  1. The Jewish festivals are a part of the Mosaic covenant. Jewish is a synonym for children of Israel, so when you say Jewish, you are referring to Israel. The Mosaic covenant is one complete covenant with a lot of commandments. Tradition says there are 613 commandments in the Mosaic covenant. Since the requirement is to do all that God said, ignoring a single law or breaking a single law violates the covenant. So, to pick and choose a few commands to do and ignoring the rest, is actually a violation of the Mosaic covenant. In the New Testament, it was determined that Gentiles do not need to be circumcised, yet this is a commandment in the Mosaic covenant. In the Tenakh/Old Testament, circumcision is a requirement. Not one command can be altered in the Mosaic covenant. Deut 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. Deut 12:32 “Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it. So, to say that Gentiles need not be circumcised would be taking away from the Mosaic covenant, which is a violation of the Mosaic covenant. That means either the NT is encouraging a violation of the Mosaic covenant, or it is talking about a different covenant then the Mosaic covenant. The NT is actually talking about the New Covenant, prophesied in Jeremiah 31. Which is a different covenant then the Mosaic covenant and will be different. The Jewish holiday of Passover included the Passover lamb. To partake of the Passover lamb, a person had to be circumcised. But the New Covenant has Gentiles included, and these Gentiles are not to be circumcised which again is a violation of the Mosaic covenant commands concerning Passover. The holy days of the Mosaic covenant are strong and unique pointers to the Messiah. Jesus directly fulfilled the spring holy days, and re-applied them to Him and His work. While Passover was in memory of God's redemption of the Jewish people from Egypt, the NT Passover is in memory of Jesus death, to redeem Jews and Gentiles who believe in Jesus completed work. So while the OT commands Passover in memory of the redemption from Egypt, the NT changed Passover from a pointer, to be in memory of Jesus and His redemption offered to all people. It is a different holy day in the NT, as the command concerning the celebration is different. Physical circumcision is not a requirement, raising an actual lamb and taking it to Jerusalem, to the Temple is not required. Of course these changes would violate the Mosaic covenant, if this were part of the Mosaic covenant, but it is not part of the Mosaic covenant. Instead, it is part of the New Covenant with different commands. At the minimum, the commands are to drink wine and eat bread in memory of Jesus. I believe there is one additional command, that this be the Lords supper, and a thimble of wine and a tiny bit of bread is not a supper, but clearly most churches are celebrating the NT Passover at communion, although most don't know this. The day after the sabbath during Passover was the first fruit wave offering. Jesus is the first fruit according to the New Testament, so this comes forward also, as it is the day of resurrection of Jesus. The church celebrates this NT Holy day and calls it Easter. In the OT, starting on the day of the first fruit wave offering, the Mosaic covenant commands the Jewish people to count the omer, for 7 weeks of Sabbaths. On the 50th day of counting of the omer is Shavuot, a solemn assembly of the feast of first fruits. and is the day that God gave the Mosaic covenant and law to the children of Israel. This pointer to Jesus is also in the New Covenant but not like Shavuot in the Mosaic covenant. The 50th day is called Pentecost by the church, and is the day when the disciples received the Holy Spirit and the New law written on their hearts, receiving the New Covenant. While the Mosaic covenant was a pointer to Jesus, the Mosaic covenant is not the New Covenant and the New Covenant is not the Mosaic covenant. They are not " Jewish " feasts -they are God's feasts. The sacrificial, ceremonial aspects of the Mosaic Law, are no longer needed for us since Christ's death and resurrection-true. Circumcision was an issue but not the entirety of the Law. Paul taught true Christians were those circumcised spiritually-the physical or outward symbols of the Mosaic Law were temporary. even circumcised Jews had to be justified through the blood of Christ- Gal 3. There is no indication in the Bible God's Laws or Holy days are to be ignored, but rather in the New Covenant understanding engraved into the minds and hearts of men and women. We have a better relationship with God under the New Covenant. Why didn't the Apostles tell us in direct words the Holy days were abolished? Instead, Paul for one, was a devoted Holy day keeper. Acts 18:21 He defended and taught the Old Testament and God's Laws throughout his life-Acts 24:10-16 In the New Testament the Holy days were still being observed 1 Cor 5:8 but with a newer meaning. Today, is the Feast of trumpets, the first of God's fall festivals-the trouble is 2 billion Christians around the world know nothing about it. But God promises everyone will keep His Holy days in the future when He returns. Many first century false teachers started teaching that Christians could do whatever they wanted to without punishment. Jude warned against such an attitude in Jude 1:4 Read the history of the mainstream Christian holidays and Constantine's corruption surrounding them and ask God for understanding and enlightenment towards His real holy days which portray the plan for salvation. even if you think they are Jewish feasts and you believed all your life that the Law was nailed to the cross, why not start keeping them now? Mankind will be commanded to keep them in the future-what do you have to lose, other than your ties with pagan myths and customs and futile worship. We cannot serve two masters-your choice.
