The Forming of the Body of Christ. Israel: Overlap.
OVERLAP.
After the transition time there is an overlap of God`s purposes - for Israel and the Body of Christ. Let`s look at Israel first.
God gave Israel different Feasts to commemorate something in their past but also to be a prophetic calendar to be fulfilled from Calvary to the Millennium,(the Lord`s rule through Israel over the nations). The first two Feasts had already been fulfilled.
Passover - coming out of Egypt by the blood, and Jesus sacrifice on the cross.
First Fruits - first sheaves of the harvest - Jesus rising from the dead.
The Feast of Pentecost.
Gk, word meaning fiftieth, (day) from Firstfruits.
Also called Feasts of Weeks,(7 weeks & 1 day).
This was to remember the giving of the Law and the rest of the grain harvest. The fulfilment was the giving of the Holy Spirit and more of the harvest of souls.
The 12 disciples and many others, (120) were gathered together waiting for the promised Holy Spirit.
`Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place....and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit...`(Acts 2: 1 - 4)
Then because it was the Feast Day there were many devout Jews from every nation gathered together. When they heard the disciples speaking in the different languages they were amazed and wondered what was happening. Peter stood up and explained. He quoted the prophet Joel concerning the giving of the Holy Spirit.
`And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh...` (Acts 2: 17, Joel 2: 28)
The `last days` began when Jesus ascended, for that is the beginning of the Lord`s work heading towards the summing up of all things. It incorporates the holding of Israel`s purpose, then the Body of Christ maturing, the tribulation and the millennium.
Thus the nation of Israel then had the opportunity to turn to God if the leaders would receive Jesus as Lord and Christ, by the Holy Spirit. Peter witnessed of Jesus to His Jewish brethren. They were convicted and told to repent and be baptised. (Acts 2: 36 & 37)
However the rulers of the nation of Israel never repented.
