  1. I am simply DISGUSTED. :24: Like Fez said, these are things they aren't even building in their own countries. I don't get it. Out of the whole of the United States of America, the only place they picked to build their mosque is ground Zero???? This is serious symbolic invasion. And like the article said : who is funding this $50 million project? The worst part is that the project was OVERWHELMINGLY voted by the city councilors.... Lord Jesus, come!!
  2. Hi Silvia, That must be the prophetic traditions (hadith) that you read. It is found in various collections of books.... The Quran doesnt say anything of the sort. There is a hadith that says that the majority of the people in hell are and will be women.
  3. I understand you so well!!! In fact I go through the same thing often, though not always for the same reasons. The feelings you describe are very familiar. I am also looking forward to seeing what advice others have to offer on this matter. In the meantime, I trust that God will warm your heart this moment, in Jesus name. :emot-hug:
  4. tHAT'S how I feel too. EXACTLY!
  5. I agree with Nebula because I myself have have watched many of his TV appearances on various Arab Tv stations where the poor young man would get threatened, insulted, humiliated even by the show hosts, and I have seen how he defends his Christian faith with so much passion each and every time and how he says publicly on Arab televisions how the God of Islam suffers from split personality disorder and how Muhammad was a terrorist ... Now, for any one who has had any experience being in an Islamic Arab nation, the fact that this young man even dared to say these things and face all kinds of aggressivity says a lot about his faith in Christ. You can find some of the TV shows on www.memritv.org (with shows and news reports from many Arab channels around the world). No disrespect to fox news but they have not much of a clue about Arab-Islamic cultural dynamics.
  6. Amen Joe, Amen! Just because the Obama Admin wants to deport him has nothing to do with his testimony of Faith in our Risen Lord. It may well be because of it with this bunch of sychophants. AMEN AMEN AMEN! I am actually shocked by some of the comments on this thread.... So what proves any of our conversions on this forum are true and that any of us are Christians and not some spies from Satanism or other occult organizations? Why are we dismissing a fellow brother's confession that Jesus is Lord just because of who his father was? Wasn,t Paul among the prosecutors of Christians? May God help us Christians, because it looks like the devil is trying to win some of us over to his side, by making us divided and suspicious of one another. Where is love and charity? Will it take for him to be beheaded on televisions by the same terrorists some of you are insinuating he is with for you to believe his testimony? God bless.
  7. I love father Zakaria Butros and admire his work, especially since his life is constantly under threat. I listen to his shows regularly, and also there is a show called Islam Explained (in Arabic, but some of them are translated with subtitles on You tube) does the same thing he does and also invites him. There are also dynamic apologetics people (Acts 17, Answering Islam, Answer Islam) for the English speaking world who really do an awesome job. Most Muslims don't even know the Quran, nor the life of their prophet actually, as you have probably already noticed. So they base a lot of their knowledge on what the preachers say. You are right that with them the Quran holds a high place, but I found when discussing with them that they always manage to twist it around by bringing in another contradictory verse. So what I have found that makes them tick is when I show how Muhammad's life becomes increasingly violent, perverse, immoral, and blood-thirsty...because they can't explain it away with anything else. From a quiet, kind and sensitive man, Muhammad becomes wicked.. (ahem, the influcence of the evil spirit that "revealed" the Quran to him, perhaps?) . You see what I mean?
  8. Ow, Or'el, I see what he is up to now. I met plenty of people like this, and I once was like this. I would avoid him altogether. He probably has never read the Bible and has just heard Islamic preachers state that the Bible is filled with contradictions. He would never listen to anything you have to say because he is not respecting your standpoint already. Proof of it is he comes to debate and not to listen. Wish him peace and remain sweet and polite (as we Christians are) and non-aggressive (because Our God doesn't need defending , contrary to theirs). If he's too much of a hassle though, as he seems to be, try to change coffee shops altogether. I will pray right now for this lost soul. Much love and don't let this man bother you at all at all...
  9. Other one, you expressed more effectively what I was trying to say all along this thread! A Christ-like attitude is what wins others to Christ as they see us as walking embodiment of the Gospel. If Muslims like to burn things and show their faith or opinion with acts of violence (remember the Muhammad cartoons, or the Van Gogh murder over the fil he made), let us show the world that we Christ-ians, we know how to do something that onlyy the Spirit of God could be making us do: LOVE even our enemies. And as Christ-ians we are able to say: FATHER forgive them for they know not what they do. That is powerful testimony that we are not ordinary beings: we are children of the Living God, and that for us, it is not by might, not by power, but by the Spirit of God.