  2. In our eyes we believe that we honor God with certain events and practices. A statue or picture of Jesus violates the 2nd Commandment-but somehow we manage to justify our choice to extol Him, even tho it's forbidden. The same with today's Christian celebrations like xmas that are deeply rooted in ancient customs and pagan practices. Encyclopedias, Google searches, history books all show the deep origins of holidays like xmas. The sanctity of Jesus birth was mostly absent from the Apostolic church. The gospels of Mark and John do not even mention the event. But on the matter of God's Holy days we see the Apostle's observing the Holy days given to mankind in the Old Testament forty years after Jesus' resurrection. Didn't Jesus set the example for us to follow by honoring the Holy days Himself through out His ministry. Where in the Bible were we authorized in clear language to abandon the Holydays. These days were not Jewish festivals-they were given to all of Israel to be a model for us. for all mankind. In prophecy and revelation God reveals that He will require the whole world to observe the Biblical festivals when He returns. As someone mentioned the Holy days are a shadow of things to come.and as the NT reveals they are connected to the redemptive work of Christ and God's master plan for all of mankind. They are much more meaningful to the church today than they were for Israel's history. In a nutshell over the last couple of thousand years traditional Christianity has laid aside God's Holy days and established its own holidays. Don't you think we are overruling God's instructions by replacing His days with man's inventions? Do you think it matters to God? God's law versus ecclesiastical law -which one do you think you should obey?
  3. I don't think Romans is speaking about the Holy days or Sabbaths. But since we know God is opposed to anyone altering His revealed days of worship (Deut 12:32) we should understand it does matter to God what days we worship. There is a lack of divine authorization surrounding the replacement of God's annual feast days. Most of the days we celebrate now have evolved after the Apostolic era. Just having men proclaiming that something is Christian and holy does not make it so. Colossians 2:8
  4. Why do most people keep holidays that are different from the Holy day festivals listed and described in the Bible? When were these feast days like Trumpets, Tabernacles, and atonement abandoned.? Didn't Jesus and the Apostles celebrate them in the New Testament and continued long after Christ rose to Heaven? Revelation, and prophecies, shows us that all mankind will be forced to keep the Feast days in the future during the reign of Christ on earth. If God said these Feast days were to be kept forever, why don't we keep them now rather than holidays like Christmas and Easter that have pagan roots? Christ set the example by observing the Biblical Feast days-why don't we follow Him?
