Hello, everyone. I am a 49 year old woman who is struggling with scrupulosity/ocd. My problem is with tv shows. I mostly refuse to watch any shows or movies that take the Lord's name in vain, i.e. JC or GD. However, I am obsessing with the fact that nearly all tv shows use the phrase "Oh My God" at least once or twice and some regularly. In order to avoid hearing this I would have to basically give up tv altogether, and tv is something my husband and I enjoy watching together. We like sci fi shows like "Under the Dome," "Defiance," and we also like "Survivor" and some sitcoms. This issue goes around and around in my head almost every waking moment. "Am I dishonoring God by watching these shows? Even though I don't let them convince me to talk the same way? But this is taking the Lord's name in vain and that is one of the 10 commandments. Isn't this worse than some other sins I commit?" On and on it goes. I'm trying to find a Christian counselor to help me with this and I need to find a new pyschiatrist to review my meds. Does anyone have any advice?