  10. Right. There are many contradictory verses in Quran about the People of the Book (Jews and Christians). Each verse corresponds to a specific period in Muhammad's life: the period when he thought Jews and Christians would crown him prophet; the period when he realized that Jews and Christians were not accepting his self-proclaimed legitimacy. The verse you just quoted is from the second period. The Quran, when studied in relations to Muhammad,s life really reflects the whims and moods of the man and his own personal and political issues... each time he felt rejected or had a disagreement with a group of people, "God" conveniently revealed a verse against them on that same day. So if you want to show the great "peace record" of Islam, I suggest you present people with the history and the life of their own prophet. because if you use the Quran, it always gets explained away. In fact, the historical massacres of innocent men, women, and children, as well as the capture of Christian and Jewish women to be turned into slave-concubines are enough proof to defeat the Islamic law argument. There is so much cruelty in Muhammad and his friends that I can't even begin to talk about it here. His early Muslim biographers all mention the horrors and wickedness of the prophet and his companions in detail. And that is what most Muslims dont know about. They keep thinking their prophet was a holy and loving man. The Quran is filled with contradictions so that is obviously not where the teachings in the mosques come from at all. Just to clarify based on your question about the content of mosque sermons.
  11. That is exactly what we have been doing over here with our network for evangelizing Muslims and you would be surprised at the number of Muslims who came to Christ! And we usually suggest they start with the Gospel according to John because it is really answers the question of who Jesus is. Interestingly, the parts that discuss Jesus in the Quran are so contradictory that the Islamic argument that Jesus is only a prophet gets defeated by the Quran itself... There is a ex-Muslim scholar and imam from my country of origin who is now a preacher and evangelist who is really good at using the Quran to demonstrate that Jesus can only be God. Great suggestion... But of course, O'rel you have to go with what you feel God wants you to do on this.
  12. Point of correction: The verse you quoted translates (kafirun) non-Muslims, which is incorrect. In Arabic, kafirun means "those who deny what is truth" and refers throughout the Quran to the Meccan polytheist. Jews and Christians are called "ahl-al-kitab" (people of the Book). Muslims are not authorized to kill them or prevent them from living in peace, except in self-defense as they were recipients of God's revelation. I just wanted to clear this up, as many do not know Islamic jurisprudence on the treatment of Jews and Christians. To answer your question about what Muslims teach in mosques, it varies from one mosque to the other. Just as Christianity has different denominations and variations on political/social leanings, Muslims are a very diverse grou^p of people. We can discern three main trends in Islamic movements (contemporary 21st century): - the reformist/salafi : these are the more radical ones that promote a literal interpretation of the Quran as well as a return to a pure "authentic" Islam. This group may or may not aslo aspire to an islamic state. They are a small minority and are considered with suspicion by other muslims. They are howvewr moore vocal in the media ( or rather the media likes to put them in the forefront of the news since it relates to violent events in the middle east) - the traditional/popular muslims: these are the majority of Muslims aroudn the world (95%). This trend is representative of what Islam has been historically before the 18th and 19th and 20th century reformist/salafi/wahabbi radical and politicized movement. In this trend we find the mystics and an Islam that culturally adjusted to local traditions and social organizations. This trend throughout history has been very tolerant of other religions and has even happily incorp
  13. Well, i don't see anything wrong with reading it for educational purposes. How can we witness to Muslims when we don't know their book? You know the Truth and you have no reason to be afraid of the Quran . It is a book written by (misguided) men. But if you feel so uncomfortable that you are afraid of bringing it into your home then just throw it away anf forget about it. It is no big deal at the end of the day. It is just another book. Nothing more, nothing less. So throw it away and forget about it ... but don't let it scare you or occupy too much of your thoughts...
  14. I wouldn,t accept her if you really don't feel like it. Especially since you don't consider her a friend, or even a nice school memory.
  15. I hope they plan to equip the tube with air bags or it might not be as "rapturing" to get bumped on the sides of it and against the heads of other people!!! .... So do they have to line up for this, or is it like 2 or 3 sucked in at one time??? No... I am serious!
  16. Blien, wow you got quite a detailed reply there! Nice! Please keep us posted on how it goes! God be with you!
  17. Last summer, as a brand new couple of month-old Christian, I watched a CBN podcast on the practice of soaking prayer. You can find a definition of it HERE In the video, people were lying on the floor, immersed in God's presence (?). I was very new to the faith and felt it was a bit much and just didnt feel right with the soaking prayer being taught during a seminar. However, I also know that spiritual experience is heterogenous because Our God is not limited. I am interested in hearing from people who have experienced this, practiced it, or any views on this, as I have noticed there are different opinions about it. Among opposing views that claim it is not Biblical I have found this article God bless you all.
  18. Actually I had the same thought! After I get over this, I will definitely look into this. Thanks Leona, it gives me hope!