  5. Eternal torment would be a contradiction of scripture. The soul that sins dies-our reward promised by Jesus is eternal life with Him. The penalty for those unrepentant is death-the extinguishing of the human spirit forever, not a perpetual torture in some far off place-that is a pagan belief Yes,it is eternal torment. No those who are in hell do not just die. They have a conscious horrible eternal punishment for an eternity. If you want scripture for this I can give it to you. Yes if you don't mind show me what scripture you refer to-in order to have eternal burning you would have to be spirit like Satan-the ones that are unrepentant are flesh and blood (physical still ) and are burnt in Ghenna fire into destruction. Hell is just as real as Heaven. The Bible teaches a place to which the wicked/unbelieving are sent after death Romans 6:23. Since all of our sin is ultimately against God Psalm 51:4,and since God is an infinate and eternal Being, the punishment for sin, death, must also be infinate and eternal. The punishment of the wicked dead in hell is described in Scripture as "eternal fire"Matthew 25:41,"unquenchable fire" Matthew 3:12,"shame and everlasting contempt" Daniel 12:2,a place where,"the fire is not quenched" Mark 9:44-49,a place of "torment" and "fire" Luke 16:22-24 "everlasting destruction" 2 Thessalonians 1:9,a place where "the smoke of torment rises forever and ever"Revelation 14:10-11 and a "lake of burning sulfur" where the wicked are "tormented day and night forever and ever" Revelation 20:10. Romans 6:23 confirms that the wages of sinning is death, referring to eternal death if one is not repentant. It does not refer to perpetual tormenting but rather the finale in your existence.Look at Malachi 4:1-3 to behold what God's word says of those who will suffer death by fire as a result of sin. People use Rev 20:7-10 but if you read it closely it is only satan and his evil demons that are tormented forever because they are spirit beings. It is not referring to human beings like the beast and the false prophet, they were destroyed forever a thousand years earlier. We will have the same fate if we are unrepentant. We are flesh and blood. We cannot survive gehenna fire when thrown in because we are physical matter. satan burns forever because he is a spirit being. As Malachi says, sinners will become ashes under the feet of the righteous To get into the meanings of everlasting and ever burning and forever and ever in the bible would be a long study in semantics in scripture. Did you know there are four different hells described in the Bible? The prominent one being a " grave". One type of hell is only used when referring to demons. So I subscribe to the understanding that only satan will suffer the fate of eternal punishing.-the incorrigible human sinners are lucky, they will only be destroyed. Merciful means shows mercy. God is described that way in the Bible. He shows mercy by destroying the unrepentant human sinner quickly and permanently, not by perpetually torturing them. Of course God is the supreme Spirit but we are physical and the punishment he deals out is physical because we are not spirit beings. To survive Gehenna we would have to be given the ultimate righteous gift of eternal life which the godly strive to obtain as our reward of salvation. To give that gift to the evil doers for the sake of tormenting them robs God of His most Glorious characteristic-showing mercy.
  6. Because those who are believers will have an eternal life in Heaven with Jesus Christ. Those who are not believers will have an eternal life in hell. Jesus said in Matt 10:28 He is capable of destroying (no longer existing) both body and soul in hell (Gehenna) Jesus does not speak of eternal punishing. Why do people think when the Bible says the wages of sin is death (the destruction of the soul) that it means eternal life in a place of fire? Is God not all loving and merciful and just. Does the hell most people believe in sound like something the God we worship would do? Willfully torturing people for all eternity. By satan's influence it's another lie to turn people against God. From the early centuries onward it was created by man to terrify the people to stay on the straight and narrow. A fear factor ploy-a fire and brimstone tactic.. God says He doesn't want anyone to perish but to those who willfully refuse to obey God there will be total annihilation-that is how God dealt with evil ones in the Bible-not perpetual torment. Is Sodom and Gomorra still burning? No, they were destroyed-suffering the vengeance of eternal fire -Jude 7
  8. Eternal torment would be a contradiction of scripture. The soul that sins dies-our reward promised by Jesus is eternal life with Him. The penalty for those unrepentant is death-the extinguishing of the human spirit forever, not a perpetual torture in some far off place-that is a pagan belief
  9. Eternal life is a gift from God-why would He give you eternal life tormented as most believe?
  10. Jesus primary message and instructions to us, his disciples, is to preach the good news of the coming Kingdom of God. The churches of this world worship the messenger but ignore His message- Matt 24:14
  11. Salt was a symbol of purity. Salt preserves unchanging. I believe it's reference is in regards to preserving the truth and purity of God's word. In the NT as in a seasoning we must not lose our savor for Christ and His work by dilution of the truth
  12. Why did God command a day of rest in the first place? Was it not to be a reminder that God is our creator. God made the Sabbath day holy-something only God can do. Man cannot make a day holy. In the beginning God created days from sunset to sunset. Man started a new day at midnight. In the New Testament days were counted when the sun set. Most authorities recognize Saturday as the seventh day of the week and Sunday as the 1st day of the week. The change to Sunday observance was made by man after the NT was written. What biblical authority do we have for changing the day of rest since only God can sanctify a day not man? Although man has modified calendars throughout history the seven-day weekly cycle has remained intact The days of the week have always remained in their proper order. God entrusted His oracles to be preserved by His divine power to certain people and the Jewish community has maintained that as of today. Today's mainstream churches, though they reject the 7th day Sabbath confirm when it is by acknowledging the Sunday worship to be the 1st day of the week, which would make the previous day the seventh day Biblical Sabbath
  13. read Roman 14:5,6 and 7 The Sabbath is nowhere mentioned in these verses. In fact, the word Sabbath is not even mentioned anywhere in the whole book of Romans. In earlier chapters of the book of Romans Paul glorifies how holy and true the commandments of God are-it would be inconsistent to present the holy day Sabbath as being irrelevant in light of his statements. I can't find any NT writer referring to the Sabbath as just " one day " Too ambiguous to ditch God's sacred commandment, don't you think?
