picked back up, but his question never was addressed by the professor or other students. Class ended, but for the next two days, I could not stop thinking about what I heard the Lord say. So the next class, I stood and shared what I believe I heard God say. I share this personal word with you to encourage you that salvation and relationship with God is a matter of the heart, far more than salvation is a matter of holding to a specific set of doctrines. This is true because we All have idols in our lives, and none of us even come close to partially understanding God. I do believe that God is just and righteous, looking past our actions and wrong beliefs, primarily looking at our attitudes and core values and where we place our faith. See, my faith is not in my understanding of scripture, my faith and trust is in God. Thus I am very open to being corrected, because I assume that I'm blind in many ways, but I don't know that I'm blind there because I'm blind. Jesus said that you would know his followers by their love for one another. He didn't say that we would know eachother by a certain set of doctrines. You can have all of your doctrines "right" and still not have a relationship with God. Likewise, you can have a boatload of wrong doctrines and yet have a vibrant relationship with God. It's relatively easy for God to correct errant doctrine, if our attitudes are right. But it's impossible even for God to correct our doctrines if our attitudes are wrong. Just food for thought! Steven Houck The Bible warns us that in the last days in which we live there will be many false Christs-those who claim to be Christ but who are imposters. Jesus said, "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ; and shall deceive many." (Matt. 24:4-5). We who profess to be Christians must take heed. We must be very careful that we are not deceived. Our calling is to trust, love, and follow the true Christ and Him only. We may have nothing to do with the false Christs who are so numerous in our day. We know about the Christ of the cults and other religions. He is a good man, a prophet, the first creation of God, a great spirit, a divine idea, or even a god himself. But he is not true and eternal God. He receives his existence from another who is greater than he. He is not the Christ of the Bible. We are not deceived by this Christ. He is a false Christ. We know about the Christ of Roman Catholicism. They profess that He is true God. He suffered and died for the forgiveness of sin. He arose again, ascended into heaven, and is coming again. But he is not a complete Savior. The Christ of the Roman Catholics can not save sinners without their own good works and the intercession of priests. He is not the Christ of the Bible. Well, that is something the elect of God will not need to worry about according to matt 24: 23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. My GOD is JESUS CHRIST and in HIM dwells All the Fullness of the Godhead bodily. There are many so called christians that are either deceived,lost,or blinded to the truth because they are saying that Christians and Muslims worship the same God. Moses acknowledged JESUS [i AM] as the LORD GOD in Exodus chapter 3 and JESUS makes it clear in John Chapter 8 that HE is The I AM. When "doubting" Thomas saw the ressurected JESUS he made the statement " My LORD and my GOD". The people who practice Judisiam or Islam do not recognize JESUS CHRIST as GOD [GOD the SON] I love this OT passage. Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. there really is no denying who Jesus Christ is given that passage. I guess all God really wanted was a bunch of mindless drones who could 'pretend' to love Him because He forced them to from the foundation of the world.