  19. Indeed pets aren't allowed but some tenants including myself had pets and I informally assured the owner before moving in that my cat wasn't going to be any trouble. Having the carpeting ruined by my cat would then put me in trouble and at risk of eviction. To be clear, I wasnt in danger of eviction for my cat, but in danger of eviction for my cat ruining anything here yes.
  20. Thank you all. LadyC, you are right. I think I havent yet found the right cat for me. Isaiah: Wegies are pure breeds right? I checked them and they are best for outdoors and large spaces and I need more of an indoor cat. Also, I checked with pure breeds and it seems to cost quite a bit of money. .. when there are sooooo many cats out there needing a home!! Sigh... Nebula: Asking God to guide me in this is something I haven't done, which should have been the first thing to ask. You are so right!! Massorite: Yes, I also think cats in shelters have been through a lot of trauma and also we rarely know their history. It is true that before adopting them from shelters, one has to be ready to deal with trauma and all... lady pear tree: Thanks your words made me feel better. Logos: Thansk for the prayers. I think this time, I will take as much time as needed to select my cat and listen to God,s voice more. God bless you all!
  21. I know I don't even deserve sympathy for this. My cat had been peeing on our beds (my children,s and mine) and on my couch regularly and I was really frustrated. This has been going on since I adopted her. She slept with me every night, though she is the independent type and kept to herself during the day. She never liked to be petted much, only very rarely and would run away quickly afterwards. She peed on my couch again saturday morning and tried to do it sunday but I caught her in time to stop her. I was tired of it and placed an ad online and right away many people answered and I kept changing my mind about wanting her adopted out. Finally, a young lovely girl called me up and I talked with her and agreed to give her the cat. The next 48 hours I was thinking of calling her back to cancel. The girl is starting veterinary studies in college in the fall and loves animals. I feel she will be loved there. Anyways she came and got her Wednesday after I had called her to change my mind again. Bottom line is: This is a nightmare! She is gone, and I miss her, and I feel selfish cruel inhumane for not having invested money and time in a cat behaviourist, or just accepted to live with her pee issues. The only cat lover person I know around here told me to do a ritual with my cat everyday to "comfort her spirit" (needless to say, the lady is part of a spiritualist church!). All my other friends have always thought me stupid for having a cat in my home, let alone dealing with a peeing cat. I just now read that kittens adopted before 12 weeks are not properly done with weaning (emotional and social) from their momcats. This may explain her problem because I adopted her when she was 9 weeks old. A real nightmare here! This is my 3rd cat adoption gone awry: 1st cat was in college, I adopted her as a kitten and my roommate told on me at the housing administration and I was threatened with eviciton. I gave the cat away to an old lady whose husband had just died. 2nd cat was an adult female (2 years old) from the SPCA who was ill and with serious behavioural issues (pooping on different spots of the home, and hating kids) so I treated her (over $250) in the 10 days I had her and returned her to the SPCA where she was adopted right away by a nice lady. Now this one cat. Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me. In each case, I ended up being a transition home for the cats and I tended to spoil them and show them so much affection. Maybe I am destined to be a kind of "foster" home for them, rather than a permanent? Anyways, I just needed to talk about it. Thanks for listening/reading. God bless.
  22. Wow, i only watch two of the movies and I loved them! I didnt know they had more out. I am really into fantastic novels and movies. Right now, i am reading a series by a Quebec writer that is a bit like Narnia, and it is 12 volumes and I am on volume 3.
  23. I did once and I dont recommend world vision in particular. When I sat down and calculated the percentage of what actually goes to the child, it comes to less than 10% of what you send every month. Plus, when I traveled back to Western Africa, I saw the big mansions in which world vision employees live and I said: ohhhh, now I know where those 90% of the money goes. Maybe there are other organizations where the money reaches the children. I think you should look into them.
  24. UPDATES: Chipie has bravely peed again saturday morning on that same sofa, only on a different spot this time. After I spent 15 minutes washing the sofa with all sorts of baking soda/white vinegar/warm water mixture, Chipie walked in from the balcony where she was sunbathing, climbed back on the sofa... and squatted with me standing there !!!!! She was about to pee but I yelled NO and she ran off. I am tired of this... I placed an ad this morning for her, and a young female veterinary medical student called me up and wants to adopt her. Now I am going through a mixture of : i will miss her and i should keep her + she will probably be happier with someone willing to study cat psychology. Almost want to call the student back and tell her to forget it... Sigh. I will miss having her sleeping next to me on my bed, and lying next to my feet when i watch movies. Thanks for the advice everyone! God bless you.
  25. Rich and Charlene Sevcik's God Talk kiosk ministry is taking the gospel outside the church and into a California shopping mall. I watched this today : God Talk in the Mall Why didn't think of this before?