  14. Hi- well by building a relationship with God by reading scripture Jesus worshiped in the temple weekly and set the example for us to do good and fellowship. We should spend time praying to rejuvenate ourselves from the pulls of the world from the previous 6 days. The New Testament church observed the Sabbath weekly. Usually people that believe the 10 Commandments have been fulfilled or abolished only have a problem with the 4 th Commandment and it's requirement to keep and honor a special day. To me it's a blessing and happiness but in this 21st century entrenched in Sunday worshiping and religious holidays not sanctioned by God make it very difficult to break away from that habit and understanding. It's up to the individual to prove that what they are doing is correct.
  15. It would be "man-made limits," as you term it, when one goes about telling others they have to follow something that God commanded only the Israelites to do. First off, if you are going to claim to "keep" the Sabbath, then you have to keep it exactly as God commands it to be kept, not how you think it should be kept or how your church tells you it should be kept. God gives clear guidelines as to how the Sabbath is to be kept, and they are not negotiable. The Sabbath is not a swapped church day from Sunday to Saturday as most Sabbath-keeping churches see it, and they basically do nothing more than that. They worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. They don't keep the Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath has been impossible since the Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. No one can keep the Sabbath without a Temple in Jerusalem, a Levitical Priesthood and a daily sacrifice. One who is "keeping" the sacrifice also has to offer 2 sacrifices on the Sabbath in addition to the regular daily sacrifices. So without a sacrifical system in place, no one can "keep" the sacrifice. Nowhere does Jesus or the Apostles command anyone to attempt to keep the Sabbath. Jesus said in Matthew 19:17 - if you want salvation, keep the commandments. The last time I checked, keeping the sabbath was one of the commandments. Jesus replaced the Levitical priesthood which was a physical and mostly symbolic system of worship Jesus by His sacrifice became our new High Priest under the New Covenant I think Cobalt brings up some very good points Fruitful. You say we must keep the commandments including keeping the Sabbath. Then you say Jesus replaced the Levitical priesthood which was physical but mostly symbolic worship... Are you saying that the way God established the Sabbath is not to be taken literally? Interesting. Where is this found in Scripture? How exactly do you celebrate the Sabbath? Or Bionically speaking how would you recommend a Christian celebrate the Sabbath? God bless, GE Sorry for late reply-vacation and renovations put me off course. But Hebrews 9:11-16 shows that Christ's divine office has superseded the Levitical priest hood which handled certain physical ordinances and washings associated with the temple liturgy. Jesus perfects us spiritually rather than physically. The Sabbath was and should still be a memorial of creation. It's the only weekday that God dignified with a name. The Sabbath is still a sign between God and man forever-that has not changed. It was made holy-sanctified by God. Jesus showed the true purpose and intent of Sabbath keeping. A sunday observance does not rest on God's authority but rather on the reasoning and tradition of man if you look at the history or origin of !st day worshiping practice. Just re-iterating, the Colossians were being judged for how they observed the Sabbath, not whether they observed the Sabbath. The 7th day Sabbath was a weekly reminder of Israel's deliverance into freedom from slavery. The Sabbath today is an important reminder for Christians in our deliverance from spiritual slavery to sin and death. Jesus applied the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law to the Sabbath. Does it matter to God which day we decide to observe? The Bible says YES.
  16. It would be "man-made limits," as you term it, when one goes about telling others they have to follow something that God commanded only the Israelites to do. 17. See previous posts. But the simple answer is the Sabbath is not something for the Gentile. Are you Jewish? God bless, GE Not Jewish. Christian- Church of God
  18. 4. I disagree. From verses 16 and 17 to me clearly indicate that food, drink, festivals, and/or Sabbaths are not what make one a Christ-follower. Even the law pointed to the fact that what was really needed was heart change in Deut. 10:16. Further, outward displays of holiness means nothing if the heart is not circumcised – the Spirit circumcises our hearts! See Rom. 2:28-29 Deut. 10:16 16 Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. Rom. 2:28-29 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. Following Chris is not about what we eat or what festivals we partake in. It’s about heart change. Mark 20:17-20 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, “Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” 20 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” Also, it seemed good to the Apostles (in Acts 15:22-29) as they were led by the Holy Spirit to lay on the Gentiles no more burdens than necessary: to abstain from things offered to idols, from drinking blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. Notice there is no mention of Sabbaths, festivals, or new moons. I wonder why that is? Would the Holy Spirit change this direction? If so where is the passage that says the Holy Spirit said to follow the Sabbaths, festivals, and new moons for Believers? Acts 15:22-29 The Jerusalem Decree 22 Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. 23 They wrote this letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings. 24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law” —to whom we gave no such commandment— 25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. The Colossian heretics were condemning the Colossians for the manner in which the Colossians were observing the Sabbath and holy days. The ascetics were attemting to submit the Colossians to their ascetic lifestyle which included the following decrees " Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch " Colossians 2:21. In other words, the ascetics were condemning the Christians for eating and drinking and celebrating on the holy days and the Sabbath. This alone confirms the early Christians (gentiles) were observing the festivals. The reason the Sabbath was not in contention compared to the Jewish rite of circumcision is because there was no conflict with keeping God's festivals. The animal sacrifices and other ceremonial laws were replaced by the redemptive work of Jesus and our participation in God's annual holy days reminds us that eternal life is possible only through Him.
  19. 3. I agree that those who were judging the Colossians had no right to judge them due to food, drink, festivals, or Sabbaths. I also don’t think the Gentiles had to observe the holydays that were observed by Jews in order to be Christ-followers. I think too that we should differentiate between moral and ceremonial laws. Moral laws continued as Christ did not do away with them. Ceremonial laws (i.e. circumcision, festivals, Sabbaths, etc.) were for the Jews and were not to be applied to Gentiles. (See Acts 15:22-29 in the next post) Examples of Ceremonial laws: While as Believers we can we are called to take a day of rest (which I believe can be any day of the week or weekend) we’re called to focus on God EVERYDAY of the week. Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; you shall do no work therein: it is the SABBATH of the LORD in all your dwellings. We are no longer bound to the Passover which was a Jewish tradition – Christ is now our Passover and we celebrate the Lord’s Supper (Communion) instead to celebrate our risen Savior. Leviticus 23:4-5 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S Passover. We as Believers do not have to celebrate the feast of unleavened bread for example. Leviticus 23:6-8 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days you must eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day you shall have an holy convocation: you shall do no servile work therein. 8 But you shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: you shall do no servile work therein. Your thoughts? God bless, GE Does it matter which day of the week we celebrate as the day of rest? Is the first day ok or the fifth day? God says no throughout the Bible. He commands us to observe the seventh day of the week. And that seventh day has not been lost in history. The Sabbath is called a " perpetual covenant " between God and mankind. The Sabbath was made for you and me. The festival laws were given to Israel but were they for Israel only? Prophecies of the future like in Zechariah and Revelation show that all nations will observe the feast days that we now say are abolished. God's holy days like Passover and ULB are more meaningful to the NT church that they were to Israel. Paul says they are a shadow of things to come-connected with the events of God's redemptive work and God's overall plan for all mankind for the future.
  20. If you are claiming that you keep the Sabbath, you are going to have to explain exactly how you keep it. Well by not working -receiving pay. By resting from your usual 6 day weekly routine-stop and enjoy the day. Assemble with others if possible-fellowship. Enrich your spiritual understanding by focusing on God and not yourself. Do good. But it's suppose to be a refreshing and gratifying time and should not be restricted by man made limits
  21. 1. A good understanding of the difference between the Law of Moses and the 10 Commandments can be found here: http://www.preparingforeternity.com/mosevs10.htm 2. Here’s some examples of moral laws I believe are still in effect today… I’m sure there are others. We are not to look upon the nakedness (or have relations with) any of our relatives. Incest is an abominable sin. See Lev. 18:6-18 6 ‘None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the Lord. 7 The nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 8 The nakedness of your father’s wife you shall not uncover; it is your father’s nakedness. 9 The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you shall not uncover. 10 The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for theirs is your own nakedness. 11 The nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, begotten by your father—she is your sister—you shall not uncover her nakedness. 12 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is near of kin to your father. 13 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is near of kin to your mother. 14 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. 15 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law—she is your son’s wife—you shall not uncover her nakedness. 16 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. 17 You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, nor shall you take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness. They are near of kin to her. It is wickedness. 18 Nor shall you take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other is alive. Homosexuality is an abominable sin. See Le v. 18:22 22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Bestiality is an abominable sin. See Lev. 18:23 23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion. Do not be involved with witchcraft and demons. See Lev. 19:31 31 ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God. What do you think? Are these moral laws still in place today for Beleivers outside the 10 commandments? God bless, GE Sexual immorality in general falls under the 7th Commandment. In its spiritual intent any sexual relations like masturbation, fornication, or homosexuality outside of marriage would be forbidden. I am undergoing renovations and have not been able to respond quickly to any posts related to me-sorry.
  22. What do you think Jesus meant when he said: Mark 2:27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Jesus healed (considered work) many times on the Sabbath... Did Jesus break the Sabbath? Here's one instance: Luke 13:10-17 A Woman with a Disabling Spirit 10 Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.” 13 And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God. 14 But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, “There are six days in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.” 15 Then the Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it? 16 And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” 17 As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him. See also: John 5:5-14 Jesus reformed the Sabbath to its rightful place as designed in creation where the Sabbath is made for all mankind and not just for a select group. Jesus was a Sabbath keeper. He set the example as to how we should keep it by doing good and not be burdened down by legalistic restrictions as mandated by Rabbinic halakhah. The freedom Jesus showed we could have was from the harsh rules inflicted by over regulating by man's rules. But the freedom did not include abolishing the observance of the Sabbath from its original design. What does it mean when Jesus says " Think not that I am come to destroy the Law..." If He told you not to think something, would you believe Him? Or should we believe something were true when Jesus told you it was not?
  23. Your wording is interesting in that you ask, "Where in plain language" does it say "we don't have to honor the seventh day anymore?" You didn't ask where this was taught? In the book of Hebrews, we are taught that the seventh day Sabbath was symbolic of a greater rest we have entered into when we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and laid down our sinful burdens. This is really an entirely differen't topic than what is being discussed here. In addition to that, the 10 commandments are not the only moral laws given to us by God through his servant Moses. For instance, we know witchcraft is a sin because we are told not to suffer a witch to live in the law of Moses, but it isn't part of the 10 Commandments. BTW, I am not suggesting we kill all witches. I am just saying witchcraft is a sin, but not part of the 10 commandments. The subject title included the Law which equates with the ten commandments. Hebrews is not talking about the seventh day weekly Sabbath or rest. Witchcraft is a violation of the first commandment " You shall have no other gods before me " Ex 20 God personally condemns witchcraft in Ex 22 and Deut 18. I will have to agree with BUtero the Law is significantly more than just the 10 Commandments. Further, regarding the Sabbath... What do you think of this passage in Col 2? Particularly verses 16 and 17? Col 2:11-23 Not Legalism but Christ 11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 8 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. 20 Therefore,if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. God bless, GE Since sin is the transgression of the Law all unrighteousness would violate the 10 Commandments. What moral laws would you consider to be outside of the 10 Commandments? In Col 2- Paul's main point is that the Colossian deceivers had no authority to judge or determine how theColossians were to observe God's holydays. From vs 16-17 we see that Paul is countering a local heresy-he is actually confirming the value of God's holydays to Christians and explains that they foreshadow " things to come " He's talking about the future. Succumbing to the heretics is what Paul is condemning, not the observance of Sabbaths and God's feast days.
